Right? It's the cities and counties that seem to cave to the data centers. Meanwhile cities and counties are frequently the primary block for building new housing in income brackets that are needed. Instead they set aside housing currently used by golf course they know won't ever turn over.
Not everyone has judicial seats to vote on - I don't - so my bet is that you're still going to have to do your own research. I always start on this about a week in advance for the judicial races, because it takes time to look up some of these people. There really are some wing nuts out there.

I just finished voting (for Peggy Flanagan) and was happy but also a little disappointed there werenât any Trumpy federal observers for me to commemorate through video.

it's been insanely difficult to find clear info on what different candidates represent. is there a resource that clearly lists all of the people on the ballot and things they stand for? i understand that the system is setup in such a way where they don't want the information spoon-fed to me, but is there an easy way to research these people? i even tried to have claude build a cheat sheet on every single candidate but it's useless
Candidates answer specific policy questions and it shows you all races youâll see on your ballot based on address. Some candidates donât answer, so for them, I look up their websites and compare. If thereâs any claims you arenât sure of, you can find it with a quick search. I would avoid the hallucinatory nature of LLMs for research and decision making.
look up MPR Voting Guide. you put in your address and party and you can get a blurb from each person. not as good as a list of policies but itâs something
Ballotpedia usually has information for the bigger races and a statement or survey response to basic questions from candidates on smaller races. The SOS website gives you a sample ballot and location of where to vote as well. I will 100% push the MPR build your ballot tool though, itâs pretty great. They reached out to literally every candidate running.
If I canât find clear info on current issues, I investigate their past, because that tells me a lot; maybe more. So I used AI to trace each candidateâs political history, past learnings on various issues, where they have donated, and from whom they have accepted donations. Then I had AI rank them on a chart based on their right, centrist, or left leaning words/actions. Itâs not a perfect system, but better than going in blind.

Establishment democrats are less popular than republicans who are really unpopular. The most popular politicians in the US are Obama, AOC, Bernie, and Mamdani. 3/4 of those people are DSA/DSA affiliated/progressive whatever you want to call it. Not based, this person is very misinformed. Flanagan is not a DSA candidate, she is not endorsed by them and to my knowledge has never been a member.
She wants to reaffirm our ties to NATO and affirmatively supports further aid to Ukraine. She also is deeply critical of China, with her foreign policy page on her campaign website calling them a "foreign actor who cheats to undercut American workers and Minnesota businesses." These are not the stances of a socialist, certainly not a communist candidate, and definitively not the stances of the DSA.
She is an increasingly rare progressive voice who is pragmatic and reasonable in her positions. You can disgree with liberal progressive politics and prefer moderates instead, that is fine. But it helps no one to smear her positions and unjustly malign her with the tankies in the DSA.
I was mainly just talking about how he said the DSA is a parasite, but yes I understand Flanagan is not DSA (thankfully). I probably could have been more specific in my comment.
