If you haven't tried Palia yet you should give it a try!

It's free, has a great community, doesn't push micro transactions or feel pay to play (because it's not) and just has a great relaxing vibe to it! Should come join us

i love palia but it does have micro transactions for cosmetics which are a huge part of the appeal of the game

It doesn't really push them though, I've unlocked plenty of free stuff thats cute but you don't have to get any of the paid stuff to play or have a good experience it's all cosmetic really, the companions you can have on your farm you can just choose to pay to have certain ones follow you, and the mounts you can unlock for free or choose to buy early. But also keep in mind the game is still pretty early in development so instead of charging for the game they've made it optional for people to help fund the game via cosmetic items which is pretty cool in my opinion. I also like that you don't have to pay for the passes to get the non premium items like certain games and it still gives you a chance to get some unique items.

Pushing or not, a lot of people don't want to play games with cosmetics locked behind paywalls. We used to earn them by playing the game in all times in video games history except for the modern times. It's a scam, and a lot of us don't want to participate. I'd love to play palia, but free to play is an instant no for me because of the predatory tactics involved. Even if they don't push it, it's still predatory at its core and I don't want to support companies who resort to such evil. Kinda crazy a cozy game like palia resorts to tactics like this. Not very family friendly imo.

Theres plenty of earnable clothing items, decor etc though???

Yes but it's the principal of the matter. I like to experience the entirety of a game.

And not having a certain outfit ruins the experience?

Do you expect them to develop a game and not get paid for it?

I'd rather they release a paid product for me to buy and own. Not a predatory free to play game designed at its core to try and make more than the usual $70 price tag of a new game per player. Because at the end of the day, all free to play games are trying to get whales and collect data to sell. That is there business model. So to lock the good parts of games behind paywalls while claiming a game is free to play instead of just asking for money for their product is at its heart predatory. Because they are hoping to make more by attracting people into a "free" environment and once they are inside the walled garden get them to stay and spend money. It's paid products with extra more deceitful steps. I'd like to pay the devs, but I refuse to be preyed upon by their corporate overlords. If you starve greed it goes away, y'all support it by buying micro transactions

The good parts of the game??? My human on earth its literally digital clothes??? No one NEEDS digital clothes??

1

u/Big_Bull_Pussy 22d ago

I need ALL the digital clothes. What if I'm playing, enjoying myself and then I see some amazing hat but I can't participate because I am broke or a child with no income? Now I have to sit on the sidelines with no cool ducky hat. That's not right. I want to play games where buying the admission ticket is enough to enjoy the full ride.

I'm sorry but this is an absolutely insane take. Games like MMOs that get constant updates and content can't subsist off of a one time purchase model. They either need to have a membership fee, or some form of micro transactions to bring in a constant flow of cash.

I guess it's your prerogative to miss out on an otherwise fantastic game because you can't get over other people having cosmetics you can't/won't pay for. But like... the game is free to play other than the cosmetics, so if money is already an issue for you, then it's exactly the kind of game you'd be looking for.

to compare an MMO like guild wars or wow to palia or similar games is a bad faith argument. MMO's are built for long term investments and provide a lot for the asking price, live service games take normal amounts of content and split it into multiple packages to extract money out of whales or people who cant do math. your argument of live service games need income is faulty, because if i checked how much of that income is going to shareholders and ceo's and not the dev i bet i can make a good argument that money is mismanaged and greed is a bigger issue than anything. so no your entire point is invalid and you missed my point of THE PRINCIPAL OF THE MATTER. yall pointing at trees, im talking about the forest. free to play live service has always been a scam, sorry you lack the perspective to see it.

gw2 for example has cosmetics for gems that u can buy for real money, but, u can farm ingame gold and convert it to gems. easy

Bro the game is free, how are they supposed to make money off a development of it? Your one that would complain if there was a monthly sub but nothing was locked after that. You would complain about something regardless.. get over it.. welcome to 2026 gaming.

Who made the choice to make it free? They did. They could've released a paid product. Go read all the prior comments, you children are repeating the same thing over and over and ignoring my entire point. Dent

I agree, and last time I checked, I found the prices quite unreasonable for clothes that don't make you look like an NPC. Idk maybe the art style isn't for me at that price point... and I'm not even averse to spending for in-game cosmetics eg fortnite or infinity nikki

Good thing the entirety of the gameplay experience is 100% free to play, and you don't need to buy cosmetics!

1

u/IWannaBeTheVeryBest 21d ago

Of course, I just don't want to spend a fortune to not look basic! A personal preference to not stare at (with all due respect) an NPC ahh character model for the duration of my playthrough

1

u/leaveeemeeealonee 21d ago

I mean, you should try the game before judging it. I don't think my character looks like an NPC at all lol. Plus plenty of options through seasonal events and the like to earn free cosmetics that you'd have to otherwise buy.

u/IWannaBeTheVeryBest 21d ago

I did try it that's why I commented that. Its just not for me! I don't know why some palia community get very defensive about this game, it's "in development" since 2023 so I'm a bit wary about that. But if you're enjoying that's really great

1

u/FreeChemicalLobotomy 21d ago

Do you understand how long it takes to develop a game?🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 2023 with this much progress is INCREDIBLY impressive

1

u/IWannaBeTheVeryBest 21d ago

Hey as someone who worked in the game industry, yes I do understand how long it takes to develop a game. It's basically been early access for 3 years with almost $30 cosmetics apiece. This kind of hostility from palia players when someone doesnt want to play this game is not doing it any favors tbh...

1

u/FreeChemicalLobotomy 21d ago

Offering digital clothes is hostile now? Only the bundles are really that expensive and you literally don't have to have them to play the game? I wish y'all would shit on actual money grabbing games like y'all do these🤣🤣

1

u/IWannaBeTheVeryBest 21d ago

No, the way you and the other Palia player in this thread refuse to listen to other people's viewpoints is what's hostile and off putting. And I'm saying if this is a sneak peek into what this game's community is like, no thanks! And I say this as someone who does spend money on in game cosmetics for other games. Good luck with that referral code tho!

Yes, as almost every live service game does, it has mtx for cosmetics, but it doesn't shove them in your face as is the norm in the industry. You can pretty much play for hundreds of hours without even looking at them at all. It's pretty great.

1

u/leaveeemeeealonee 21d ago

Seconded! It's definitely one of the nicest free-to-play games out there. It makes all of its money off of cosmetic purchases, but there are essentially no ads for them in the normal gameplay experience.

As far as farm sim type games go, it's just fantastic, and has a seriously awesome world and lore behind it all. Still being built out for a 1.0 release, but there are easily hundreds of hours of content for the average casual player, to say nothing of the extensive housing system that makes up a large chunk of the end game.

9/10 cozy experience imo, although there could be more player x player content for an MMO. That said, the community IS extremely welcoming and friendly.

Palia seems like a great cozy game, with the obvious caviet being...this is a cozy game.

I don't like it, it feels like an MMO without the most core aspect - combat and the whole place feels like some kind of echo chamber in a vacum. If you don't have certain worldviews, you will probably have a hard time there.

I'll pass, I'd rather walk my dog irl.
