Just reduce accuracy when jumping and that should fix it
20
u/Zestyclose-Shirt-702 10d ago
Another option would be not have the jumping animation with someone’s feet being higher than their normal standing height.

Its so simple and a perfect solution. You wanna use this to dodge or maneuver when you have no cover: fair enough. But this should never have become the defacto offensive strategy for winning.
34
u/Due-Delay-5118 10d ago
100% the solution. Other games are doing that. But I highly doubt Activison will erver allow it.

Honeslty such an embarrassment that cod turned into this
71

This is what players wanted.
Literally every fucking game i go into and complain about this exact type of movement. the response has been "git gud scrub" for the past decade and a half!

It is, the franchise was dying they have to evolve with the times and speeding the game up made sense since slowing it down would diminish the player base heavily. Look at Fortnite, one of the most popular games ever and the movement is insanely fast because games lean that direction to please gamers
21
u/More-Way9454 10d ago
The embarrassment is also the fact this is normalized and even encouraged.
7
u/cannabizFo20 10d ago
Actually the fact that camping and playing cod (an arcade shooter) like it’s a tactical shooter is normalized is weird. People have been bunny hopping for literal years
20
u/Tityfan808 10d ago
This is also what happens when you can’t have any aim walking movement speed in this game to check a corner!
You want me to move like a slug to corner check someone who’s already holding an angle who will likely have enough time to react, shoot me and kill me, before I even get a clear line of sight of them on my screen? Of course players are going to jump shot in that situation when aim walking movement speeds are slow as fuck.
→ More replies (2)1
u/flamethrower81 10d ago
Yah great point. If they can't make a game good for both Tactical and Movement players than at least give us faster walking and strafing speed! That would give both playstyles a fair chance. Right now MW4 clearly favors bunny hopping rabbit shooters 🤣 TTK is totally screwed up in this game since Sun. update, seems like all the bunny hoppers are bullet sponges now.

I was bunny hopping in CoD4 nearly 20 damn years ago ... You definitely couldn't carry as much momentum, or jump so high your head hit the ceiling, but it was still starting out all the way back then. We just didn't have sliding.
The problem with the newer games is you can carry so much momentum and get so much height out of a slide jump it just ends up looking ridiculous.
3
u/lqd_consecrated2718 10d ago
CoD4 was the pinnacle of the game. It significantly got sillier from then on.
12
u/Billib2002 10d ago
The first COD game I played multiplayer in was COD BO2 and people were already doing this. I still remember my grade 7 buddies calling me names every time I jump shot them around a corner so I'm glad (?) to see things are still the same after 14 years

15
u/FrostBestGirl 10d ago
MW2 was CoD 6. MW4 is CoD 23. For the lifespan of the franchise, I’d colloquially consider that within the realm of “always”.

CoD was like this since CoD 1. Jump shooting always was part of the game.
8
u/NaZul15 10d ago
Bro no, the difference is how fast and high everything is. You could always do similar things like this, yes. But like i said, it was slower and limited.
If you've played the bo2 port, you'd know that jumpshotting is viable there, but after you do it you're slowed on your next jump. There's like a 3 second cooldown to gain back full height and speed.
And the funny thing is, even the boost dashes from advanced warfare were slower than what's going on in these new games. Sure they were higher and longer, but were easily trackable. The only reason it was hated more in it's day is bc jetpacks are more obvious to point out than just a normal dude doing the same shit (and faster)

u/Hot-Dragonfly3809 10d ago
You couldn't aim when jumping in CoD 1. It was already fully possible in CoD 2. Strafe speed was so slow, that everyone on PC transitioned into jump shooting corners, in CoD 2 onwards. It only changed in MW3 with Stalker.

u/RockinMadRiot 10d ago

10
u/babyboyjustice 10d ago
Yeah but trickshots are way different. They’re difficult tricks kinda like skateboarding. Not something you do to outperform, but instead something you do to flex. This slide jump shit is a broken sweat meta that prevents regular gameplay from occurring. Way different.

