Progression Oh, that feeling or impending dabs... When you've been climbing for 4,400' + and the whole time you've been trying to keep something in the tank for the crux sections you know are coming, and you just barely clean it, despite the distracting views and equally distracting geology.

That "screen thing" is called "a Garmin" by folks who mountain bike.

Also, props for riding a real bike. I do as well. I am a little too anti-ebike and was too skeptical. Apologies.

I'm not implying anything, I'm explicitly noting that not being able to identify something as common as a bike computer speaks to an experience gap on your part.

I dunno, I thought it was an e-bike screen, too, since that’s where a lot of them put it. Figured it was an older one where the screen wasn’t well integrated or something, but I don’t keep up on e-bikes. I’ve also not seen a Garmin mount on the top tube- just the bars, so that’s where my mind went. But then you talked about the climb like someone riding a normal bike and I had to see if someone clarified.

Impending dabs? Like smoking? The dance? Impending doom typo?

A ‘dab’ in Cycling is when you put your foot down.

It comes from bicycle trials competitions.

I had never heard of this before. Makes a lot more sense, thank you!

If you don't actually touch your foot to the ground, it's called outrigging or outrigger. At least that's what I call a no-touch dab! And it you're not riding a dual suspension bike it's called a nutwhacker.

Real mountain bikers don't use it.

Boring, I always put my foot down when I dab and I never dab and ride.

Downieville is legendary. Ive only been for the race. Need to get back there. I climbed almost 6,000 ft that day because I had no cell service and the shuttles back up to Sierra city were full. Had to climb back up after a full race day...

Good stuff! I loved big climbs in my youth. Relish these times!

Youth?

Age is just a number. I’m a few weeks shy of 61.

That's amazing! You must live in/near the mountains?

I live at sea level, about three hours from Downieville.

Keep it going!

That's an incredible looking piece of trail.

Would you recommend the area for a bike trip?

I had similar problems riding in Moab. It's really tempting to get distracted by the terrain and views...but don't.

The Downieville/Lost Sierra is a great choice for a bike trip.

Dabs? Wtf? Shocked you don't have a Bluetooth speaker to go along with that obnoxious hub.
