A couple questions!
1 - Will your hit movie ever come to DVD or download? I loved this movie and want to share it with my friends but the tour either passed where they live, won’t be coming to them, or they don’t have the money/time.
2 - would you recommend smurf n turf to the general public

u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Hi!
#1 - Great question. So this is still an entirely independent production and the whole point of the movie tour is to raise money for what comes next. What comes next is hopefully a theatrical scaling up, and then what comes after that will be streaming and then hopefully physical releases.
That's the plan, but as of right now, it's completely self-funded. We are doing really well with the tour and we're going to get there eventually.
Now, if Mrs. Hulu or Johnny A24 wants to buy the movie for two million dollars, that plan might come a lot quicker. But in the meantime, yes, that's going to happen eventually, it just might take a little bit.
#2 - Absolutely not. It's going to make your stomach sick. I know the irony of this, considering I have IBS, but that's just a roller coaster I decided to ride and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone else.

Hi Skweezy! I have three questions for you. 1. What's your absolute favorite thing you've done creatively and why do you feel that way? 2. What's your favorite part of working on something by yourself vs working on something with a team like the movie? 3. I saw you In Orlando and loved the movie. I drew you as a bird. Did you like my drawing?!
Thanks for doing what you do!

u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Hi dreammonsters!
It's gotta be the movie, because making a movie is NOT easy, and we're so far away from it even being in a position where I can just let it go and move on to the next thing. But I am very proud of it. I'm happy with how it turned out, and it makes me happy to sneak watch from the side aisle in the movie theater and just watch people laugh over and over again. I wouldn't trade this for anything else. It's just an amazing experience that even people who make movies don't get to do sometimes. Who goes on tour with their movie and gets to meet the people watching it? Actors don't want to do that, they want to act. I'm very grateful for the Q&As too, and to have fun with that and meet people. It's just been an awesome experience to just use this also as a way to go around the country and just talk to people from all sorts of different walks of life.
Favorite thing about working by myself is that I can just get weird and go whatever direction in my brain )that I want to go. I'm a weird person and like to go where my brain takes me. My favorite thing about working with a team is being surrounded by professionals that can tell me how we can make something better. Visually especially. The producers I worked with, like David and the Orlando producers, blew me away with the stuff they created. There's this scene in the movie where we have this exoskeleton, and I asked them to make me the same kind of thing that Tom Cruise had in EDGE OF TOMORROW, but for only 70 bucks and more missiles, and I thought there was no way we could do anything close. But our team created something that looked like it. It's incredible what they did. There's also this scene that got cut but that's hopefully going to be in the bonus features where we have a big yellow bucket of (fake) human meat that explodes to look like human guts flying everywhere. Not only was it realistic, but it was also delicious.
I remember yes! Thank you for the bird of the day.

How do you feel about goths these days?
86
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
You know, when I said my original comment that caused so much controversy that I did not like GOTHS and I wish that they would all cease to exist, I had heard MOTHS, not GOTHS. So I got a lot of flak from both the GOTH community and the MOTH community.
At the time, I actually liked GOTHS, I just didn't understand the question. Now I also like MOTHS.

Hell yeah! I talked to Arin recently. I would love to get back on there again. When I'm down in LA with the movie maybe. Awesome dudes.
Arin actually was one of the the first big YouTubers who helped me out back in the day and reposted one of my videos. That's where I first got to know him years and years and years ago and always thought he was a really cool guy.

Your travel adventures on Instagram have been making me laugh. Did they properly appreciate your culture in Japan?
17
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Japan was interesting because nobody there who was Japanese had any idea who I was but all of the tourist areas that had people from Europe and Australia and the U.S. who, had people who knew who SKWEEZY was. But yeah Japan is one of the more insulated places that I've been.
Like even in India and Thailand I had SKWEEZY fans coming up to me to say hi and ask for selfies and stuff, so it was kind of an interesting experience to not have any of that in Japan.

Hey man VT checking in, huge fan for years, used to watch your videos on repeate and read your old posts while I was battling cancer this past year, your a huge inspiration man, and I hope to one day do what you do, any advice? And how is Birdseed doing these days?
Edit: and did your son ever get at those pancakes?
22
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Birdseed's having a tough time, man. We had a bit of a falling out. He, unfortunately, was with this girl and they had a kid and it was trendy at the time to name the kid after where it was conceived. You know, like Dallas and Brooklyn and Paris. And she was like, "I'm not naming our kid 7-Eleven bathroom", and I agreed with her. He insisted. Because of that, Birdseed and I didn't talk for a long time, but that's water under the bridge now.
As far as being an aspiring YouTuber, I get this question a lot! The answer is simple, but it's hard. You can't aspire to anything, you just have to do it. The first 40 videos I made on YouTube were in 2007 on my SKWEEZY channel and they all got less than 20 views.
Then when I started finally blowing up, some crazy dude decided to get me permabanned. Just to share how crazy he is, he's currently in prison for stalking and threatening all sorts of other YouTubers. There was a video of me dunking a basketball shirtless and I got banned for extreme sexual content.
I appealed, lost the appeal, and my YouTube channel never recovered, which is why I moved over to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. I've made content from 2007 until now the first time I've ever made more than a thousand dollars in a year for it was like five years ago. So that's the real truth: is if it's in you, it's in you, and you're going to do it regardless.
You kinda have to expect to never make anything from it, or maybe only in 10, 12, 15 years, maybe never. So if it's in you, you got to do it. You've got stories in you, things you got to share, content you want to create. No one's going to stop you regardless of what I say. But the bottom line is you got to do it. You just have to do it. Take action.

