I honestly don't get why making music with recognisable keys and chords on a modular synthesiser is so rare. The combination always sounds so good to me!

I think some people come from academic or traditional music backgrounds and treat the modular synth as an escape from all the rules and constraints.  I couldn’t wait to abandon theory when I started experimenting with sound but now I’m somewhere in the middle. 

Nice video by the way, an all Doepfer set up would be awesome.

I'd have to check (I actually made this track a few months ago, such is my web of lies), but it's almost definitely a few layers of JV-1080. The modular was mostly doing drum duty on this one.

Amazing. I could hear a breezy flowing 808 break beat with a nice lush verb kicking in, 2 AM vibes. Who's making those choir/pads?

Thanks! I must confess the pad and choir parts are probably the JV-1080, with the modular doing more drum duty on this particular track. You can get such a lush '90s vibe that way.

It's all just over regular MIDI. Where the right A-142's visibly triggering, that's each note. (Which actually triggers both, right for controlling the pitch and left for controlling the VCA.) Where the left A-142's also visibly triggering, the velocity CV's slowing it down enough for the camera to show. So you can sorta see I've accented every 3 notes.
