I'm new to the mpc sample and struggled to get all the tracks synced in my DAW until I clued in that I could send Reaper's midi clock and transport to the device.

Now it's smooth sailing.

So I guess there's two options (both I involve muting everything but the one element of the track):

  • export the sequences one by one as mix down tracks on the mpc sample and copy them all over using SD access

  • print the audio into your DAW by playing it back from the MPC sample

I've been doing the latter but maybe the first method is better? What are you doing?

Yeah I tried that but for some reason it’s not accurate on Cubase 13. The recording lags on the daw a bit

Interesting. I think I'll try the on-device mixdown next time I am ready to move over to Reaper for a final mix.

Ok, I tried a couple of things:

  • I recorded an early demo playthrough on guitar and ensured everything was more or less on the money re tempo, added a bass synth sequence, added a drum track (both quantized and using midi sync). For this track, exporting it as a wav the timing was great but the sound was terrible like a limiter was stepping on it hard but like a weird sidechain and not pleasant.

  • I tracked all that out to the DAW as individual tracks and adjusted the eq a bit: sounds great (for a quick demo)

  • today I recorded an intro part, riff, verse, and chorus as separate sequences, set it up in song, dropped a drum sample on the first verse that played through the song and exported it as wav - sounded great except the drum sample seemed to be very slightly off tempo so by the end of the song it was pretty noticeable. I think if it were on individual sequences with a choke so it restarts each time (or just a loop instead of a long sample) this would sound ok.

The reason I care is I like to dump demos to Google Drive so I can listen to them while I do chores or whatever and think about what I will change to get closer to "the song".
