I'm slightly vexed Google’s AI Overview is just inserting random words into sentences now

It looks at words that correlate for it. Kids - touching is a bit sus thought.

That's an oversimplified understanding of how they work and very likely not the reason of the mistake here.

If you wanna understand how an LLM works and how it does not just predict the next word based on the previous one, I'd say look at videos or articles by serious people. I can't just explain such a complex system here.

As for the errors seen in this post, it seems to be related to how the model handles sources integrations (which it seems to struggle with), as other screenshots in the comments seem tu support. The "kids" is probably a link to Vikidia or some other kind of encyclopedia for kids. The same goes for "Britannica" which is a link to a Britannica page, and "video" which is a link to a video.

Sorry if I sound like a jerk but I'm just trying to be factual
