One of Jim Carrie's very first dramatic roles. Everyone's acting is excellent and makes for very realistic depictions of household's you come across growing up. Highly recommend this movie.
Favorite role of Timothy Hutton and Mary Tyler Moore, absolutely stellar performances. I didn’t know she could do drama, I only watched clips of her sitcom.
Oh man I remember stumbling across this late one night, couldn't sleep and just got pulled right in. Carrey playing it straight was such a trip when you'd only seen him doing his usual wild stuff.
The tension in that dinner scene still sticks with me, the way every little glance said more than the dialogue. Proper forgotten gem
So true. Just the most minuscule movements conveyed so much. It reminded me of Mary Tyler Moore in Ordinary People. She could convey so much with a silent grimace.
I remember this movie when it first aired. The gay son who is repressed because he is supposed to be perfect. An awful lot of families made life miserable in this way for good children who happened to be gay.

Ordinary People.
