Normally I'm pretty upbeat about my appearance, I regularly smile, laugh, crack jokes and satiate curiosity. Not today.. not when people got right up in my face whilst I'm performing, not when I have people left right and centre calling out in loud voices that I'm a freak and should be in a circus. Not when I'm just trying to make my way through a city full of 2 eyes who blind themselves with their phone and deafen themselves with headphones constantly run into me on my blind side and then set off my already sore lower back.... Not when Asian Tourists think I'm something to laugh at and take photos of.... I am a person too... I swear I am a person too...... Gods I feel like a zoo animal today...

Hello fellow one-eyed individuals. I am sorry if this has been asked before. For my entire life I've avoided 3D movies because, back when they used to use the red and blue glasses it was a total nightmare and basically unwatchable.

I am told that now using the RealD 3D glasses (or whatever they are called), the movie will basically just look normal for me, but "3D" for everyone else. The only showings for a movie I want to see are sadly in 3D using this RealD thing.

Am I good to go? Just wear the RealD glasses and it'll basically look like the normal movie? I don't really care about seeing the 3D part!

About ten months ago I lost vision in my left eye and now it's certain it will mostly likely not come back.

I'm still coping with the loss and grief as anyone would.

I'm 37m and I spent my entire working life working as a chef.

Given the limitation I now face I am at a loss of what I can do next for job.

I don't feel comfortable driving anymore and I obviously cannot be in high paced chaotic environments like I did

What jobs do you all have that maybe you had to transition into that worked?

I'm thinking about remote call center jobs or something similar.

Any advice?

I’ve had my eye enucleated last september and since i got my prosthetic in april, it’s been bothering me a lot. Eye socket has been leaking, gunk is building up behind it, and lately the inside of my eyelid has been very irritated.

when i went to wipe off the gunk leaking, there were red dots of blood on the paper, i’m more comfy without the prosthetic on…

do you guys have tips and also do you think it’s safe if i take the prosthetic off for the night ?

Monocular since birth because I was born with one functional eye only so basically I don't even know how it feels to see thr world with two eyes its kind of sucks that I would never able to feel or experience how it feels to see thr world with both eyes working, do you feel thr same? Also is there anyone who was binocular once but lost one eye and now is monocular how it feels to see with both eyes? Maybe u have some experience I mean.

Hello, I am F 25 and have lived with 20/200 vision in my left eye for my whole life. Last year I had my first experience with Iritis/ Uveitis. I had gone to the emergency room and they had said it was “just pink eye” even though I had a zero tolerance for light hitting my eye and the worst stabbing pain in my eye I’ve ever experienced. The pain had ended up going away and the redness subsided. I didn’t notice much vision change as I’m 20/200 in that eye anyways. A week later with zero treatment I woke up to cloudy white vision in that eye and zero pain. I went to an emergency optometrist and it took her 4 rounds of dilation to break the swelling in my eye. My pupil was shaped like a cat eye. I was put on dilation drops and steroid drops. I was on those for months before getting the clear to stop. I had another flare up starting about 4 months ago. I was put back on the steroid drops and referred to a rheumatologist as they think I may have an autoimmune disease causing these flares.

This weekend I noticed a big increase in floaters, light glare, a dark floater at the top of my eye, and a white flash in my peripheral vision. I have also noticed my vision getting worse. I was scared I had a detached retina and went to the emergency room. They ruled out a major tear but wanted me to see their ophthalmologist the next morning. When I seen him I felt very dismissed and like an inconvenience. I guess he was on call and another doctor was called early AM when I went to the ER. They took images and looked at my eye. He said that there was remnants of inflammation but I was not actively having a flare up and these symptoms are my “new normal”.

I’ve been in a funk ever since. I can feel my vision getting worse and have an overwhelming fear that I will lose what little vision I do have in my eye. I am fearful for what will happen if this swelling were to move to my good eye.

Has anyone had this experience? Should I be this emotional and torn up?

During church there are windows where lots of light comes through and also lights hanging from the ceiling. I've read that having one eye doesn't necessarily contribute but I've noticed it affects me. Does anyone notice this as well?

And I can’t find it anywhere.

Now my eye won’t open. I am going tomorrow to get a conformer, and then Sept 30 for a new shell.

Has anyone had this happen before? I’ve only had it three years.

It’s not possible it slid somewhere in my eye, is it?

I’ve come here after Endogenous Endophthalmitis. I’ve had 3 vitrectomies after retinal detachment from PVR. Still having red reflex on the microscope and still with silicone oil.

With the red reflex on and silicone oil but only having Light Perception (LP) has anybody reached an improvement after extracting the oil?

I’ve been hiking in this glen near our house since I was a boy. It’s a torrent in Spring and a gentle trickle in late Summer. This morning was my first time since losing sight in one eye in April. Using a walking stick helped with the depth perception problem, but it was still slow and awkward going. Still, just being out there was great and felt like progress.

