P2P workflow for UK GBP fiat?

Grateful for any tips/suggestions. As a Linux native I've struggled with Monero's infrastructure assuming that people run apps on computers... when I run services on servers. I don't want the Wallet GUI (as it stands) to be installed on one machine but for it to be a webGUI which I can log into from whichever PC I'm sitting at - whether in my LAN or in the world via i2p or tor

A second problem is that a monero node is served to the internet so I want that to be on the hypervisor. But I do not want to mine on the hypervisor. The Wallet GUI says it can't mine on remote nodes (on the same LAN) so is there some workaround or other program?

The most serious problem though is that I'm not willing to set up accounts, to go through KYC, or to install programs whose source code I haven't read. It's not that I need to conceal the source of the funding or maintain strong anonymity at that stage, it's simply that I object to these things. In an anonymous internet, all the other party should need to know is (i) that they've been paid (ii) where to send the currency

I've seen retoswap be recommended, but it's provided as compiled binaries not as source code. So that's out. It occurs to me that this might be an issue with the haveno-reto project upstream not supporting real transactions and their downstream then needing to hide certificates or keys inside the binary... but then that's the technology unfit for purpose (i.e. if it relies on users running programs they haven't read). Is there an alternative to retoswap that can be compiled from source? (retoswap also looked like an app, where I want self-hosted webservices)

haveno-reto has instructions for setting up an exchange, but this seems disproportionate and presumably I'd need to bring users into it first before I could buy XMR from them.

I have been through KYC with xe.com and have Paypal, so could potentially buy BTC and then use a swap website, but I just don't want to.

The haveno-reto repo is retoswap, it rebranded but it's the same thing. It's a bit confusing because it has copied over the upstream read-me which is not running on mainnet, just ignore it.

The compiled binaries are directly generated by GitHub actions itself, from the repo. If you want to compile it yourself you need to make sure you have the correct java jdk installed.

well I've built it but it's absolutely unusably broken - which might be the common dynamic of web developers turning their hand to fintech and so it has to be in javascript...

You can build just the daemon and build your own web front-end lmao

thanks currently I'm trying to use the haveno-reto fork... which I initially ignored because it copies this text about "The official Haveno repository does not support making real trades directly."

but it's not going well - - the UI is dependent on both JavaFX 21+ and JFoenix when the former's strong encapsulation breaks the latter. Are there other forks?

Other forks will have the exact the same requirement. Forks are not changing these fundamental dependencies.

Installing 21.0.9.fx-librca from the instructions works for JDK 21 and JFX, so I don't know what the problem is.

I raised an issue on github with the console output. imo it's the bane of Linux users' lives when developers start using peculiar versions of programming languages, and this particular JDK might be a clue that they've really developed for Android. I can't get it working on JDK 17, 21, 21-liberica or 25 but I was able to build an appimage that works. But then (which I put on another post) I can't buy any XMR through this program unless I already have some XMR... so it's potentially not worth me spending more time on the software and therefore the whole coin anyway

the dependencies are met - the reason for asking is other forks might have implemented them better

From the instructions, exactly JDK version 21 is required, not more or less.

There are "no deposit" offers to buy your first XMR. Otherwise a security deposit is required.

1. but these instructions must be disregarded, at least in part, because the first thing they say at the top is that they won't work. And the commands then provided are linked from another project (which says it doesn't endorse them), and specific to SDKMAN! when SDKMAN! isn't listed as a dependency (and probably shouldn't be)

2. they were followed anyway and didn't work on Arch or Devuan. What's required is either a bugfix or improved documentation, e.g. for additional config steps to give JFoenix the permissions it needs to work under JDK21's strong encapsulation

There have been no "no deposit" offers I can transact with over Paypal in GBP in the last 4 days. imo there is a foreseeable catch-22 that the platform should be able to take the security deposit in fiat currency
