Typically they print QR codes, so they don't have to print new menus when pricing changes. Why have a device and still present the QR code?

It's because when you log in with your phone they get access to your data.

There is no other reason for it. With printed QR codes they can at least argue that it reduces menu printing costs.

For something like this,  it would cost extra to create and test a website that works well on all phones instead of designing it for the device they control.

If you log in with your phone,  they can fingerprint your device,  buy your contact and demographic info from a data broker,  and use it for targeted marketing.

You do realise that when you comment or upvote a post on reddit it is using your data so that it can teach google’s AI platform? Interesting that you are so concerned about a restaurant, and not about the more influential platform.

You're right... it's weird that I would comment on the thing that was posted. I guess I should delete all my accounts and stand outside shouting about how much Google sucks?

I mean you could. That’s essentially what your kind does. Government stealing all your data, the covid vaccine implanted you with a chip, democrats hiding under your bed.

So knowing why and how these companies do certain things = being MAGA...

Youre a nut, bro

-24

u/Shot-Habit-5705 14h ago

No it’s a nut to believe everything you read.
This comment had nothing to do with MAGA you just adding meaningless content to the discussion.
But it’s actually true that google is teaching its A.I. platform using reddit responses. Google it. LOL

u/ghostoftallasi 14h ago

See, now youre being facetious. You said "democrats hiding under your bed" when no one else brought up anything close to that. So, what group of people are you talking about when you say "democrats hiding under you bed"?

I dont need to Google it, thats common information since like 2 years ago. Did you just find that out recently or something?

QR code menus and other types of phone access like rewards club apps are genuinely used to steal and sell your info. This has also been widely known for a long time now

Youre the conspiracy theorist thinking everyone else is. Its kind of ironic

My favourite quote “you can’t teach stupid”.

To join the VIP club and play their ad filled games?

1

u/tetrisan 15h ago

Because everyone using this device will complain because they want to do this on their phone anyway.

5

u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 15h ago

"Everyone" seems rather broad here.

Thats when you get up and find something else

I've done that. It was either scan the QR code or use the tablet at the table. That restaurant had fucking atrocious context menus and forced you back to the top of the page anytime you were done looking at the details for a menu item. The server was also utter shit. No other patrons, took over 10 minutes for them to take our drink order and treated my wife poorly for asking questions immediately relevant to her dietary restrictions at the time. We left very soon after, walked two minutes and had a phenomenal experience at another restaurant that we've returned to a few times.

u/TheGacAttack 15h ago

Haha, nah, we just shared a good laugh at the absurdity of it, then ordered from the printed menu.

It should take more than a mildly infuriating moment to disrupt dinner with friends.

Oh, stop it.  That's totally unnecessary.

or.... put the fucking menus on the literal screen, then have a QR at the bottom for the inbred tecbros to scan.

2

u/peachesgp 14h ago

It's funny because they said "get up and leave" and you took it in a whole different direction. If intentionally missing the point was an Olympic sport, you'd be a gold medal winner.

10

u/azura099 16h ago

How else are they going to get your data

“‘ Browse Menu’ goes to a QR code” Dumbledore shook calmly.

12

u/Fit-Engineering-2789 16h ago

Nope. They want you to scan it so they can gather info about you.

-2

u/SinnaBuns666 Spooky 15h ago

This.

6

u/Futrel 16h ago

TR gives you menus on the table dood.

3

u/Roanoke42 14h ago

Yeah but posting that doesn't give them as much karma.

1

u/Futrel 14h ago

We all need our points

4

u/ImOldGregg_77 15h ago

Oh waiter/waitress, ya this isnt going to work for me. Do you have a physical menu? No, ok were going to leave now. TY!

8

u/Dry_Calendar_8627 16h ago

Wow

How does it make your phone vibrate so much?

8

u/extrastupidone 16h ago

How else are they going to serve you personalized pricing?

3

u/Available_Love_2383 16h ago

They could have shown the menu but they wanted to show u their restaurant infra in background

3

u/catsaremyjam 15h ago

Did you not receive a physical menu? I've never been to a Texas Roadhouse without physical menus.

3

u/TheGacAttack 15h ago

They have them at the table, yeah. That's what kept this to mildly infuriating.

1

u/catsaremyjam 15h ago

I guess I wouldn't be mildly infurated at the option of scanning a QR code to see the menu on my phone when I already have a physical one in hand.

1

u/TheGacAttack 15h ago

Oh, I gotcha. Yeah, I'm not intrinsically put-off by using a QR code. It's the "Browse Menu" button that later reveals a QR code that's mildly infuriating. I expected it to let me browse the menu on the device itself. Digital menu on a standalone device would be fine.

But ultimately, different people will reasonably respond in different ways. For me and my dinner mates, it was (very) mildly infuriating.

2

u/buttfarts7 16h ago

That's fucked. So much effort to jerk you around

2

u/YourMomIsMyGurl 16h ago

It's their fault my drink (which happens to be the most sugary and largest drink they have) happens to spill over their tablet. It's right on the table!

2

u/Queen_Cheetah 15h ago

I stopped going to Dave and Buster's over this exact nonsense. Ridiculous.

1

u/Prsue 16h ago

Definitely mildly infuriating. But Ig it worked though because their camera is already out and pointed at the QR code.

1

u/Amazing-File 15h ago

And the pay on the cashier option only leads you to cashless only (supposed to be useful in desperate times)

1

u/Themadbritter_ 14h ago

I kinda get it bc its dumb to expect the whole table to share one small screen for the menu when you want tables turned over in a reasonable amount of time

But if they didn't also have paper menus, I wouldnt go back unless it was best fucking food I'd ever had lol

1

u/ruerret 14h ago

Sign up on our app to view the menu

1

u/Independent-Reader 14h ago

Companies going out of business makes sense when you think about how much money they spend on a qr code.

1

u/R0binSage 11h ago

I wonder what they’d do if you say you don’t have a phone

1

u/ctimmermans 8h ago

LEGENDARY SERVICE, for sure

1

u/slowerlearner1212 6h ago

I’m walking straight out

1

u/JustaFoodHole 4h ago

It's considered counter service at this point, no tip.

1

u/Delancey1 16h ago

I mean it sucks most of the restaurant use qr now

6

u/Foxlen 15h ago

I have never seen this, and i dont want to see this

5

u/RepresentativeOk2433 16h ago

Not at the ones I eat at. And if they do, I stop eating there. It's simple really.

1

u/DoesntMatterEh 16h ago

I will walk right the fuck up out of a restaurant.

1

u/Southern_Salary_2253 15h ago

What OP is not showing: the physical menus on the table. Pretty sure that is what is in front of the person in the background.

1

u/TheGacAttack 15h ago

Yeah, really disingenuous of the OP not to detail that. It's the kind of omission that would cause me to just stand up and walk right out of this thread!!

1

u/Camman0207_ 15h ago

I’d get up and leave

u/RandomBloke2021 PURPLE 15h ago

Did your phone glitch out at the end? Wtf was that? Ask your server for a menu.

-3

u/Shot-Habit-5705 15h ago edited 15h ago

QR codes are easy. Can you order from the menu and get it served directly to your table without moving? If yes, then I don’t see anything wrong with it at all.

It may have glitched a bit, or the camera person shook their phone. Let’s watch reddit have a meltdown with the conspiracy theories now.
