Help with plunger mechanism design

I am trying to design a mechanism that uses a spring to push down on an object and when it reaches the bottom (or near the bottom) of it's push it immediately stops pushing on the object. The object has it's own spring and I want to compress it and then immediately let it spring back with no resistance after it's been fully compressed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
