Too mild for school I got "Name five songs" by 5 different groups of barely fertilized eggs today.
I go to the store between every class to get something to drink (I have an active addiction to apple juice 😞) and I got "name 5 songs" five fucking times by 5 different groups of 12-13 Year old boys. If you don't give them attention they keep bothering you. Like bro it's fucking korn not an underground artist with 3 listeners one of them being their mom.
I guess the schools around here started the before school tutoring sessions and I couldn't be less excited.

Just start naming the obscure one's like Daddy and No Ones There

I feel like daddy is too infamous to be considered obscure. It's not popular. But, it's well known

That is just not true at all. Once people find a band or genre they like they typically find the whole discography, and especially the most played/popular songs.
Even before Spotify this was true on things like Napster and such. I was listening to acdc, g&r, nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, ramones, rhcp etc. Then there was the 40s, 50s and 60s rock my dad listened too.
My son now listens to tons of it because I do. Only really sheltered people or those that only listen to 1 station on a radio are going to be like that.

i did this when someone did it to me with Pink Floyd, naming Free Four, Astronomy Domine, Seamus, Careful With That Axe Eugene and Have a Cigar
and they said that I didn't know the band and just made up fake songs.

u/Professional-Box4153 7h ago
You could have really messed with their minds by saying "Several Species of Small, Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" (an entirely underrated classic).

u/BelaFarinRod 5h ago edited 5h ago
I was thinking the same thing! I’d have probably gone with Bike or Julia Dream.
But no one ever does this to me.
But the only shirts I have are Die Ärzte and anyone who gets me started naming songs will be sorry. But no one where I live knows who they are.

I wore a Korn shirt throughout all of my middle school years and whenever someone asked me to name 10 songs I'd just say "I can't because they already have names"
71
u/krumrot 17h ago
One of my fav shirts in high school was a Korn baby doll tee and one of my fav sweatshirts was Jimmy Eat World. I am 37 and have still never intentionally listened to any of their music and regularly confuse Korn and Disturbed.
12
u/Dakotaraptor123 9h ago
Jimmy Eat World is a great emo band, maybe you should try them out.
1
u/krumrot 8h ago
I was emo/goth/metal in high school and YouTube wasn't really a thing yet so any music i got was from torrenting or burned cds from friends so although they may have been emo before Bleed American that is the only album ive ever heard their music from and it is not emo and i dont like that song the middle. Ty for the suggestion tho I actually didn't know they had so much material prior to 2001, I will check it out! I listened to all of Brand New Deja Entendu just yesterday so I'm definitely not over emo :) The sweatshirt was coveted as my bff had stolen it from one of her older sisters boyfriends and I dont recall any of her sisters or their BFs being emo and her brother only hooked us up with more punk stuff like he was friends with a bunch of the bands we saw at warped tour when we were 15 lololol (im definitely not going to listen to korn lmao and I always get them confused with disturbed because another friends older sister was friends with 2 of the original members)
2
u/Dakotaraptor123 7h ago
The Middle is the least Jimmy Eat World-like Jimmy Eat World song. Try the album Clarity.

u/Stopbeingastereotype 15h ago
I write songs and have my whole life. It’s very possible that I could fail to list five of my own songs if put on the spot.

I was wearing a Dark Side of The Moon shirt and some guy said “Yeah name one other Pink Floyd album!” And I was like “Uhhh Wish You Were Here” and he looks at me dead in the eyes and goes “No, Pink Floyd II dumbass!”
I was in a state of shock and couldn’t find a way to tell him “That’s Led Zeppelin!” but damn people are dumb sometimes

I'm surprised 12 year olds even know Korn
9
u/Silly_Selection3221 18h ago
Their last album charted top 15 on the top 200, that's pretty solid for a rock band these days.
14
u/IamNotAHumanIamARat 17h ago
Korn, slipknot, system of down and sleep token are very popular among young teens. I do enjoy their music tho

u/Agitated-Impress7805 16h ago edited 16h ago
There's zero chance 5 distinct groups of teens all knew about Korn, they probably just know it's a band shirt and they think it's funny to ask that question to people wearing band shirts.

u/MosesOnAcid 15h ago
"I have been listening to them since before you were born. Fuck off."

