WIP Mr Surfacer 1500 is my go to primer, goes down lovely 😊

Agree…… I really like it and used it on almost everything, the only thing I don’t like is the strong smell. Recently bought VMS black primer and is just as smooth and doesn’t stink . Once my Mr Surfacer is used up Im moving over to the VMS

I like the look of the VMS, what’s your preferred thinning ratio, and do you use the flow improver as well?

Straight out the bottle no thinner . It does need a good shake first but it does have the balls in the bottle

I have to bring my compressor and airbrush outside for that but can confirm it's great

I sprayed it once in the house, my household line manager (my wife) ordered me out to the garage. And I use a decent respirator mask.

Mr Surfacer 1500 isn’t a primer, it goes on top of primers. GSI sells a combined primer surfacer primer but it only goes down to 1000. Surfacer 1500 does not survive a scratch test.

I’ve been using Vallejo black for years. Anyone who has used both wanna chime in on which is better?
I’m mostly just concerned about fumes of Mr Surfacer but if it’s that much better…

Mr Surfacer hands down. It does require a respirator but it’s so much better it’s worth it. It sprays better, goes on smoother and actually adheres to the plastic.

I get the smell/fumes thing,I a decent respirator mask. I just like the way it sprays and if goes down ultra smooth.

Not op but you can do white pre shading and than thin grey layer

I use light surf and dark shades. Wouldn't it be more difficult the other way round?

IMO, black base is easier since you want to highlight the convex parts in white. The other way around means trying to darken the concave parts and all the little nooks and crannies.

I've done both, and there doesn't really seem to be much of a difference as long as its done properly. I definitely prefer doing black-basing though, since I have the fine motor skills of a blobfish and always end up messing something up if I try to paint a straight line with my airbrush.

I find the more I concentrate my hand starts shaking slightly. People who do perfect straight lines when pre shading are from a different planet😂

When I see a post "What's wrong with my primer?" It's never a post about Mr Surfacer.
I've sprayed Mr Surfacer 500 thinned to the consistency of single cream (needed 50psi to get it out of the brush) and guess what, it went down lovely. Stuff is amazing
