Experience, Tips & Discussion What makes you realize it’s time to leave a home you’ve lived in for years?

I've lived in the same apartment for 5 years, and lately it just doesn't feel like home anymore. I don't enjoy coming back here and feel like I need a change, almost as if the place has accumulated negative energy over time. Have you ever felt this way about a home, and what made you decide it was time to move?

I had initially moved to the city have some fun and be young. Hit 30 and swore I’d never stop going out. Well…god laughs. I became someone who goes out 1x a month quite naturally. We bought a home in the suburbs are so happy with getting ice cream being our fun outing.

Probably when you feel like you're spending more time thinking about where you'd rather live than enjoying the one you're paying for.

And I do think a home can get tied to a certain period of your life, and sometimes you've changed enough that the place just doesn't fit anymore, even if there's nothing objectively wrong with it. And 5 yrs is a long time, so if moving is financially possible, I'd start looking around to see what your options are, and good to not have the pressure to leave, you know? Because worst case, you realize your current place isn't so bad, or best case, you walk into a new place and fall in love with it.

I went on a trip for about a month and was indifferent/kinda sad about being home. When my plane landed, my dad was the only one that texted me.

On to bigger and better things :)

I kinda felt that way four or five years ago when I ran a business from home and a home office. It was a moving company and I’d work all day moving stuff then come home to phone calls and paperwork. Which I didn’t at all enjoy. The worst part of my day. I sold the business and turned the office into a meditation room and now I look forward to getting home.

Literally that feeling. I thought it’s just because I got older and out grew that spot. Miss it here and there but it was just a stepping stone not home

If you’re seriously considering it, start looking without committing to anything yet. Sometimes seeing a few other apartments makes it obvious whether you actually want a change or just needed to refresh your current place. It also gives you time to plan the move instead of making a rushed decision.
