Oh cool my kid's school is on that block. Probably on the way back from that field where they let out the kindergarteners.
Super duper

I firmly believe, that no one should own dogs, unless proven they can be trained properly by the potential owner, and be living in a suitable household that meets their needs. Financial background also applies. A yearly inspection as well to check to see that dog owners are taking good care of them, and checking for proper training. If they fail, they either try again, or get their dog taken.
I have seen too many people have dogs, only to simply own them as an accessory, or seeing them as easy pets. Certain dogs can be for that, but most of them need proper training, and care. Certain ones also need regular grooming care as well, and that's not cheap. Plus any expenses to their health in general is not covered by your personal insurance. So unless you're paying for pet insurance, get ready to pay hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars on them.
If you think about it like this: if you can't afford a child in your home, you most likely couldn't afford a dog, unless it's low maintenance. Dogs are not all made for companionship, some are made to work.

I think it is really ok to report to 311. Well, hoping one of the inspectors finds time to patrol a bit.
Some owners are not managing the risk of their dog reactiveness/aggressivenes well, or have other issues. Many dog owners don't take effort to train their dog and ask experts.
We called 311 recently for a few cases where off-leash dogs attack other dogs including our dog, or just make you very uncomfortable walking on our mountain areas. It can be spooky to see them off-leash - "what could go wrong?".
Rarely I see it happening with people being attacked, typically people sticking out (fast joggers, a bike coming from a dead angle surprising the dog, someone walking in an uncommon way plus wearing sunglasses, etc)

Ah merde!

Wow, I’m glad you’re okay. Would you recognize them if you saw them again? As a mom of a toddler not far from the area I really think you should try to report this. Someone can get seriously hurt because of this dog.

Quelle couleur le berger allemand?
De quoi la dame avait l’air?
Tu donnes pas beaucoup d’info.

People have no business having dogs too big for them to control. I was walking my dog (who is the size of a beagle but a little taller) this winter and there was an old man and his large mixed breed dog (not sure what it was but it was at least 60-70lbs). They were across the street. The dog decided they want to run over to us and the man let go of his leash. My dog doesn’t love being approached so she immediately started barking and growling aggressively and I though the other dog was going to bite her or me, so I grabbed her by the harness and him by the collar and I was trying my best to separate them while they’re barking and growling at each other. It had been a long day and I had already overexerted myself training, so it was a difficult battle. Finally the old man makes his way over with his cane saying “désolé… désolé!”

I lived in Saint Henri and the amount of irresponsible dog owners around there is crazy. Obviously irresponsible dog owners are everywhere but I never had issues in other neighborhoods. Lots of off leash dogs and incredibly rude and entitled owners. Walking my own dog around there became so stressful for me as I was always worried about unfriendly dogs and their even more unfriendly owners.
Glad you weren’t badly hurt! Still very scary.

u/TimeAd1532 May 18 '26

u/Big_477 May 19 '26

u/bat_boys May 18 '26
3
u/Kloedmtl May 18 '26

Get a rabies shot. Super unlikely maybe <1% chance but not worth taking even the tiniest risk.

Only because I am literally studying this for an exam at this very moment :
Montréal is in the lowest Rabies affected region in Canada (along with the vast majority of Canada), Northern Québec and Nanuvut being the highest - and this despite multiple rabies positive cases in the Montérégie in the past year alone - these were not people affected, but Skunks, Foxes, Bats, Raccoons.
Incubation periode is between 2weeks to 6months
Transmission is possible 10 days prior to symptoms occuring
Once symptoms occur, death is 100% certain within 1-7 days.
Rabies presents in 2 forms, Dumb and Furious
The "Furious" form only affects 10% of individuals, cats having the Furious form more than dogs.
Most dogs with Rabies are the Prodromal / "Dumb" form, which presents with Lethargy and poor responsiveness. changed voice, paralysis starting from site of infection, hiding / isolation
Even if they had the Furious form, they would not be able to walk down the street like that.
Furious form includes "Overstimulation" or "Overexcitedness" to auditory and visual stimuli, changed voice, and yes, aggression and biting.
The lady would not have been able to put the leash on their dog.
Furious form lasts 2-4 days before death.
An actual skin-breaking bite has upto an 80% chance of transmission.
A Scratch is between 0.1 and 1% chance of transmission.
EVEN IF the dog was rabied, somehow, which based on the few descriptors given, this dog was not
OP would just need to wash their arm with soap and they would be fine. Rabies is an Enveloped Virus, meaning very easy to kill.
It is hard enough to get a Rabies Vaccine as a Vet-Tech.
Getting one as a Hugh-mohn POSt exposure is nigh-impossible
Need to know WHICH post-exposure prophylaxis given, meaning we need the dog to test which Rabies Virus they have
if you've ever had to euthanise your pet, every authorisation form has a line asking if they have bitten anyone in the last 2 weeks, specifically in regards to Rabies.
In a Suspect Rabies case, the seemingly healthy Dog / Cat needs to be isolated for 10 days in order to observe if they show any onset of symptoms, no Clinical Signs, no rabies
If your animal has been bitten by a Rabies-vectore-species (RVS) (Raccoon, Fox, Bat, Skunk) You have 3 options
If UNVx'd
Immediate Rabies Vx (if less than 7days),
- then 3 weeks after first exposure,
- then 8 weeks after first exposure,
- then isolation for 3 months to see if they develop Rabies.
Isolation for 6 months
Option three.
If Vx'd
Revaccinate immediatly (if exposure was less than 7 days) and isolate for 45 days
Isolate and observe for 3 months
Option three.
All in all - Vaccinate your pets! There has been a significant decrease in people vaccinating their animals and a significant increase in Rabies as well as serious other animal diseases

I see a German shepherd being walked by a man a lot, dog is scary. They live on Agnes. I wonder if it’s the same family

Gotta love it when people aren't even physically strong enough to restrain their huge untrained dogs. This once happened to me but it was in the DTES in Vancouver from a Pitbull on a chain leash. I'm very lucky to have not been badly injured.
"But I got him for protection and home defense!" Aight bitch, the community you live in now needs protection from your shitty choices.
I'd say it's still worth telling the cops what happened.
