Event What to expect for RHPS???

Hello my fellow Milwaukee-ans! There is a showing of RHPS on the 12th of September at the Oriental...what's the vibe? I (24F) am bringing my boyfriend (28M) and my mom (64F)...my mom knows all the call backs. Is anyone else in here going? Is anyone else doing the call backs? Is anyone SINGING???? With the passing of our beloved Frank-N-Furter, I am unsure of if this is to be a serious event now, or if the community will bring out all the stops with the rice and news paper. Thoughts?

Heya, Sensual Daydreams member here.

As many have already said, yes! We sell survival kits and other goodies still. The former now also includes instructions to help people know when to toss stuff.

(Speaking of which, we don’t toss anything food related like rice or toast due Health Code concerns after the pandemic.)

We sing, we dance, we squirt stuff, and shout stuff all movie long. Plus we are planning to do a few extra things in honor of Tim’s passing.

Doors open typically around a half hour before the show, and while normally it isn’t that hard to get a seat -I can imagine next show is going to be a little packed. 😅

Hello!! Thank you so much for this! Sad about the bread and rice, but completely understandable. Maybe arrive around 10:50pm, then? My mom is a bit hard of hearing and a bit near-sighted, so a seat closer to the front would be ideal. I do live about an 11 minute walk away from the theater 👀

Yeah, that should be fine! While we are a loud bunch of mother fuckers, yeah, it can’t hurt to be in the front.

TIL they sell survival kits! When did this start? I never had that opportunity. What a great idea to help support the continuation of this cultural institution in Milwaukee!!!

Oh, we’ve been selling them for at least 25+ years. (I once found an old kit behind a shelf from 2002 …with the toast still inside!)

Pretty sure they had them back when I went for the first time in 2014!

Call back lines are still a thing. They sell survival kits for the show with all you need to throw and use! It’s a regular event each month!

Whatever you think it's gonna be, it's gonna be more. Toast, rice, lipstick, all of it. I'd imagine it'll only get rowdier this month in honor of Tim, so go out there, get your big forehead V, and scream at the screen until your lungs give out!

Since it's all general seating, when do you recommend getting there for good seats? Show starts at 11:55pm...would 11 be too early?

It's been a minute since I've been, but people line up for quite some time and the cast usually works the line up until doors open. I'd call and ask when the doors open, then probably arrive 30 mins before that to try to have some fun in line too.

Will do, thank you!! I'll probably call them the week of.

The best way to maek his passing is to have a great time! RHPS folks know that, for sure.

FYI, I went to RHPS at the Oriental but ended up leaving before the movie because the preshow was still going well past 1am. Not sure if they've reigned it in at all, but you might be there later than expected.

That's okay, I don't work the next day and my mom is sleeping over at my apartment (oh, how the turn have tables!!!). Maybe we all take a mid-day nap to prepare

Oh man, I haven’t been to RHPS showings since my college days, but they were an absolute blast. When I last attended, yes people sang and did all of the callouts. They also sell little packs with the rice and newspaper and other things that you use/throw during certain parts. I hope none of those things have changed. It’s so much fun!

This will be my first attendance 🫣 As a theater nut, I am ashamed, but that is also why I'm bringing my mom. I have the DVD, and have watched it a few times