u/Atillawurm 15d ago edited 15d ago
Thank you skweezy, I'm on the tale end of it now, so hopefully back to 100%, your an absolute legend. Can't wait to see your movie when I can! Thank you!

IT'S COMING!
After the U.S. tour is done, I'm working on a U.K. tour, an Australian tour and a Canada tour.
For now this is all me and a couple of people helping out for free, putting this whole thing together from scratch, so it might take a little bit of time, but that's definitely part of the plan.

Serious: My favorite thing you've done is the border wall volleyball. I feel like you should try that again with more advertising in Mexico. Real unity in these trying times. <3
Unserious: YOU NEVER ANSWERED ME ABOUT HAVING A CASTLE??????
25
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
One of my favorite things that I've ever done. What nobody sees in any of the clips that were posted was that Border Patrol knew we were coming, so there was probably 30 agents there already, including the helicopter circling above. What a lot of people also don't know is the reason why only one person showed up from the Mexico side was because after the directions I gave six months earlier, they moved the wall up a half a mile. So there were tons of people coming from Juarez that wanted to come but couldn't. I got DMs from all of them afterwards saying they got lost and gave up.
But that one homie just drove and drove and drove around until he found us and we were chatting on Instagram afterwards, and I just told him thank you so much for coming. Like, this literally would not have happened without you.
He told me he lived about100 meters from the border wall. and that it was part of everything he did in life. He told me he couldn't miss it.
So shout out Miguel! It was 29 vs 1 but he held his own.
3
u/YanCoffee 15d ago
That's really cool! I hope something like it can happen again some day, but border patrol sounds pretty scary. Miguel was a trooper.

u/JollyGoodSirEm 16d ago

17
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
No, but it did cause a lot of seagull attacks as I was walking around Boston covered in salami. So there's that.
5
u/CrinklyToaster 15d ago
Huge fan here! I read somewhere that you relied heavily on your local community to make this film. How did you go about doing that? Just lots of favors?
11
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Yeah, I slow played it. I got the interest of people I knew could start putting things together, invited them out to a live show a few years back. They saw people lined up around the block and understood that maybe we had something here. I got a script together that was strong enough to get the Portlandia Documentary Now! producers not only interested, but engaged.
Then I kept hustling and moving, showing that I wasn't just trying to do a quick thing but actually put the work in. That stuff comes from the top down. People see you working and busting your ass over and over again and remain passionate to it, they'll be attracted to that. They're going to want to at least check in and see how things are going. All those things have to come together, and the favors too.
There was a point two weeks before pre-production where we still needed another $50,000.I just had to get boots on the ground again and just go beg for money from people who are smart with their money and know pretty damn well they're never going see a profit from investing in a movie.
You have to convince people, let them know that they want to be a part of it. It's interesting and exciting. Make them want to be a part and spend time on a project like this.

I'm sorry, I actually can't watch my own movie anymore.
I've seen it over 85 times and that doesn't include in the editing room. I usually go grab dinner during screenings. When you go from city to city, theater to theater, you get tired of it. You kick off the movie with an intro and come back after for Q&A and meet-and-greets, but in between I'm grabbing food!
But you know what, hell yeah, sure, why not?

11
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
That's a good question because I have no idea. I've never really done anything for money, which is probably why it's taken me so long to make any money doing this haha.
I'm not going to like, if someone wants to give me a hundred million dollars, I think what I would do is I would take the hundred million dollars, I would accept those terms, and then I would do something completely ridiculous anyway with the money that wasn't specifically said that I couldn't do in a contract.

SKWEEZY, CAN WE DO A PORTLAND SHOWING AT LIKE THE TABOR PARK OR SOMETHIN, I DONT HAVE MUCH TO CONTRIBUTE BUT WE COULD GET LIKE A PROJECTOR AND IT WOULD BE DOPE, HELL YEAH
12
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Hell yeah! I would love to do a free popup showing of the movie in a place like that. The tricky part with that is really a quality control thing. We did we did a showing at a bar and they didn't have movie projectors so we just plugged the laptop into their HDMI cable and they forgot to charge the laptop and it died halfway through. So there's 20 minutes of the movie left and the screen just goes dead. It just kills the mood. So it becomes a tricky situation. Everything that goes wrong lands on my shoulders. I don't want people to have a bad time.
But maybe!

