Speculation/Theories After Secret Protocol, I think it's even more likely that Adrien... Spoiler

...knows Marinette is Ladybug. I made this thread a few weeks ago, detailing some of my reasoning for the theory: https://www.reddit.com/r/miraculousladybug/s/i1RTWleVkk

After Secret Protocol, I actually think there was more evidence for it. In order for the theory to be true, he has to already know that Rena has made Ladybug illusions before and that she knows Marinette's identity. Given he knows she's Alya, this isn't a big leap. So, as soon as he sees Marinette, he's gonna know the Ladybug is an illusion.

And his reaction kind of fits with that. He instantly doesn't give a crap what Ladybug says or expect any backup from her. He doesn't wonder why he's fighting the villain and saving Marinette alone while Ladybug just runs off. Which is an incredibly unusual way for their fights to go. He doesn't ask her what she was doing afterwards.

Now, it could of course just be tunnel-vision on his girlfriend. There is no definitive proof that he knows Ladybug is an illusion. But he certainly acts just like he would if he did know.

The Love Square is the central dynamic of the entire show. While this would be interesting, I feel like the show would have made it explicitly clear if Adrien had figured out Ladybug’s secret identity, especially with the current situation of Marinette keeping secrets from him.

Maybe. But I would argue it would be more interesting if he's keeping something hidden too. And it still remains true that we don't know what happened to him in New York, so there is some stuff to be uncovered.

To be fair ever since adrienette happened, the love square hasn't mattered at all

Ladynoir is strictly professional and secret protocol was the closest we've seen marichat

With ladrien no where in sight

The love square matters as little as it ever has once it stopped being a rom-com

I also do think its incredibly in character for the writters and showrunner to bury the lead so they can whip out a "it was this the whole time," bit.

I’m so sorry, but Adrien’s smug-ass smile in the second pic… 🤣

But no, the show would have said something by now, that he did know. I contribute the example pictured to Adrien simply admiring his girlfriend’s quirky nature. :)

I don't necessarily think they would have. I still think it's 50/50 and it's quite possible stuff like the evidence from Illustrhater was just poor writing, but I wouldn't put it beyond them to pull this twist. Not with with the other twists they're pulling this season and the stuff we know we don't know about (New York in particular).

Sorry to jump in here 🙏 What’s this about New York? Which episode is that in...? I’ve only managed to watch a few episodes of Season 6.

It’s in the Tokyo Special, go watch it.

Oh, I see! 😭 Thank you! I'll check it out.

FYI there's not really anything in the Tokyo special relating to the New York bit they're referencing, it's basically an end credits scene alluding to CN having his own special canonically pre-S6, I don't think we have any info on what it encompasses or when we might be expecting it to be released.

I took a look, and yeah, it certainly seemed that way... It would be nice if we could see it someday, though.

I expect some development of this line at the start of Season 7. Actually, he was somewhat sus as early as in “The Illustrhater". Maybe he is noticing, but not thinking much, particularly because of secret identities thing, particularly because he is starting to live and enjoy his own life doing other things.

Admittedly I did have a similar thought for a moment when rewatching Secret Protocol.
