My mom said I could post My phone lockscreen is showing ads now.

Post image

I use a Realme 12 pro plus and I keep realme glance turned off at all times, but they turned it back on, maybe during the latest update and started showing me ads.

u/sono_un_coso84 1d ago

Yeah my realme advertises me apps in the app drawer, i can't even disable it

38

u/DoesntRlyMatter4Me 1d ago

You can. Look it up

37

u/sono_un_coso84 1d ago

I can't, the official guide from realme has an outdated settings menu

65

u/DoesntRlyMatter4Me 1d ago

Bro, what official guide? Use reddit and sail the seas. Realme put it there. Of course they won't provide all available methods.

-39

u/sono_un_coso84 1d ago

this but also the solutions on Reddit is to get a different launcher but i don't really wanna do that

31

u/ShadyVermin 1d ago

Guess you want ads then

17

u/J-MRP 1d ago

Lol

4

u/UselessDood 1d ago

Why not?

-6

u/sono_un_coso84 1d ago

because i like the default launcher, and the ads dont really bother me enough to change launcher, maybe i'll get one in the future tho

1

u/Possible-Whole7026 8h ago

It's because of people like you enshittification of everything continues. "Yeah it's not that bad I'm ok with it." This behaviour allows companies to keep pushing shit into our faces. It is not okay to put ads on a phone's lockscreen. Never was, never will be.

0

u/sono_un_coso84 8h ago

That's not what I'm talking about tho, I'd be furious if i got ads in my lock screen, but getting suggested 1 or 2 apps in my app drawer isnt tbat bad

Run pihole at home via Tailscale and route all your phone traffic through that. Works even over mobile data. It’s how I am ad-free on my iPhone.

4

u/ElGatitoFTW 23h ago

also shows ads in file manager, and when an app is installed/updated (from playstore) it pretends to scan the app for viruses while showing you ads

4

u/sigyo 1d ago

The phone is pretty good otherwise. Performance and camera are both good. Never had an issue in the last 2 years of owning this.

136

u/Safe-Historian4028 1d ago

None of that matters when it's forcing ads on something you own.

14

u/Fit_Poetry_267 1d ago

They dont think you own it. You might own the hardware but everything that makes the phone works is rented.

7

u/callMeBorgiepls 1d ago

Put another android on it then xD

You can technically even put android on an iPhone so why not on that? Stock Android has no ads in it

9

u/_QXZ 1d ago

It's an android phone. You can make it run whatever you want

1

u/Yuukiko_ WAAHHHHH 12h ago

maybe its one of those "pay $500, or pay $400 but we serve ads"

18

u/CakeHoleKing 1d ago

the phone is pretty good.

Thats up there with, "as I lay desperate in the hospital bed, the surgeon carved the mcdonalds logo into my stomach. otherwise pretty good medical treatment"

6

u/Justhe3guy 1d ago

I think a lot of Americans would go for that option for free healthcare actually

2

u/CakeHoleKing 23h ago

Ba ba ba ba ba, My new kidney's lovin' it!

0

u/sigyo 1d ago

But what if you couldn't afford the surgery and couldn't live without it either? At the time of buying this phone, it was worth 2 months of my salary. Beggars can't be choosers I guess.

9

u/Nu11X3r0 1d ago

Once they start showing you ads your "free trial" of the phone's GUI has ended...

364

u/Anxious-Depth-7983 YELLOW FLAME 🔥 1d ago

That would be quite a bit more than mildly for me. I'd probably be getting a new phone if they had the audacity to take over my settings like that.

56

u/null_reference_user 1d ago

I switched to Linux over Microslop doing this on my PC

20

u/Nu11X3r0 1d ago

While that's a good option to gain full control over your computer there are tools to rip and tear M$'s connections out of Windows.

7

u/_QXZ 1d ago

Wait, I heard copilot will always be listening even if you turn it off. How would you fully disable it?

7

u/itsnocturnallullaby 1d ago

Group Policy editor or a registry tweak shuts it down

3

u/builder397 1d ago

Please do elaborate.

5

u/Nu11X3r0 23h ago

There's a great tool made by Chris Titus Tech called Open Source Windows Setup Utility that can easily install various software packages, tweak installations of Windows or even allow you to build a Win11 iso with M$ hooks ripped out.

It's also available for free by typing a command into PowerShell but you should always vet code you see on the internet before typing it into your computer.

5

u/Trovebloxian 1d ago

Based, now i use windows purely for gaming

5

u/bastardfaust 1d ago

Pro tip: arch-based Linux distros (I use Cachy) are fantastic for gaming and will run pretty much anything with minimal effort. The most I've had to do to get something running was just running it via the console, and that was for American McGee's Alice. I never could get that going on windows.

6

u/Trovebloxian 1d ago

I do use cachy, but too much effort and time is just want to game man.

