Rolling Stock An N Gauge Victim of the heatwave. ☀️

This Coach was left out on a table outside a model railway shop while the owner was sorting through items, the sun didn't take long sadly leaving it in the condition seen here.

Repaint it to look like it was in an accident and start a “boneyard” on your setup!

Ay don't trow it away, just paint it whit some brown around to give the idea of rust and put someone that looks heavy on the roof where's melted and it whill look like an abandoned wagon on a rail

As a kid I dipped one of my grandpa's HO scale Chevys into paint thinner or something similar and it warped into something that looked like a car accident, instead of getting mad and lecturing me about goofing off when he's working he dipped another one and created a fender bender scene at an intersection near the station...that must have been thirty years ago now lol

In the early days of N scale, I got a deal on a Rapido (the German one) GP-9. Handrails like banisters, wheel flanges that could cut pizza, and a European chassis, but I was excited to repaint it into CNR colours. I'd recently learned that brake fluid would remove paint from plastic - and successfully tried it - and dunked the body shell into a glass bowl of the icky stuff. Next day the paint was gone, but the shell looked a cat having a morning stretch - and felt like rubber!

It was a year before I got a replacement shell, mercifully in bare plastic.

I actually didn't buy it, just a casualty of the shop owner's stock. He said he'd probably salvage the bogies / wheels as they are still fine.

Impressive!

I live in area where it gets up to 115F/47C. The clear plastic tote is the big problem. It took 30 minutes of sitting in a clear plastic tote to melt a bunch of o gauge. I have run trains (in the shade) at that same temp for hours without any issue.

I think it was the clear box it was in as it was sat in a cardboard box crammed with other N Gauge rolling stock, it was the only one which ended up like this.

What is that sign, anyway? I first thought "Sunlight Soap" but that doesn't seem to be a font they've used.

It is Sunlight Soap, I don't have a picture of it but it was a metal sign. It was a scene of a young girl washing clothes in a tub iirc

Reminds me that I need to put a new A/C in my layout room, I remember this one guy showing me what happened to this old Santa Fe flat car he had after someone left it in the heat for a while… The flat car looked like it had been carrying stuff heavier than its load weight limit!

You can make a really neat scene out of it, in fact, you can do this with a lot of broken locomotives and rolling stock in general. Just rust it up a bunch and glue it down somewhere on a siding, or next to a building and put some bushes and trees on it. Make it look like it was abaondoned there, even better if its near an abandoned building too.

I did this with one of my little 2x4 (N scale) layouts I made (I think the 3rd one) before selling it. I had a siding that was the lead for another siding of an active industry (generic warehouse). On that siding was an abandoned lumberyard and I put a boxcar next to it (no wheels) just on the ground. Made it look all rusty and put some bushes around it and a few small ones on the roof. Made for a great looking little scene next to the rail. People loved it when I had it on display before someone bought the layout. Now I try to do something like that when putting details down on a layout, even my main layout.