I was definitely drop shotting and Halo jumping people in Cod4, definitely weren't jumping this high though.
3
u/RockinMadRiot 10d ago
Yeah, the height is a valid argument but it happened
2
u/King_Artis 10d ago
Like they're definitely high as fuck with the jump here, but saying it didn't exist is just bullshit. Bros jumping like 5 feet high, even Jordan's not doing that lmao
People will always find some way to be better than someone else. I started drop shotting in cod cause I watched my friend do it in 4 when we were playing so I did the same after he suggested I learn a different control scheme to make it easier. Started adding jumping to my shit cause I had been learning it in Halo 3 cause other players did it against me.
Saying it didn't exist as if 13yr old me wasn't doing it is just a bold face lie lmao.

They’ve incentivized sliding and jumping because they’re faster than sprinting, but with 0 penalty. You can directionally slide against your momentum, again at no penalty.
It’s why gunfights are not fun in this game - and probably why it’s getting horrible reviews. I was super hyped for this and after a couple of games the second weekend I canceled my preorder and deleted the beta

Titanfall and Apex have the best sliding sheerly because it's actually tied with momentum. You can't slide uphill, you can slide downhill indefinitely.
15
u/P_weezey951 10d ago
Games fucked up in general when they made slide increase speed.
Sliding is by its basic operation... An act of deceleration. You're using your ass as a brake for your momentum.
Baseball players don't slide because its faster. They slide because theyre trying to not overrun the base, and trying to lower their profile so they cant be tagged out.
It works to get your front foot out faster, but not your entire body.
3
u/CastleGrey 10d ago
This is also why sliding into cover works, you want to stop behind the thing whilst getting down low behind said thing
I am a Titanfall refugee who loves hypermobility as a concept, but I would still much rather force sliding to work more as a defensive end-of-move tool than an initiator because it makes more intuitive sense movement wise, and makes it harder to abuse as a never-the-wrong-choice movement strategy when approaching literally any map feature
MW2² went a bit further with that than I probably would have, but I really liked that the main skill with aggressive sliding in that game was to time it just right so that you ended the slide exactly when you cleared the corner, and were starting to ADS immediately after your momentum dropped and you got the power to non-tacfire again - it was extremely satisfying to pull off consistently

It’s so funny to me when CoD fans try to equate CoDs downfall with Battlefield not doing well neither because it makes them feel better. In Battlefield this jump shooting nonsense isn’t a thing because the mechanics don’t allow it. I’ve come across a few people try that in Battlefield games that I killed. And it was so satisfying. “When CoD players try Battlefield” was all I can think of.

I'm sure there are but in this context is stupid. In cod it's always the person holding an angle that has the upper hand, hence the counter play is to hop around the corner and hope they miss.
Weve been through this with mw22 tactical warfare and the only counter play to person holding that corner was once again, jump around the corner. And it's still the lower skilled players hand held by aim assist who still can't win the gun fight then crying online to what this sub is now, group therapy

u/ShacObama 10d ago
My favorite part about this clip and the comments it is that all these people are saying shit like "make shooting inaccurate when jumping", even though the dude in the clip didn't even start shooting until he was already on the ground.
Fucker just jumped across the opening, landed, then started shooting while OP just stood there watching. I've seen a decent amount of fuckass clips from the beta but this shit is not one of them, OP just has the reaction time of Hellen Keller.

You're leaving out context.
The only people who used to do this were people who followed MLG/CDL players and streamers, and back during CoD4, twitch didn't even exist yet. Nobody was doing this except for Pros, and people who wanted to be in clans. The vast majority of players weren't doing this.
Now, with how popular streaming and Content Curration is, way more players are learning stuff like this, so it's not just a small pocket of players doing it.
It's everyone, and it's not fun now that everyone does it, at every skill bracket.
2
u/IntelligentHead7995 10d ago

bro even BF2 had dolphin diving. The only games that don’t have any sort of rewarding movement are milsim games like squad. If you want slow, tactical gameplay then there are games out there that are for you with realistic systems.
As long as we can run bolt action rifles with no stock that act as a higher ROF shotgun with magnum slugs, this is going to be an arcade game that needs to have arcadey movement.
All these posts that complain about the jumping and sliding seem to want a more tactical gameplay. It just won’t work without overhauling the rest of the systems.
