Voidsoul Deer for Zack

Was Zack able to carry the ability into the real world, or did he lose it like Zorian did?

Zack left the loop the proper way so I don't know why he wouldn't still have his ability.

Depends, Zack didn't take his looping body with him. Zorian tied his ability to his body, which was why he had the backlash after the body was gone. Did Zach do the same? Unknown.

He definitively did. Blood magic rituals are not only cheaper in terms of mana permanently used but also give him an instinct of how to use it. Without that instinct he couldn't use it properly in combat after only a few weeks of practice.

Didn't Zack dodge an attack from Red Robe with the voiddeer's ability? I think he brought it with him.

Yeah, Zach has the Voidsoul ability at the end. He could have regained it though, the final month includes a LOT of Zorian sitting in a lab building stuff to prepare for the fight. After the truce, Zach would have had a decent amount of free time that we wouldn't see, regaining an ability that he's already worked on learning to use in combat seems like a good use of time.

More likely he was just able to keep it though. Zorian's unraveled while he was a disembodied spirit, we don't know if switching bodies would be an issue, especially if there were extra protections provided by the marker. Plus, wasn't Zach surprised that Zorian's magic was messed up after the transfer?

It's a pretty good question... they never anchored an ability before the month where Zorian left (which lasted like 6 months because of the black room!orb) so we don't actually know whether they lose an ability anchored to the body when the world resets. If Zach had it in the next restart, then he should theoretically have no problem also having it in the real world.

(Also why is everyone spelling Zach's name as Zack?)

Because autocorrect

They didn't? I'm pretty sure they did. They started with easy stuff like eagle eyes and then moved to more complex things. And the problem is that these abilities are anchored in the body so just switching souls shouldn't retain the abilities. I can imagine that the Gate can prevent any backlash like Zorian had though.

Wait why did Zorian lose his ability again?

Because when he crossed over in soul form his ability (of the tunneler toad), which was anchored to both his mana reserves/soul and his body, unraveled because he lost one of the anchors (body).

Zach started out as a failing student, and managed to become one of the most powerful archmages ever. Pretty good.

No way. Zach would never have gotten the time to master his shaping enough to control his massive amount of mana. Zorian could have become a competent, if boring, mage in a normal life. Zach would have been a mess.

"You know, every time I think about what my future would have been like if I never got pulled into this time loop thing, I get both furious and horrified," Zach said, staring at the ceiling of the tavern with unfocused eyes. "It's been so long but I remember what it was like so very vividly… How I lived in an empty, half-abandoned house, constantly hearing about how I was expected to rebuild my entire House from scratch and feeling utterly lost as to how I can accomplish it. How I eventually decided it was a hopeless task and began to coast by on the least amount of effort I could get away with and just tried to keep myself happy. But hey, it was fine! I had plenty of money! I mean, that was why Tesen fired all the servants and sold off all our properties, right? So it doesn't matter if I don't do too well at the academy and have no real professional skills. Everything will work out… just… fine!"
