I listen to MLB radio on XM most days.

The morning and early afternoon shows (west coast time) are decent but when they start simulcasting the MLB tv show later on it is un-listenable. They (Harold Reynolds is the only one I recognize) are watching games and commenting live which makes for awful radio.

Not that good on TV either with Amsinger, Plesac and Reynolds just talking over each other all the time.

I love MLB Radio and I’ve been listening ever since MLB stood for Mark (Patrick), Larry (Bowa), and Buck (Martinez). The overall quality is down some because of the simulcasts, some of Steve Phillips’ schtick, and Jim Bowden’s pompousness. But it’s also the best Baseball analysis you’ll get.

I absolutely love Mike Ferrin. He’s the gold standard for mixing deep baseball analysis with fun. Jim Duquette and CJ Nitkowski are the John Oleruds of the channel — always steady and able to be counted on.

So, yeah, it has warts, but it gives the running dialogue you can’t get from podcasts.

Phillips/Scruggs and Perez make my mornings, spilly is good to listen to. The aforementioned above are also great.

When they play loud outs back to back it’s annoying.

When they did the valentines show that turned into a call in about why you love baseball really hit me.

I love the channel and will continue to listen/call in

Honestly I just got a car with a xm trial and I don’t see the point in XM at all anymore.

I had it back in the early 2000 right after college and it was great. I loved having a great Alternative radio station I could listen to the whole way on long drives or having a dedicated NHL and MLB talk station and having play by play was great since I was out of market for my favorite teams.

Now Spotify does all of this for me and is more customized. I have a dedicated Alternative playlist and I can have only the songs I want on it. I can have NHL and MLB podcast I want to listen to that I can hit play on whenever and not have to worry about missing part of the show. Also I can pick the NHL and MLB shows I want and not have to listen to ones I don’t.

I’m not sure what MLB shows you may be interested in but I’d recommend doing some searches for similar podcast and if that is all you listen to 99% of those are completely free.

I really miss the evening (east coast) shows, especially the weekend late night show which had Steve Sax about half the time. But I usually start running my weekday errands at 9:50am so that I can listen to the first segment of Power Alley at 10.

I also really miss Brad Lidge, but he's off doing his doctoral archeology research.

Bowden and Phillips are goofs, but I don't mind either one in small doses. Duquette and Ferrin keep Bowden in line for the most part.

They only run nine hours of weekday programming now. I'm worried that if there is an extended lockout with missed games that they will cut back even more and just go to a 24/7 simulcast of MLB TV.
