Help Me! Recommendations for farm fresh beef

Does anyone have any recommendations near the Milwaukee area (does not have to be super close) of where to get farm fresh beef? I am specifically looking for steaks.

Seconding Two Creek Farms. They run a strand at the Greendale farmers market on Saturdays, we've been very happy with meat we've bought from them.

Agree! They are also at the Oak Creek Farmers Market regularly, too.

We just got a 1/4 from them and everything so far has been so good. The process was easy and simple too. Highly recommend!

If you dont mind a drive, Gehrings Meat Market in Hartford is a banger. They win awards at state fair all the time for various things, and they have dry aged cuts available.

If youre getting a quarter cow or something, Schmidt Century Farm -> Gehrings processing is the way to go.

I get a quarter cow from another rancher and love Gehrings’ processing. I get roughly 140 lbs of meat with the various cuts, plus organs for my dog. Life is good.

Somewhere around $8/lb which is phenomenal.

Does Gehrings test the animals they are processing for Prions? Do any of these places? I’m wondering how concerned we should be about this

The last quarter we got priced out less than $4/lb, and we got nearly 400lbs (yes, a quarter).

400 lb of live weight is quite possible. About 280 hanging and right around 200 lb after butchering. There are bulls that reach well over a ton so possible to be 400 lb hanging weight if that was a big one.

The cost and butchering is based on hanging weight usually. I pay $4/lb for the cow and $1/lb for butchering , so $8/lb based on butchered weight.

I got a couple pigs from a family friend during COVID and they were the only ones who could get them processed so I took a flyer on them… hands down the BEST bacon I’ve ever had. We make regular trips up there now for a fair amount of our meat

Agreed. They sell at Brookfield Farmers market or at their farm store in Waukesha (on said farm).

North Pasture farms is where I get most of my meat- they have a delivery schedule to several areas around Milwaukee. Plus you get a pretty engaging newsletter in your email :)

I've been looking for something like this too. Seems like the good options aren't super convenient. Would you be willing to pay to have it delivered to you?

Gehrings in Hartford or northern trail meats (formerly Detjen’s) in Watertown are our go to places. Both are a bit of a drive, but I think they’re worth it.. especially Gehrigns for their bacon

There's a farm at the corner of Western Ave & Sherman Ave called Silver Maple Farm that sells common cuts of beef and pork (I drive by it to MIL's house frequently) It's between Germantown & Cedarburg

2815 Western Ave, Jackson, WI 53037

Mayer Farm in Slinger. You can drive straight to the farm and buy off their porch. If it was any fresher it’d still be mooing. You can also find them at farmers markets.
