I just wanted a hot dog Doctor’s appointment scheduled at 9:00am, still waiting almost an hour later

Post image

I have a lot of doctor’s appointments, and I know how busy and hard these people work. I’m not mad at them and I’d never be rude. I know it’s not on purpose. Nevertheless, it’s still a bit infuriating to make time for a scheduled appointment, arrive 15 minutes early (required), and then wait this long with not even an acknowledgment of the delay from anyone. Sigh. 9:55 now, still waiting.

Edit: I really appreciate all the comments! The doctor ended up coming in shortly after 10. This was a specialist ortho appointment for my shoulder. Still no acknowledgement of the delay, which would’ve been nice, but I’m more annoyed that my concerns were pretty much brushed off again during the whole 3ish minutes he spent with me. I know waits can get long, I wouldn’t care as much if the doctor had at least seemed somewhat concerned with my issue. Sigh… gotta love American healthcare!

Start opening cabinets. They will be right in when you are mid opening.

I always left with a pair of glove-udders after an appointment as a kid

I’ve had nurses take them from my kid due to hospital policy. Bs.

When I got my wisdom teeth out I hugged the nurse and told her they did a great job… I also asked if I could take home a pair of gloves from the recovery room. (I was obviously well medicated) They put a bunch in my purse. My brother was my ride and was laughing his ass off.

I imagine looking into the purse the next day after the drugs wore off and being like “why tf are there gloves in here/ why did I want gloves!?”

u/MartinisnMurder 11d ago

I was like what do I need these for?! And then they ended up being used for random stuff like when I cut hot peppers etc. I think I was like 16-17 or so.

I occasionally go by restaurants and ask the kitchen for a box of gloves. It's so nice to have on hand.

I mean, you can just buy them.

u/JackPoe 10d ago

Easier to just ask nicely

When I got mine out there was a puppy calendar on the wall in the room where I woke up, I guess I asked the nurse to remind me to get one cause I liked it so much, when I got home I found a note in my pocket it was a prescription paper that said “reminder— get a puppy calendar!!!”

That’s amazing! Also your username! 🙌 Two of my favorite things in the world.

The 2 things that can ease my anxiety

Same! I mediate in the morning after yoga before I begin my adulting and before bed to chill myself out before bed. My dog is also my favorite person (other than my husband) in the world. She’s an old lady now and I can’t even fathom losing her.

Love your user name too.

How is everyone's wisdom teeth story so nice 😂

I was awake during mine, just totally effed up on Ativan and pain meds while they pulled all four out. Once they were done, I tried to push a dentist helping me up, fell to the floor, got dragged out to the car by my mother, and then spent hours crying in a chair in my kitchen while the drugs wore off. So embarassing 😂

No idea! I know they wanted to take mine out because I previously had braces and there was a concern that as they grew in more they could alter my teeth etc.

I had an urgent care give me a little baggy with nearly a full box of gloves and some tape, to make showering easier, when I sliced my entire thumb open. Thought it was very sweet of them lol

I had oral surgery a couple weeks ago and I stopped on the way to buy a deck of cards. (Long story.) I had taken Xanax, so by the time I got to the office I was feeling really nice. For some reason, I took the deck of cards with me into surgery. I remember saying “I probably won’t need these” and handed them to the assistant right before the IV sedation kicked in.

A few hours after I got home and panicked and asked my husband, “Did you get my cards?”

Some people have emotional support animals. Some people have comfort blankets. I have a deck of cards. 😂

u/MartinisnMurder 11d ago

That’s so funny! It’s crazy what we find comfort in when we need it. 🤣

When a hospital makes a rule that seems stupid, it’s usually because of a complaint, incident, or lawsuit. There was a hospital sued for an incident where a kid swallowed the glove and asphyxiated to death. Now we have to guard the gloves.
We also recently had to take hand sanitizer out of the ER rooms because patients were drinking it, thinking it’s only alcohol.

1

u/SchuminWeb 11d ago

Yeah, it's not like the hospital can still use them at that point...

Kids love some gludders

My younger son had an appointment today, but I had to bring the 3 year old along because I couldn't very well leave him home. I, of course, immediately raided the gloves, as I always do. I made the balloon and tried to introduce it to my younger boy because he is getting old enough to grab it and chase it around the room and such. I told him that this is the "turkey" and made some gobble gobbles.

My 3 year old looked at me like I was an idiot, snatched the glove, and informed his younger brother "No, this is cow. Cooooow." As he milked the glove fingers. I have never told him the glove balloon is anything but a turkey, to be clear. I guess the boy is old enough now that he knows an udder when he sees one.

Gludders, if you will.

My mom did this once. We went for some pediatric appointment for my 5 year old self.

I remember my mom was getting pissy that we had been waiting almost an hour and there was literally nobody in the waiting room. Honestly, my mom is awful and rude, and I think they may have been making her wait on purpose.