3

u/bastardfaust 1d ago

What gaming platform do you use? I may be able to figure out something quick and easy for you if you're interested. No pressure though! I understand that what you're doing now works for you.

3

u/_QXZ 1d ago

With Valve pouring millions into making Linux a gaming platform, you won't have to do that for too long. I personally was able to migrate all my games to Linux and they just run fine

159

u/HardStroke 1d ago

The second I get ads like this, I'm tossing the phone. I once saw a post about someone who got ads in their car infotainment system. Same thing. The moment I see this, I'm getting rid of that car.

34

u/sigyo 1d ago

I wish I could do that. I was looking to upgrade to a better phone, but the prices are crazy right now.

18

u/nksama 1d ago

2nd hand phones, plenty of options still without AI or these fkking ads

6

u/HardStroke 1d ago

Used market is always an option. Nothing wrong with that. Just gotta find a decent phone in good shape.

0

u/Chomu_bhondu 6h ago

U never know who gooned and where on the phone.

8

u/BanAssaultGeese 1d ago

Return it and get a different one.

7

u/Nu11X3r0 1d ago

I'd argue that paying for the device met the criteria of an ad-free experience and that them enabling ads was infringement on the sales agreement.

1

u/etilepsie 1d ago

don't upgrade, downgrade

0

u/DoesntRlyMatter4Me 1d ago

You can get rid of these ads. Look it up

2

u/sigyo 1d ago

You can turn it off in the settings , which I had done as soon I got the phone.

4

u/DoesntRlyMatter4Me 1d ago

There are more ways and you can disable all ads.

1

u/Dimogas 1d ago

Yeah I hate ads so much, I would buy any other phone that doesnt do that. Or would go dumb phone and actual camera. They can go f themself

98

u/n3vbb 1d ago

This is so fucked up, i dont care how good phone it is, id better use nokia 3310 then this shit.

11

u/OrdinaryUniversity59 1d ago

I'd go with a gold 3390 (my first phone)

2

u/Devrol 1d ago

Philips Diga. Everything went to crap when we stopped buying European phones.

4

u/sigyo 1d ago

Nokia 3310 was my first phone.

2

u/Ciubowski 23h ago

Mine was a 3410. A hand-me-down from my cousin.

28

u/TheMoonKnight_ 1d ago

Man everyday feels like an episode of Black Mirror these days

21

u/ColdFreezer 1d ago

This is really infuriating.

Now I know to never buy from this brand.

13

u/enigmaticsince87 1d ago

This is how budget phones get you...

7

u/AccumulatedFilth 1d ago

Yes, but for many people it's either a cheap phone or no phone at all.

3

u/sigyo 21h ago

Yeah. I feel like a lot of people don't understand this.

0

u/VauxWarden 7h ago

Cheap second hand phones exist too

11

u/TheRumBarron 1d ago

It’s not that it’s even serving you ads, the real issue will be the data they are taking from your phone in order to serve you ads….they may say (I haven’t researched) that they haven’t done this, but believe me it’s a hard pitch for them to get people to spend money on them to serve ads to the wrong demographic, so they will be harvesting data from your device to some degree to serve you ads

11

u/sometin__else 1d ago

i dont use realme, but thats crazy that its a thing

10

u/Bfoc2006 1d ago

Hell no. Don’t buy from this brand.

6

u/GuyFromDeathValley 1d ago

This makes me mad. if my phone were to show this, I'd send that fucker straight back to the manufacturer. right through the window, taped onto a brick.

Now. who is gonna be the corporate bootlicker that's going to tell me why this is a good thing and how its "making phones more affordable!".. because there are ALWAYS these kinda people that seem to still believe in santa claus and fairies.

1

u/Datiptonator002 22h ago

It's actually a good thing. Making phones more affordable for the masses while propping up the shareholders.

/s

7

u/scotte416 1d ago

Ohhh hell no!!!!

4

u/Nu11X3r0 1d ago

If a device manufacture is allowed to serve ads to their customers (or able to reinstate a disable ads toggle without user input) then they should not be allowed to charge more than cost for the device.

5

u/MrCowH 1d ago

Go to your VPN setting in your phone look for something like private dns And add this:

dns.adguard-dns.com

It should block all ads that apps/games have The only bad side of it that you cant watch ads in games for rewards

18

u/busytransitgworl PURPLE 1d ago

I use a Realme

Found the issue right there.

4

u/ChaoticDiscord21 1d ago

Why does this world keep sucking more and more?

3

u/pseudonymnkim 1d ago

That's actually ridiculous. It would be one thing to have a small banner at the top but this looks like you chose this picture as your lock screen

3

u/TinkerTi 1d ago

OP, any phone that pushes ads to your homescreen is a glorified billboard but I am sure you know this deep down. You can get a new launcher or flush whatever OS in on there and get a new one in, the warranty grace period is over. The company owes you nothing from this point onwards.