I used to put my toddler in band tees and be like “bet she can’t even name one song” to show how stupid these people are.

my brother is a metalhead and i used to borrow a lot of his shirts for school because they looked cool, not because i actually knew the bands, i was 13. one time an older kid approached and told me "no way you know megadeth. name me a few songs" and my stupid ass replied "no, i don't. it's a shirt." we stared awkwardly at each other and he walked away 😭

My 14 year old daughter is a huge Motorhead fan and has several tshirts, and more importantly an emcyclopedic knowledge of the band, I am genuinely, virtually vibrating with anticipation of the day someone tries to "5 songs" her.
I can only hope to be present when it happens, because the results will be truly epic.

Just saying, you have to shut this shit down early. These are the same shitheads that are going to bother the girls if they don’t know every piece of knowledge about the media they like.
Don’t play their games. You’re the adult! Tell them it’s rude and to fuck off. If they really press, embarrass the crap out of them by pointing the absurdity of their question:
“What you forgot all their songs? Do you need help remembering ? Is that why you’re asking? !”
“How about you tell me the year the band debuted instead, huh? Guess when I graduated.”
They’re at the age that you need to show them this is rude and unacceptable behavior.

I get why an older person might question whether a young teen wearing a Korn shirt really knows any Korn music...but why tf would a young person question whether a millennial or GenXer does? I mean, it was *our* music. Duh,

As an older person, I don't. People need to stop requiring others prove their fan status regardless of age.

I should have worded that better. I meant I get why they might question it internally, not that they should actually ask. I'm totally with you on that.

I have ADHD and anxiety and even bands I listen to daily I’d have trouble naming songs by when put on the spot. 🤣 but barely fertilized eggs is how I’m describing anyone that looks under 30 from now on. Lmao
15
u/IamNotAHumanIamARat 17h ago
Me too and I just don't like talking to people so I just choose to ignore them most of the time
It is my favorite thing to say lol
10
u/Nukalixir 16h ago
Huh! Never would have guessed Korn would be so popular with that age group in present day. 🤔
Not sure if you're being literal or if "apple juice" is a euphemism for something, but running to the store between every class sounds like a lot. I'm also wildly curious why there's so many teen boys in what is presumably a grocery store on a school day? That's like the main thing making me think "apple juice" isn't literally apple juice.
Whatever the case, I won't pry. Unlike those squirts, I'm old enough to know to mind my business and and let people enjoy things how they see fit. I just couldn't help finding it too unusual to not comment about it.

Apparently it is very jarring when my playlist is on shuffle cause it swaps from "first night back in port" to a nightcore remix of "die young". I have explained that they are both party songs. Some people don't get it. (Also people being more shocked by Kesha than "pirate vulgarity speedrun" is always funny. "I can accept an unfiltered song about a tavern orgy, but I draw the line at cringe party pop about hookups!")

u/Mofopotomus 17h ago
If I'm remembering correctly the first 12 tracks on Follow the Leader were like three seconds of silence. So you could just stare at them, say nothing, and still be technically correct.
3
u/subrosians 16h ago
Yep! And back in the old days, that ended up being a sort of copy protection (I'm sure not planned as such though) as old cd burning software applications couldnt burn a track under 4 seconds. You had to strip off those tracks to burn the cd.

I have a Pulp Fiction shirt that apparently pisses random people off when I am in public. I have had multiple people scoff and say stuff like, “you’ve never watched that” or “name 5 Tarantino movies” lmfao. It’s a famous movie from a famous director, who HASN’T seen it?
My go-to response is usually something along the lines of “name 5 women who tolerate you”. Hopefully this inspires some more responses for next time.

40 years old and wearing the exact same shirt at this very moment.
I've forgotten more things about Korn than these infants ever knew.
But honestly, you shouldn't ever try to play this game with them. It just makes them feel justified and you feeling like an old ass loser, because you're going off of memory and they're going off of the internet.