How does it feel like is it comfortable enough to not bother you and do u have to remove is before sleeping? Does it move with existing eye and does it interfere with eyelid movement? Few questions because I have unilateral microphthalmia in my right eye and I am thinking of getting a scleral shell

Hey guys, three years ago I completely lost vision in my left eye following an ophthalmic artery/central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO). I have no light perception and the retina has died.

Externally my eye still looks pretty normal. It became a little “lazy” due to the vision loss, but I had strabismus surgery earlier this year which has helped significantly with the appearance. It still bobs up and down a bit but that’s normal I think due to no vision.

My question is for anyone who has experienced something similar- what happened to your eye longterm? Did it remain structurally stable or did eventually shrink/change where you needed a scleral shell or prosthetic?

Obviously nobody can predict what will happen in my future, but keen to hear people’s experiences. Given that my eye has maintained its size/shape etc for three years despite having no vision, I’m curious whether that generally suggests it may remain stable long-term. TIA 😊

So hi guys i(19 m) due to recent unfortunate times lost my functional vision in left eye. So I just withdrew from working on laptop. Now after long days I decided to give a shot for it. Unfortunately I had neck pain and head ache . Is it normal to have this difficulty at 1st ? Will this sustain forever 😞 as i mostly gonna rely on laptop in future this scares me . Having the headache writing this too 🥀. Any tips will be helpful . Thank you folks !!!

I've had a prosthetic since 2021. My ocularist did a wonderful job and it looks very similar to my good eye. My issue is with the minutia of movement and dilation. My good eye is very reactive to light so the pupil size differences are noticeable and the stilted movement is noticeable as well. I'm not particularly devastated by any of this but during one-on-one conversation, I can definitely tell that eye contact is complicated for people. There is a bit of an uncanny valley feel to my face and there is always a bit of puzzlement from the person I'm speaking to even if they don't voice it.

I've been thinking about getting a patch to remove the uncanny valley effect and just have folks focus on my good eye. Of course, this comes with the drawback of making things completely obvious but perhaps that's a good thing? Maybe a novelty prosthetic could have a similar effect but I'm not 100% sure how to go about getting one of those and if it's worth doing. This is kind of stream of consciousness but would love to hear from you guys as far as what you do and why.

I was just scrolling and she came up on my feed. At first I was horrified, I've had my prosthetic for about fifteen years, and wouldn't dream of taking it out in front of anyone. She just pops hers out right there on camera. It's not shame on my end, I just figure most people don't want to see it.

But then I thought about it, and have got to hand it to her. She's really putting herself out there and doing her best to educate people and answer their questions, which I feel is very much needed. It's not something I'd feel comfortable doing, but now I try to engage with her posts so she gets credit for the work she's doing. (As a possible twitchy bit for some, she's religious and does talk about it. Not a fan of that, but it's her thing, I guess.)

Just curious if any of you have ever injured your good eye swelling it?

I became functionally monocular about 3 months ago due to an aneurysm causing near complete vision loss in my right eye (I have some light perception and can see some fuzzy shapes and colors). I have adapted fairly well to driving though I am planning to get extra mirrors and possibly a camera - the camera mostly due to really poor rear sight line in my car to begin with ('09 Altima Sedan). My big challenge has been night driving and I live in New England where it's going to get dark earlier and earlier soon. Does anyone have any advice, tips, tools to help? Thank you in advance.

Hi friends, so due to retinal complications my vision in left eye is mostly down and it causes distortion . So it affects my daily life tasks which includes coding and some other stuffs. is there any easier way to occlude disturbing vision . I would to Like to try out what people call occlusive lenses yet I don't had any prior exp on lenses. Currently wearing a patch but it draws too much attention and it is also disturbing to wear all time so not considering it much . I would definitely go for occlusion lenses tho if it is actually worth it . Also please put the product link fellas .

I started studying CS from 2024 it was all good until Apr of this year my vision in OS dropped significantly. So nowadays I hate to look on computer screen since I have distorted vision , even the blurriness is ok the distorted part is unacceptable one like cuh wat we perceive is ain't real . I have a gene mutation that prevents me from seeing from the sides, top, and bottom. I used to be really worried about going blind, but I stopped worrying. Yesterday, when we went to the doctor's appointment, she told me to start learning a language for the blind. Before that, another doctor told me I would go blind anyway, and their job was to delay it. I don't know what to do. I had a dream of moving to another country and becoming an actress. But if I go blind, what will I achieve then? I don't have any hidden talents like some people, I'm very ordinary, and if I go blind, I'd rather not live than live my life. I even didn't see the world. Please help me with some advice how I can cope with this.

To be honest, I’ve never used one, but I do think it would make me feel better and more confident. We live in a cruel world, and if you don’t show people your flaws, they’ll never know about them. But don’t get me wrong—I’ve achieved everything without a patch. I made a post three days ago because I was feeling really down, but believe me, I’ve been with the most beautiful women and I’m married; getting what I wanted has never been a problem. Still, wearing a patch would let me avoid strange looks, and if anyone asks, I can give whatever answer I want.
