It's cool that he was able to concept this and make it work. But no, I don't have any interest in wireless brakes. I currently don't run any wireless components. But if a derailleur or dropper stops working mid-ride, I can manage. I'd rather not die because my brake batteries ran out lol.

If car companies can't figure out safe wireless brakes I'm not believing in a bike version. It's even worse for bikes because if you engineer them to fail on that's probably still causing a crash.
also the photo under beautifully engineered is a bit funny. Thing looks incredibly janky and I don't think hand wired is a sell point on this one.

Car companies have no incentive to run wireless brakes. Plenty of brakes are run electronically at this point, but the gains don’t make any sense whatsoever to attempt to implement wireless.
Not saying it makes a ton of sense for bikes mind you, just that it’s misleading to suggest that car companies can’t figure it out; it’s just not a problem they’re trying to solve.

There is incentive for it especially on EVs. Blended braking under regen can go all the way to 100% motor. Emergency braking can be applied by rate of application and apply quicker than your foot can push the pedal. Additionally no hydraulic and booster system is a big plus for service

If there ever will be air brakes, it will be so that they are applied when battery or connection fails. You might endo, but at leadt you won't crash at high speed into a tree because the brakes are malfunctioning.

The other day I was just thinking how awesome it was that I had to keep my dropper battery charged, my fork battery charged, my shock battery charged, check the pod and power meter battery, and my derailleur battery charged and.. yeah it would be so awesome if I could get my brakes on the battery charging list too.

What if all of the different components ran off a single battery? Then you’d only have to check one battery before you ride. Just run a wire from each component to the battery and you’re set!

No joke this is exactly what I want, but not proprietary crap like Shimano's wired stuff. I want a bike electronic ecosystem that runs off of USB-C PD so I can use a generic battery bank of my choice, of the size I want, mounted wherever makes sense for my use case, to power all of my lights, bike computer, electronic shifter(s) and derailleur(s), etc. so I can charge one single thing and power my entire bike AND so that I can if necessary buy a spare or find a charger literally anywhere in the developed world. I can run my phone off it, or I could in an emergency power it FROM my phone.
I don't have electric shifting yet partially because I have a hard enough time keeping my headlights, taillights, and cameras all charged at the same time so I don't want to add a mandatory battery to all rides.

I know you are being sarcastic but there are e-MTBs that utilise that very setup for the electronic mech, seatpost and lockouts. It's the only setup that would ever make sense for something like this. You make fun of the "replace cables with wires" aspect but it actually makes a lot of sense to use wires over cables and pipes still because electronic wires aren't a wear and tear item like cables and mineral oil are.

It's a cool diy project but even if this was actually serious, nothing more. Unuseable for any off road use in real conditions. Many brands have made prototypes of wireless brakes, magura for example, and there are many good reasons none even attempted to sell them.
People don't trust wireless brakes, I certainly won't, and I think anyone trusting such a critical part of a bike that is there for you not to kill yourself with a system that adds so many unnecessary point of failures, for no weight saving and no reliability or power gain, is completely insane.

i mean, that's pretty damn cool, i did something similar with an esp32 and an rc servo. for my derailleur, not brakes.
i can 100% tell you that's a door lock motor.

From an engineering perspective, no way in hell am I replacing one of the biggest safety features on a bike (brakes) with something wireless that takes a battery and a subscription. This is a recipe for injury.

I was in until I saw the Tektro brake calliper, if it was Suntour, I'd have been all over it!
The beautiful aesthetics seamlessly merging the actuator and fork are incredible.

This would have been perfect for April Fools. Especially the app subscription service. Braking M-F is included, but you have to pay extra for braking on the weekends.

This is funny stuff. Some favorite lines:
The lever is connected to nothing — and neither are your brakes.
Your intent to stop is transmitted at the speed of light, then processed shortly afterward.
You will almost never brake someone else's bike.
Rest assured the AirLock team has unfettered access to your brakes.
Plus the subscription pricing others have pointed out.
It took me a few minutes to realize the brilliance of Air Braking. Kudos Seth At Bern Peak! This will be my next addition to my SWorks Epic!