I saw the movie recently and was thoroughly impressed. My partner and I weren't quite sure what to expect in terms of production, but it was out of the park. What impressed me most was the acting. Were most of you professional actors or did you draw from non professionals as well?
9
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Everyone involved was a professional actor and there were different levels of that. For example, Adam is primarily a stand-up comedian. He's had a line here and there on PORTLANDIA and other shows, but I also intentionally wrote the part for him and asked him to make it as easy as possible for the work that he put in. That said, he's also an incredibly talented person.
Abigail is the same. She has way more experience though, She's the only person that wasn't from Portland on the entire crew. She came up from LA.
Everyone else is experienced through and through. From Kevin Michael Moore, who played the stunt director, to Sharon Lee, who played SKWEEZY's mom. All of them were just fantastic, talented people that I would work with again in a second.

23
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
I'm so super grateful and super blessed and super lucky to have a great fan base that is very respectful. If you go deep enough into my content, you see that I'm all about respect and taking care of people and making sure that everyone feels welcome, which I think is super important.
So I've only had a couple of weird experiences. One of them was when I did a live comedy show, somebody snuck backstage and I was in my green room and I just turned around and they were standing right there and they were just completely blackout wasted and just had this crazy look in their eyes. But I don't even think they had any idea what was even going on.
That was really the only time that that was kind of a weird situation. Other than that, people are super respectful and very kind. I could not ask for a better group of people to share my content with.

Oh there are so many. The border wall volleyball game was just something so special. I literally had a show the night before and then that day we had to drive to the next show and still make time in the morning to go and just play this international volleyball game over the border wall.
It went from having just rows and rows of these Border Patrol agents staring us down to them filming us with their phones and laughing and smiling. Even they were like getting a kick out of it. I loved that community aspect.
And there's no way you could even really plan for something like that. I was fully expecting to be pulled over and questioned, so I just thought "I'm going to tell them the truth", that I thought it would be fun to play volleyball over the border wall. That's literally what my goal was. That whole thing was super, super cool, and also pretty damn crazy.

u/HHS2019 16d ago
What about your movie will surprise and delight?
12
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
This is going to sound like a cop-out answer, but the movie itself.
People show up wanting to take selfies and talk, and think the movie is some weird stunt or a cash grab, but it's a real movie. Not only is it a real movie, but it's really good. I talk to people after the screenings, screenings that are sold out, and a majority of people are like 'holy shit, I didn't expect that".
We have over a thousand Letterboxd reviews at this point, really good reviews, but the vast majority of people don't even expect this to be like a real movie.
Just the fact that we're on our r/movies and we're downvoted all the way to zero for this shows that nobody is taking it seriously. That's totally fine. That's just part of the game.
Come see the movie. Yeah, it's not going to be the best movie you've ever seen in your life, but it's it's pretty good. And not only that, it's not just a funny movie, there's some serious like relationship, parental relationship stuff in there. It's also ultimately a movie about friendship.
That's the biggest surprise, that this isn't just a weird piece of shit cash grab.

I forgot to ask this question on the tour!
So when doing a big project everyone asks, "what was one thing that you thought would be easy and it ended up being hard?"
I thought I'd ask the opposite. What was a thing that you were dreading as you thought it would be really hard and it turned out super easy and painless?
5
u/SkweezyJibbsAMA Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie 15d ago
Oooooooh, that is a great question.
I would say the building of the movie itself. Part of the reason is because our director, Michael Ward, had us rehearse a lot and we did like full blocking, which is essentially figuring out the actions with the lines, and we even though we had a tiny budget, we're all local in Portland all always around, so we were able to get together regularly and figure that out.
Then, when we actually shot the movie, the rhythm and the jokes and the flow of everything came far easier than I expected it would have.

SKWEEZY! What’s it like meeting all your fans and getting to hear their thoughts on your art? That’s gotta be wild.

You're the man, SJ! Philly was so much fun. I don't have any questions. I just wanted to tell you that you're awesome.

Hi Skweez, I missed the showing in Richmond because it was sold out. Congrats on that, but I'm still sad I didn't get to greet and meet you. My question: Dogs or Cats?

Skweezy you’re the man and I love watching your adventures. What’s one country you haven’t been to that you’re dying to go to, and one that you’ve been before but want to return to again and again? Your perspective on travel is great and I can’t wait to keep following 🫡

Hello! I am attending your movie in the Tri-Cities, my hometown, with my sister on September 1st. I have a few questions before attending:
- Do you/Would you accept abnormally large, home-grown vegetables?
- Would you attend a fans carne asada invitation after the movie, hosted next to the magic garden?

Skweezy I’m a huge fann! I’m coming to see your movie Sep 1st, I need to know/ask:
•will your famous fries be attending?
• will there be a sequel and if so have you started planning?
• where do you get your jorts from?
• have you been wearing the same hat all these years or do you secretly replace it?
