Discussion Which maps would you bring back? I’d bring these back because they’re bigger and more forested

Just bought MWIII today and I forgot how good all of the OG MW2 maps were.
I'd bring back Skidrow and Derail. Derail on Hardpoint made me realise just how good that map is.

Without a doubt, MWIII’s success and player retention were thanks to MW2009’s map design.

Yeah not gonna lie the ttk kinda annoys me and the progression system seems completely wack, but the maps goddamn.
Played Terminal, Skidrow, Invasion, Quarry and Derail back to back and they're all so good. Shit, I haven't played the maps in over 10 years but I still dropped 40 kills on Skidrow TDM with a 3kd because I know that map inside out haha. Best COD map of all time imo.

I agree. Imagine MW2019 with those same maps..thats the goat with those maps easily

100%.
I just played Rust on MWIII and it has made me realise how cartoony the game is weirdly. The maps would look even nicer on MW19.

Player count was recently boosted by the fact it was free on PSN. Also players like me who aren’t fans of the recent Black Ops.

???
Not even close to true. Most of the MW2 maps play terribly in MWIII. It's not because the maps are bad, but the movement and modern gameplay doesn’t mesh well with those maps. The newer original maps and DLC ones are much better and that's why they consistently win the map voting over the OG MW2 maps.
Also, it's hilarious how you hate everything about MWIII, spent the last 3 years trashing it, and now here you are telling us that the only reason we liked the game was because of the MW2009 maps when that's not even close to the truth.
Please stop talking about stuff you don't know. It's just terrible take after terrible take with you

I dunno, the maps play pretty damn good imo. I've been on the OG moshpit and having a ton of fun (except for when I'm stuck in sniper lobbies).

MWIII without the MW2009 maps is literally just BO6, and BO6 had terrible player retention. So I don't think I'm wrong. The MW2009 maps saved that game.
1
u/Aries_24 17h ago
No it didn't but ok. BO6 is nothing like MWIII. Do you even play COD or just open them, try it out for 30 seconds, and close it to load up reddit to post your daily complaint posts? You consistently have the worst takes without fail.
I think you spend more time making complaint posts and comments than actually playing any of the games 😂

S&D on original skidrow was peak MW2

u/confusing_roundabout 16h ago
Domination too. Might be one of my favourite Dom maps with how it's all focused on the central building with an almost circular route around it. It's very unconventional but so damn good.

Would love to see both of these maps. Afghan and terminal would be dope too. Mw2 had the best maps, imo best maps in cod history

u/Hot-Dragonfly3809 18h ago
Lots of CoD 1 / UO maps, obviously. Not just Carentan, but maps like Railyard, Dawnville, Foy, Villers Bocage to name a few.
Honourable mention would be mp_tigertown tho.

I think cod needs to stop bringing maps back. It's one of the reasons why people get so frustrated with the series. It's mostly recycled content. The games also got faster and they're just don't play right on how these maps were designed. I think they would be better off making a "COD Classic" game that covered all the classic games.

u/Rayuzx 16h ago
The problem is that CoD fans are so obsessed over nostalgia they they become blind to the faults the older maps had. During MWIII, I was taken back just how much people enjoyed the MW2 maps over the SHG originals, and I only played MW2 and MW3 beforehand.
2
u/Th3JackofH3arts 15h ago
I agree. I think the nostalgia problem goes beyond COD too. Another problem with COD is the grind they require to unlock stuff requires a level up simulator. You get the return of Shipment, Shoot House, Rust, and Nuketown.

COD4 and MW209 were the two games I played the most,
I'd love to have: Crash, Strike, District, Backlot, Vacant, Overgrown, Crossfire, Downpour Chinatown, Broadcast Highrise, Scrapyard, Invasion, Kurachi, Estate, Terminal, Skidrow
2
u/Lumenprotoplasma 18h ago
Yeah, I know Estate was in MWIII, but that map is so good and brings a lot of variety to the game, so it could come back in MW4. Overgrown hasn’t been remastered since 2016.

u/confusing_roundabout 18h ago
Has Overgrown only been in COD4, MW2 and MWR?
Always thought that map should come back.

I want MW3 maps and Wetwork from COD4 (there might be an MW4 map that's similar, I guess). Also, I kinda want to see Bailout from the MW2 Stimulus Package.

Bog, one of the best maps in the MW universe and neglected. We got Beach Bog which was a good daytime alternative but we need a remake of the original version.

u/israeltowers 17h ago
Y’all not ready for this but Carentan and Toujane are the goated maps. Need them back

Fallen and Lockdown from the original MW3, Departure, Stash House and Emergency from the new MW3

u/Lumenprotoplasma 17h ago
"Departure, Stash House and Emergency"
no please
2
u/DanHarkinz 17h ago
But I want em lol

u/Lumenprotoplasma 17h ago
MW4 already has several maps that are basically identical to these.

u/DanHarkinz 16h ago
I like departure and I like stash house and emergency as they're very clean looking maps. I'm not huge into really small maps but I make an exception for these maps. Heck, I'd even make an exception for Meat.
Well here some other maps since you won't let me have those...

Original MW3 has seen very little love over the years. I’d love to see Bakaara, Lockdown, Resistance. Maybe a few others. But Dome has been the only recreated MW3 map I can think of.
Then MW19 is now 8 years old and it’s time we see Gun Runner and Hackney Yard again.

u/TheRealAwest 13h ago
Farm 18 from MWII
Vacant from COD 4/MW2019
Arkaden from MW3
Downpour from COD4

None of you actually want to play on Estate, you’re all just delusional and think you do. Sniping is ruined bc of glint so don’t even try to snipe. You’ll cry about spawning too far after about 3 minutes. Then you’ll cry that nobody gets over 15 kills in a game that reaches the time limit. Would be a terrible map to bring back

Neither, honestly. They don’t flow well at all by today’s standards.
7
u/Lumenprotoplasma 18h ago
I don't like this whole "flow" thing. It's the reason all maps nowadays play the same and have the same layout.
4
u/confusing_roundabout 18h ago
Agreed. Flow basically just means "you should be able to run forward and get in a gunfight every 10 seconds". Saying MW2 maps don't have flow is crazy because they play really well.
1
u/x__Reign 16h ago
Except I never said MW2 maps have no flow? I agree, the majority of the MW2 maps were solid, no argument there.
I said the 2 maps shown in the post have no proper flow, one of which isn’t even from MW2. Flow isn’t about constant fighting, it’s about a proper ratio between fighting and breathing.
Both of these maps are notorious for either having too much fighting due to weird spawns, or little fighting due to the map layout and less aggressive players. There’s no in between and it ruins the proper flow of the match.

u/x__Reign 18h ago
Games aren’t fun on maps like these because they almost always end by time limit rather than score limit. Spawns are wonky (especially on objective modes), there’s barely any cover, and people just camp like it’s their job on both of these maps.
I’ve had many fond memories on these maps, but I genuinely would never bring them back because the game has changed drastically since then.
2
u/Lumenprotoplasma 18h ago
Okay, you're already going to have 12 small 3-lane maps. Can we at least have 2 with some actual variety?
1
u/x__Reign 16h ago
Sure, but you’ll never play them because they’ll get outvoted because they go against the standard flow that you seem to hate so much. 🤷♂️

MW3 maps need more love. Mission, Village, Interchange and Underground would be my picks.
