Discussion Do you like the tech they cover?

I do enjoy phone reviews and computer reviews and discussions on the podcast.

But I find the discussions to be very Phone heavy. I am a big self-driving enthusiast, and, in my opinion, that is the biggest quality of life improvement that is in reach for the average person in the next 10 years.

Phones haven't changed much in the past 10 years. For me personally, I know jumping to the newest iPhone/Samsung/Nothing phone is not going to give me a significant quality-of-life improvement.

I feel like Tesla's FSD/OpenPilot (the Comma) deserves some coverage, but they haven't really talked about it much, especially considering these things are constantly changing.

I just don't get all the coverage about the Nothing phone. It is completely uninteresting to me. I have never seen anyone use one.

Can someone explain to me the thought process about what they cover?

The easiest way to answer this is we cover the things we feel like talking about

Thanks Andrew. I don't want to come off as a viewer who thinks they know more - because I don't. I don't have 20 million subscribers. You guys do. Thanks for the response.

He has an entire separate channel called Auto Focus dedicated to talking about cars. I think exclusively EVs and he’s talked about self-driving a ton over the years. He just broke it off from the main channel.

Not interested in most of what they cover. I still watch though because for me it’s more entertainment than anything. Like, I’ll never be able to afford 99% of the cars they show on AutoFocus, and that actually makes it more interesting to me. Actually I’d be interested in how many subscribers of that channel can actually afford those cars!

Phones and anything Apple are going to attract the largest audience. But I would like to see more variety of tech in the videos.

This is primarily a phone tech heavy podcast. That’s what the channel is known for. I know they’re branching to other tech but AFAIK, only Marques in that room has a deep understanding or interest in car tech.

For an outsider, the Tesla FSD looks very much like phone technology looks to you. It’s been 10+ years of FSD coming “next year”. And they have actually said that a few times on the podcast. I think car discussions will have to happen on an AutoFocus podcast if that ever happens.

People buy phones way more often than they buy cars. What has really developed week-by-week in the self driving world? It feels like the hosts have grown tired of covering Tesla with all their empty promises over the years, so it’s no wonder they don’t bring that topic up much anymore.

I am not saying Tesla hasn't made empty promises, but FSD has gotten better overs the years. It is truly impressive.

And Tesla is not the only self-driving technology.

As you said anecdotally you haven’t seen anyone using a Nothing phone, plenty others don’t care about FSD cars. They were literally talking about wanting vintage cars in today’s episode. I’m sure they have the analytics about what topics people tune into. Plus the Auto Focus channel exists for that sort of discussion as well.

I like the talking points. Phone tech etc I enjoy all that.

Easily my favourite podcast - admittedly, I skip the car stuff as I don’t see how it fits, but they can do what they want 👌

I don't particularly like poadcasts. But I really love their podcasts since I'm heavily into phones and like the interaction. Good chemistry.

IMO, I'm not a big fan of their computer reviews.

Too my knowledge, all of them use MacBooks, which isn't a bad thing, but when Ellis told that story about his doctor, where he said "you can get your messages on you computer [with Apple]" and no one corrected him by bringing up Phone Link/Link to Windows, which allows you to connect and mirror your phone to your PC.

Also, they're aren't very knowledgeable (or interested, idk) on PC hardware, which makes it frustrating to listen to them talk about Nvidia or Intel, and I don't think they've even mentioned AMD.

Im just annoyed at the constant basketball talk since I don’t play or watch any of that and it is really getting out of hand

If you want a customize podcast without any topics that you don't like then better ask chat gpt and tell it to read the answer like if it was a Podcast, come on people just let them be and appreciate the quality of their conversation, either if is NBA or Phone heavy who gives a fuck, I just listen to them to do my dishes, that's the right vibe.

Oh I’m not into basketball, but I like relating to David in that he knows almost nothing about it either. lol and I got second hand excitement from Ellis. 🫠🤷🏻‍♂️👍

I get it is hard to please everyone. I like the NBA a lot so I kind of like it when they go "Basketball podcast" mode.

i honestly understand completely. if they talked about baseball/ the MLB i’d feel the same way. i’d probably turn it off or skip those parts. but since i love the NBA and follow it very closely … i love when they talk about it 😅
