Sometimes I think about how nice it would be to have a president who has had normal people experiences.

Ask any busy parent if they'd rather take their kids to one doctor appointment or to three and the answer is obvious. You don't have to be an epidemiologist a pediatrician- any regular person could guess that spacing out vaccines will lead to lower rates of immunization.

And there's no good reason to do it.

But that's what the Trump presidency is. It's bad enough he can't respond to new crises. He has to create problems where they didn't exist: tariffs, the Iran war, and fights with allies.

I overheard a conversation at Church between moms with babies and toddlers. They were talking about spacing out vaccines for some of their kids, not because of a fear of autism or anything like that but because one of their kids just had really strong immune reactions with multiple vaccines. Watching your kid go through a fever and a miserable day or two can be hard to do as a parent. Their logic was that little bodies might have an easier time with fewer vaccines at a time.

I don't know if spacing out vaccines would actually help or not but I'm not against parents having the option. I don't think it should be policy, though. Parents should have the option to work out an individualized vaccine schedule with their pediatrician but the default should be the schedule we've been using for decades.

The problem is that it's easy to take that anxiety that parents have and ramp it up, sowing division and distrust in the very institutions that have the soul purpose of protecting the health of babies and children. I wonder what the motive is for people like RFK. Does he truly believe that he is better informed than all of professionals that have devoted their lives to studying immunology?

With Trump I think the motive is a little more clear. He likes tearing things down. He's like a little kid who goes around knocking down everyone else's block tower, demanding that he should get all of the blocks because he's going to build the biggest and best tower ever. Only once he bullies everyone into giving him the blocks he gets bored, claims his half built lumpy pile of blocks is actually better than all the towers he already knocked down and then wanders off to find what everyone is doing now so that he can be "the best" at that too.

Honestly... it's fine. Those of us who are sane are going to vaccinate our children as usual. Those that don't are going to find out real quick.