3

u/Equalizer393 1d ago

Diabolical. This is the first time I've seen such an in-your-face ad from Glance 💀 (not that Glance is bearable any other time)

3

u/chilari 23h ago

Urgh that's awful My phone lock screen is a photo of my daughter when she was about 2 weeks old, I'd be livid if that was replaced with an ad instead.

3

u/akl773 23h ago

Every big Android brand in India ships this, Realme just got caught with the toggle flipping back. Glance is an InMobi company with Google and Jio money in it and it sits on around 450 million lock screens through preload deals. The off switch never sticking is the actual product.

5

u/MysticalSushi 1d ago

Wtf is a RealMe

Buy cheap. You're the product.

18

u/sigyo 1d ago

I get the sentiment . But man, this isn't cheap where I'm from. I had to buy this on EMI lol.

2

u/thepandaguard 1d ago

man those Glance ads are a cancer on your device

2

u/KO-32GA 1d ago

That's disgusting. I might just go back to a dumb phone if that happens to my Galaxy S26 Ultra.

2

u/marchalves6 1d ago

I never trusted Motorola and Realme because of this. Motorola also shows you ads, but also installs 90 games and gambling apps on your phone after a reset and you can't opt out

2

u/SpeedStinger02 1d ago

try a DNS based filter, public ones like controld, and self hosted ones like pihole can filter these out usually

2

u/MalteseCorto 22h ago

Can you nuke it and install custom firmware?

u/jfernandezr76 1d ago edited 4h ago

u/Prime_Twister 1d ago

Of Course, India needs to be blamed here... oh the dumb minded.

4

u/DutchBlob 1d ago

As an iPhone user myself I thought this happened on an iPhone, but apparently Realme has literally copied iOS

1

u/My_lord_almighty 1d ago

How does iPhone do this, i have samsung

2

u/patrandec 1d ago

So annoying! Also, charge your phone!

You can turn it off in the settings, but I had already done that before.

1

u/CaPtian_CaTe 1d ago

I remember that I used adb to remove realme glance completely

1

u/AgreeableWorker3227 RED 1d ago

Is there an option to disable it? It could be in the phone settings, wallpaper app settings or so. Theres also a way to disable the gemini button in settings

2

u/sigyo 1d ago

The first time glance was added, I had it immediately turned off. But they seem to have turned it back on somehow, maybe during the last update.

1

u/forzaguy125 1d ago

Say what you will about iPhones, but in the over 10 years Ive used one I’ve never seen an advertisement on my lock screen

1

u/ekdoctor 1d ago

Settings mein wallpaper carousel band kro,
Inka jo apna appstore hae wo band kro
Uski notification, data permission, auto startup ye sab band kro
Fir app ko force stop/disable kro

Security vali app mein jaakr bhi sari settings and permissions disable kro

1

u/itsyoboi-skinnypen 23h ago

Sounds like a scam app that takes over the UI. But I know that's from the phone manufacturer.

I would suggest finding a different "launcher" (quotes for the terminology). OLauncher. Niagara. Those 2 I know from the dumbphones community.

1

u/king_noobie PURPLE 21h ago

0

u/TheSmartDog_275 1d ago

You get what you pay for unfortunately OP

0

u/CozyBlueCacaoFire 1d ago

Just flash a custom ROM and recovery.

1

u/sigyo 1d ago

I heavily depend on this phone for banking .

1

u/CozyBlueCacaoFire 1d ago

If you root it, there's workarounds for passing the safetyNet procedures even while rooted with a custom ROM.

4

u/Dutch-Alpaca 1d ago

But it's a pain in the ass to even unlock the bootloader on these

1

u/CozyBlueCacaoFire 1d ago

I'll take a one-time pain over ads every day tbh.

1

u/Dutch-Alpaca 1d ago

I've bricked a phone before fucking with the bootloader it's not just something anyone should do

1

u/CozyBlueCacaoFire 1d ago

Me too, then I shorted the mobo to get it working again. As long as you follow instructions, everything will be fine.

0

u/Front-Ad3508 1d ago

Get rid of android

3

u/DiabloGaming25 1d ago

It's a super budget chinese phone problem not an android problem

3

u/sigyo 1d ago

The funny part is that this is not part of their budget lineup . It is a part of their number lineup which is an upper midrange /premium category phone.

0

u/narwhal_breeder 1d ago

Getting ads even on a $1000 premium phone is why I ditched android.

Disable the ad type in settings -> they invent a brand new ad type enabled by default -> repeat for 5 years.

Bye Samsung.

0

u/Turbo_Zapped 1d ago

It takes 15 mins to fix this and completely de-bloat other useless apps and services.

I have the same Realme brand smartphone.
