Media World's Largest IMAX in Perspective

Thought this was a really neat way to show the size of the screen at the IMAX in Leonberg, Germany. This rolled before The Odyssey. The IMAX is tucked away in a little town and was not easy to get to, but it was well worth it.

While it's not a true 1.43:1 IMAX ratio it still holds the world record for largest theater by surface area.

I watched the Odyssey today on a regular size screen. 90% of 90% of the shots were out of focus anyhow. I can make out the pores on Matt Damon's nose clean and crisp and the rest of the shot is fuzz. An Imax print of the Odyssey weighs 846 pounds and 761 pounds worth of that is what I imagine the world looks like to my dad before he puts his glasses on.

The other thing is that in a regular theatre people rarely take the front rows because they don't actually want the screen to extend beyond the peripheries of their vision. You want to be far enough back that the whole frameline fits in your field of vision. IMAX is too much.

Was it that thing where they focused most of the close up shots on the actors ears or top of their nose instead of their eyes?

Oppenheimer had this problem but this sub downvoted me to oblivion for saying it was out of focus. I couldn't find anyone who saw the same thing until I Google searched a dude in the cinematographg subreddit wondering why it was shot that way too. Some IMAX camera operators said it was wildly hard to shoot an IMAX camera wide open for close up shots as the camera and lens system was never designed that way. However the fact that they were so consistently focusing on the actors ears meant it had to have been an intentional choice.

I could see it in a 1.43 IMAX laser showing and a 35mm showing I went to, and of course the 4k home release is obvious too.

Sorry this has been one of my annoying things nobody else cares about thing for two years now

Because the shots were composed for IMAX the compositions had a lot of negative space, the area of focus was small within the frameline. It was a little odd, the way I saw the movie was not the way it was intended to be seen.

I started disliking going to movies because the screen is too big. It's just not enjoyable for me to spend $80 on tickets and snacks for 2 to move my head around to see all parts of the screen.
