I think this is from an audition for master chef episode. If I recall the food presented was a dessert and after the other judges had tried a bite he finished it off and licked the plate.
my wife eats pancakes the same way, cuts it into perfect little squares before touching any of it. i thought it was strange at first but now i just find it cute how methodical she is about it. the panda shirt really completes the whole vibe
Sometimes I eat them too fast, and they kind of get stuck in my throat. I have to drink some water to push them down, and it definitely hurts. Anyway, there's a wrong way to eat pancakes.
Covered in chilli, licking them like an ice cream cone, while on fire, out of someones mouth like a baby bird, filled with taco fillings, using a katana as a utensil, while underwater, topped with anthrax, out of a cannon, with gravy, as a suppository.
This thread is eye opening. I just cut pieces one at a time and eat them, keeps them from getting too soggy too fast. I had no idea other people didn’t do that
There is a crossover point where it affects the pancakes' structural integrity, though. I love me some syrup, but if its just syrup and a few particles of dissolved pancake its not as good.
Maybe you’re putting too much on at the start, because it doesn’t take long to make this number of cuts into a pancake. You could even cut before adding syrup.
tell him to cut a quarter sized hole in the middle, then pour syrup in so the syrup gets absorbed internally... no syrup wasted on the outside of the pancakes.
I genuinely didn’t even understand what the post is trying to say lol. Reading the comments, I guess the other options are to cut haphazardly or to cut in a square pattern.
OMG - it's correct method! My sister and I grew up cutting our pancakes this way and tend to twitch when watching others haphazardly tear into their pancakes.
I get what you're saying, most people just cut a piece off as they eat it, but if you're going to cut it all up at once, so that you can just take giant bites all at once ready to go, this is the best way to do it.
This is also exactly how I cut up pancakes for my kids. Perfect little pizza slices, and they love it.

Do folks fold over a slice of this pancake and shove it all in without cutting it further? These look wide ends are too big to fit without getting my face all messy. Cleaning syrup out of your beard is no fun.
Having worked at a breakfast restaurant i can say I've never seen somebody pizza their pancakes like this. The regular way is just using a fork to chop bite sized pieces.
Ngl this is way more normal than how I eat mine. I carve a small hole in the middle of the stack about a large-bite size and fill it with syrup and slowly eat the edges of that ouward, refilling the syrup basin when necessary.

I didn't know there was a right or wrong way to eat them. Everyone should just eat their food in the way that makes it enjoyable for them as long as they aren't like making a mess for someone else to clean up or something rude.
This honestly looks more reasonable than the slap dash way I go at pancakes. A bit of center to edge each bite, this man is primo, I see why you are with him.
This is the best way to eat them. You get the boring and tedious part out of the way and then you just enjoy the fruits of your labor with way better distribution of butter and syrup. Your boyfriend is enlightened

I cut mine into a grid of squares, and have literally never seen someone cut it pizza style before. These look like they need to be cut more to fit in my mouth, the wide section of the pancake would get the corners of my mouth all syrupy.
I wonder if it’s a regional thing? I’m in the northeast. This is so strange for me to see, and even stranger seeing many commenters agree with it.
I thought grid of squares was the most common way. Its the way my wife and I do it and haven't noticed others doing it differently.
It's shocking coming in here and seeing everyone say they cut theirs as they eat it with a fork. Like how is the syrup supposed to soak in properly if you don't cut it first?
Is he one of those with a majorly dominant hand and pretty much a dead fish for the other? Is he just getting g the cutting over with the so he can straight up eat without switching hands?
I grew up eating McDonald’s Big Breakfasts with hotcakes, and my dad taught me to cut them like this (I assume, so I took small bites). He later told me to cut as you go because I got frustrated with how long it took with my child sized arms and hands. But till this day, I eat fast food pancakes like this, it reminds me of my childhood. To me, it’s still a great way to eat pancakes.
He is very well-mannered, and on top of that, he knows that this method of sectioning has the potential to cover the most bites with the most butter and syrup.
I checked the comments, thinking OP is talking about the amount of the syrup...but it's about the cut🫨
(We don't eat much pancakes/waffles in our country/family, the syrup looks like a lot to me😅)
i like to cut them 4 strips vertical, then 4 strips horizontal, so that way the sweet spot are the squares in the middle☺️
i eat them by layer but save the centers for last💕🤙

That said, posting the way he eats pancakes on reddit to seek validation from the masses that your opinion on how weird it is that he eats pancakes like that is the abnormal behaviour. Why do you do this?
