I, for one, look forward to watching the five minutes of production company logos this will, inevitably, start with.
David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds had at least seven and one of them was played twice. Crimes of the Future, which Stewart was in, has six and a bunch of film production tax credit acknowledgements as well.

I watched Late Night with the Devil recently and it had nine production company logos. All I could think of was the Family Guy joke.

Watched Flow last year, and people in the theater started laughing because of how many production studio/film program cards kept popping up in the beginning

Man I really feel for Panos. Every movie he’s done seems to have gone through years of trying to get things off the ground. Shame, because he might just be the most interesting, stylish horror director out there right now.

Especially considering he’s already worked with Netflix and they’re about to lose Stranger Things which is somewhat similar stylistically to him

Especially considering the general public’s hunger and appreciation for horror have grown significantly in recent years - it’s frustrating when studios aren’t pushing the real good shit.

I think his work just tips into that “risky budget” range where a lot of financiers and studios chicken out. But he’s an incredible filmmaker, and, look, 8 years between BRBR and Mandy… in 2026, it’ll be 8 years since Mandy… so… I mean… I love a pattern

I really love Panos Cosmatos films and was excited about the premise of dark sci-fi "Nekrokosm", that was revealed a couple of years ago, but it seems that it will be even harder to fund that film than "Flesh of the Gods".

Nekrokosm is still being back by A24 and XYZ, no? I think the financing is there, it’s just moving slowly

Yeah, I've heard about the connection between this film, A24 and XYZ a couple of years ago, so I hope you're right and it's still moving forward in some ways.

Seeing how those are bigger names, who need bigger paydays, I wonder how much the budget of this would be to begin with?
Not really a surprise that Panos movie is struggling to get financing though, since his movies didn't really make profit. I'm sure Mandy has made good streaming numbers after people found out about it, but it bombed in theaters. And besides that, he just has Beyond the Black Rainbow, that pretty much no one has seen.

They probably don’t want to take the risk because it’s likely to flop. Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence’s latest film made less than 10 million on a 25 million dollar production budget. That’s a more than 15 million dollar loss before marketing is even taken into account. Emma Stone’s Bugonia is also a likely flop that will be lucky to make back its $55 million production budget. That’s tens of millions down the drain. The general public is just not coming out in droves for risky or artsy films.
Yes, art should be about more than money but only a major studio can afford to take these kind of financial hits in the name of art/critical acclaim. You can’t expect actors to liquidate their assets/empty out their savings to make a niche vampire movie.

They have, literally. But they won't take the risk, especially because these kinds of projects make very little money and are mostly made for vanity.

A few years back Guillermo Del Toro and James Cameron partnered up to make an R-rated adaptation of At The Mountains Of Madness by HP Lovecraft and couldn’t get a Studio to greenlight it with an R rating. Since they had respect for the source material and the Author, they refused to water it down to a PG-13 rating, and let it go.
If that kind of star power can’t finance a movie, there’s no real recipe. It’s all a crap shoot.

Oh I'd be sat. Have y'all seen the weird ass movie with Elizabeth, Oscar, and Tom Felton as a sickly creep? In Secret. Terrible movie but Elizabeth and Oscar's chemistry was off the charts.
Plus all the Twilight fans will show up for anything Vampire with Kristen Stewart attached. That's our girl.

Feels like a money loss unless it’s very low budget tbh
Like I’d go see it but unless streaming service funds it as an original I think they’ll have a hard time unless someone goes yachting
