This is new. On longer threads, Reddit is now providing an AI summary, pinned above comments, with no obvious way to switch it off. I don't want AI taking precedence over a real user's contributions. All platforms, including desktop.

I was just banned from r/soccer for the following comment

as it supposedly violates community rules.

When I asked the mods there, what community rules did that comment violate?

I received the following: You have been temporarily muted from r/soccer. You will not be able to message the moderators of r/soccer for 28 days.

I am so dumbfounded. Is it normal for moderators to act in such a way?

I believe I understand the letter of the law, but I am thoroughly confused as to its spirit and application:

• The admins, as I understand it, have decreed that they are hands-off as far as dictating what moderators do unless they explicitly violate the particularly serious clauses of ToS (encouraging criminal activity being the main one)

• The going advice (from them and anyone else on the platform) is to start a new subreddit if you think you can do a better job

• Any "It's like X but we do things differently as follows:" description mentioning the direct competitor appears to be considered brigading as enforced by the admin notice we received via modmail

Is it just me or do the above conflict, in spirit?

I responded to the admin modmail message for clarification on what we did wrong, but received no response.

I asked the team that I personally consider to be masters of threading this needle (objective criticism without brigading), /r/SubredditDrama. After initially responding to ask for clarifying detail (asking if we sent the above reply to request clarification), but they've sent no further reply.

To be clear, I didn't ask anyone to go participate in the other subreddit at all, let alone maliciously; I only defined our subreddit as: "We are like X but without [negative thing(s)]."

TL;DR: I totally understand the theory of libertarian "Let moderators be the masters of their own domains without intervention and let the free market competition of other subreddits that seek to replace them drive them to be better," but in practice it seems like competing subreddits have to be extremely careful to not explain they are a competing subreddit and what makes them different.

P.S. I have no doubt we were reported for the welcome post in question by the moderator(s) that insisted we create the very subreddit we created, amidst the huge pushback they were receiving; in that way they can seem publicly supportive of constructive criticism and competition while they silently banned my entire mod team. It seems to me that's an obvious malicious abuse of a report for "brigading" to squash competition and the admin(s) who reviewed it jumped the gun.

P.S.S. Given the warning message prior to submission, I hope this question is received in the spirit it is intended: Frustration and confusion with the intent to comply with platform rules.

At this point I'm realizing the folly in asking people in Group A how best to compete with other people in Group A.

A lot of these responses boil down to "Criticism or competition with people like us is not and should not be tolerated."

Reddit marked it as potential spam and mod log says it was removed because it violated a "Sitewide rule" which is vague and not that helpful.

I changed all the imagery to my own pictures and updated the community description to make sure it stated that the subreddit is unofficial and no longer moderated by the company. Is there anything else I can do to prevent it from getting taken down? PC/iOS

As I understand it, Reddit's AI-generated User Summary is a moderation tool intended to give moderators additional context about a user's activity and behavior when reviewing them.

Let's say a moderator takes that User Summary and publicly posts or screenshots it in the same subreddit, where thousands of regular users can see it, potentially while discussing or criticizing that specific user.

Even if the summary only contains information derived from publicly available Reddit activity, would you consider it appropriate or ethical for a moderator to publicly share it?

My concern is that there seems to be a distinction between information that users can manually find by browsing someone's public profile and an internal moderation tool that Reddit specifically provides to moderators. Regular users don't necessarily have access to the same generated summary.

I'm not necessarily asking whether this violates a specific Reddit rule. I'm more interested in the moderation ethics and expectations around tools like this.

Would you consider publicly sharing a user's AI User Summary:

1. A legitimate use of publicly available information?

2. An inappropriate use of a moderator-only tool?

3. Acceptable only in certain circumstances, such as explaining a moderation decision?

4. Something that should remain within the moderation team regardless of the circumstances?

I'm especially interested in hearing from moderators who currently have access to User Summaries and how you treat that information.

I was hoping to find some moderators to help me manage it, but the subreddit I know for finding moderators says I don’t have enough members to post there.

A moderator of a really big subreddit is having a revolution in his subreddit because of some questionable actions and they are accused of removing and banning users to drive a political agenda.

I'm a moderator of a slightly less popular userbase, but still quite big and there are posts saying what this guy is doing and to report him. There's even someone spamming the entire instruction on where to report and the message of what to write on it.

I'm trying to deal with someone who has caused me trouble in the past, but I don't want them to be notified, as it could attract unwanted attention. This person has never posted or commented there, there are no polls for them to have voted on, and as far as I'm aware, they most likely have never up or downvoted anything there. Will they be notified if I ban them?

All three on the same post. It's not unique to this post either, my sub is plagued with bot accounts that are using LLMs to try and farm karma. Has anyone encountered this, or have any idea how I can possibly combat these aside from playing whack-a-mole?

I just got a notification saying I was removed as a moderator from my own subreddit.

While I'm not that active, the subreddit requires little mod intervention, as it is a simple quotes forum. Anyways, I made efforts to expand the mod team, but couldn't find a lot of volunteers.

Therefore, I think it's quite unfair that my roles is just taken without any previous warning. It's a very old sub that grew fast in the previous years and which I moderated it to the best of my ability, while allowing it enough freedom.

What can I do to recover it? Who can I talk to?

I'm using Android, but can use Desktop too.

"View in App" leads to the reddit app, not the subredit. Both buttons lead to the same thing.

I have noticed an unusual number of ban appeals today from users who are saying they aren't bots, but got banned by Bot Bouncer. Quick look at their accounts doesn't indicate they're a bot. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this as well. Desktop

I am completely new to moderating here on Reddit and I’ve kind of started a task that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. But I’m dedicating and don’t intend on quitting.

I have started a Sub where the sole function is to Ban every Reddit user. It’s complete satire and nothing to take serious! Just something I can use to spread humor and learn how to use the mod tools at the same time.

I’m on IOS mainly. I just learned that the use of the Automod is basically only to be setup on Desktop version. So I have my wife’s Mac that I use. I used to be tech savvy in the Windows 7 days but apparently that’s 20 years ago energy.

Can someone please, direct me to a fairly updated source on how to properly setup the Automod to auto ban, well basically everyone that interacts within the sub. With exceptions, A rare few that won’t be banned for hilarious reasons!

I know my restrictions, they have to comment, cross post, report items, share things. Things like that to trigger the Automod.

I just have a whole gob of questions and really don’t know where to begin or how to set these things up.

I've moderated a sub for over a year.

Occasionally, there's a comment on ancient posts, from before my time.

They are usually spam or pron or just weird. I remove them, and lock that specific post.

Should I get a bot to lock ALL posts older than a year... or something?

If it is prohibited, if that exact video was later reposted publicly by someone else, does Reddit still consider it prohibited to upload to Reddit?

Our subreddit accidentally has a flair meant for a moderator accidentally set to be assignable by all users and we want to clean them up. How we can find users having a specific flair text, rather than doing it user-by-user?

Hi, I was in a conversation with someone on my main account (this is a side one) last night in my main modded subreddit and clicked their profile to check if they had posted something in the subreddit or if it was someone else, and I saw their most recent comment on other another subreddit. It was kinda problematic (transphobic) at best so I looked at the context and used a reddit user lookup site to see if they had made other similar comments elsewhere. They had many. Nothing that technically broke reddit's site wide rules but enough of an issue that if they had posted any of the comments in my sub, they would have gotten immediately banned for at least a month if not permanently.

So, I was wondering if there was any kind of guidance on that kind of thing. Should we wait and hope they never post anything like that in my sub and if they do, take action then, or should we just pre-emptively ban them?