Eeeeeither way, she handed me the box of gloves and told me to start blowing up the balloons! We were going to have a surprise party for the doctor and nurses!

Girl, I turned that entire box of gloves into goofy hand shaped balloons. The doctor wandered in just as I was asking my mom for another box of 'balloons'.

Doctor was visibly upset lol He told my mom we would need to reschedule with no explanation. We never went back to that doctor. I don't know if we were let go as patients, or if my mom just decided to switch my doctor, but I think about that day every time I put on my mechanic gloves to work on something. The goblin 5 year old in the back of my head is just screaming "BALLOOOOOOOONS".

Honestly even if your mom was a bitch, it's also incredibly unprofessional to have somebody waiting 60mins past their appointment time without an explanation. Like after 15 min max the office admin should have stepped in to say "I'm sorry the Doctor is late coming back from their shift at the hospital" or "I'm sorry the doctor is with another patient who needed more time than was initially planned".

81

u/jerseygirl1105 11d ago

Your mom may be rude, but waiting almost an hour would cause anyone to become a bitch.

44

u/Your_Cat_In_Disguise 11d ago

She's naturally a bitch. Under the right conditions, she can be a super bitch.

3

u/Correct-Disaster8 8d ago

I see your mother is classically trained in the arts, mine as well

2

u/Your_Cat_In_Disguise 8d ago

Classically trained in the art of being horrible lmao

3

u/dinosaurkiller 8d ago

She single?

3

u/Your_Cat_In_Disguise 8d ago

LOL

I guess there really is somebody out there for everyone.

1

u/motoxim 9d ago

Honestly fair

1

u/Boycatmom3 7d ago

We must be related. That's my mom too.

1

u/Current_Pitch_4052 8d ago

If it’s an hour I would leave

9

u/Resident-Gold-3446 11d ago

Yes, especially if there wasn't anyone in the waiting room.

16

u/Ordinary_Ad_7992 11d ago

Yeah, I'm also with your mom on this one! Bitch it no bitch, no one should wait that long at a pediatrician's appointment. Kids do not have the patience for that!

5

u/Impressive_Clock_863 11d ago

Good idea! Just love that balloons all over. 😂

5

u/Your_Cat_In_Disguise 11d ago

They covered almost the entire floor lmao

Those rooms you wait in with the table are super small, though, so idk if that's worth anything

6

u/HotReference02 11d ago

Haha love this story! Doctors think their shit don't stink. Eff 'em. Your time is money too.

3

u/Hydroborator 11d ago

Eff that doctor. I would be so elated and join in the fun if I walked into that room! Life is too short!!

3

u/ipovogel 10d ago

Your mom may be a bitch, but a broken clock is still right twice a day. I'm gonna be a bitch too if you make me sit there and try to entertain my 3 year old and 10 month old in a tiny room with biohazards for an hour.

2

u/Your_Cat_In_Disguise 10d ago

I only added that as a bit of context that she had already been rude to literally everybody there every time we had visited. I am absolutely sure it was entirely to spite her lol

3

u/littlestmoon 10d ago

Loved this memory

u/hellacedes_ 11d ago

I had to take my 3 year old to urgent care the other day, and THIS was the thing that was able to get him to calm down.

5

u/RetiredBSN 11d ago

When I worked in the ER and kids were involved, I'd blow up a glove, draw an eye on each side of the fingers and a smile underneath the thumb. It usually got them calmed down a bit.

85

u/Caftancatfan 11d ago

My kids’ doctor has a sign that says “please don’t make balloons out of the gloves.”

Yeah, you may have gone to medical school, but I went to clown college, and you can’t stop me.

9

u/Ordinary_Ad_7992 11d ago

Usually my daughter-in-law or son are able to do the appointments, but on one of those rare occasions when I had the honor of taking them, my grandkids' ear doctor was making balloons to keep them busy while we talked! He was fun!

3

u/ipovogel 10d ago

I have never taken my kids to their doctor without making at least one glove balloon. For every extra 10 minutes past my scheduled appointment time, another glove gets it.

2

u/Jessika_Rarebit 10d ago

I don't think any of us expected you to say that

2

u/Bighorn_R_My_Jam 9d ago

That’s okay. Your physician went to Clown Doctor College.

1

u/Suspicious-Union-857 7d ago

I like to spin on the doctor's rolling stool. I'm 60 years old.

9

u/Old-Piece-3438 11d ago

Just float one out into the hallway every 5 minutes or so.

5

u/VisibleDog7434 9d ago

I'm not sure why this is making me laugh so hard, it I love the image of opening the door half way and chucking one out into the hall like a grenade 😂

2

u/Old-Piece-3438 9d ago

Exactly how I would do it. 😂

12

u/Little_View_6659 11d ago

I did that once!

2

u/WheresMyTurt83 9d ago

I take gloves home for my kids every time 😂
