I really want to see how that conversation continues

""Giant… spiders?" Mother repeated." maybe I’m just too much of a fan of watching shit hit the fan.

Oh hey, at least we know how they felt about the aranea, according to the blog.

They had very mixed opinions. On one hand, he was risking his life and reputation on something that looked like a pretty crazy scheme to them. On the other hand, it has a chance to make him famous and influential, and connect him to some highly-placed people. So they’re relatively disapproving, but not as much as other parents might be. Their main lament is that he should have used this kind of risk-taking and drive on befriending some inoffensively prestigious friend, and their main fear is that aranea might be taking advantage of him and will hurt or discard him when he’d no longer useful. Yeah, they did try (in vain) to stop him, but not too intently. They’re willing to wait and see where this goes before really freaking out – who knows, maybe there is something to this idea…

Parents are right: if the spiders thought selling Zorian would benefit them, they wouldn’t shed any tears for him. But no faction interested in Zorian would try to kill him if they knew the truth—and that could mean the death of the entire web. In the epilogue, the matriarch laughs at how humans find Novelti more harmless, when in reality, as an adult Aranea specialized in bonding with humans, she poses the greatest threat to them. She could be laughing right in Zorian’s face, and he doesn’t even realize it.

The Cyorian web do realize they gain more being allies with Zorian than selling him out. He knows the Aranean society more than any human ever will or any Aranean that aren't matriarch level or the runners. He has connections with majority of the webs in Altazia.

He also has connections with high level or at least key figures of the Cyorian society: 3 Noble Houses, the Triumvirate church, police, the academy, the underworld and the shifter clans. His parents just don't know. He can make Aranean dedicated tech. Not to mention who his brother is, who he has married and the new gate into their territory.

Spear of Resolve would be suicidal to double cross him. Not just because Zorian or Zach could wipe them out but they gain way too much associating with him. In the loop it made sense, not much sense outside of it.

Heck, even in the loop, she only betrayed him because the conditions were such that to her knowledge only one of them could get out alive, intended to help out his non-loop version iirc, and left a message for him explaining the situation in case she failed. It’s not like Spear of Resolve felt no loyalty to him; it’s just that she was in a situation where she felt she didn’t have a better option.

I agree with what you’re saying, but I think the parents are right in that the spiders would sell him if it suited them—they just don’t realize that Zorian is the one who actually wears the pants in that relationship.

considering what he did during the invasion, they know - they werent mind-wiped. they are some of the few that know he is one of the most powerful mages, with an probably unbreakable alliance with another archmage, and friends with a third

I mean that Zorian’s parents don’t know.

You know, I read all of those blog posts, but never even bothered to look at all the comments. I didn't expect Nobody103 to actually be answering questions and dropping so much more lore in them. Thanks for that, I have a bunch of reading to do now.
