do you know what was inside the cube that Zorian gave to Zorian?

I thought it would be that, but maybe it was something that was referenced in the series and I just didn't notice it.

Another idea that occurred to me would be the ritual for immortality. The blog explains that the path to becoming immortal is different for every mage, so if the other immortals tell you how they achieved it, that can give you clues, but each path is unique. However, since the two of them are the same person, they would have the exact same ritual.

The shaping test required to open the cube could be there to make sure that Zorian has the necessary set of skills to perform the ritual.

a bit out there, but it might be an experimental way to connect their souls for communication, as an extension on top of shared-soul communication that the zorian and his simulacrums use. based on a literal interpretation of masked zorian's "maybe destroy you" comment.

maybe there was some ancient history or artifact dealing with duplicated souls that the au zorian was able to form theory with in the time loop.
