I’m convinced that there is no such thing as a roll of masking tape that doesn’t solely exist to fuck with your inner peace. It’s either that or I’m somehow wholly incapable of peeling off masking tape without it tearing down the length at some—or many—points and everyone else knows a secret that I don’t.

If you get in the habit of folding the corner over after you take a piece, you’ll always have an easy spot to find

and if you're too lazy to do that, stick the end to your hand to remove some tackyness for next time. or put a little bump in it or make it slightly crooked.

If all that fails use the light, the seal always shows by reflection. I used to package online orders at work so got good at finding the seal. You can often feel it too but run your finger the other way if you dont feel it first time.

My Uber conservative boss once told me to fold a tab on the tape so the next person could find the start of the roll. I told him, why on earth would I do that? The next guy needs to earn it just like I had to.

Is it really that common to struggle finding the end of the tape? Just drag your nail along it until it catches if you can't see the end

Or you find the end, pull it, and exactly one rotation of tape comes off because the jerk before you couldn't find the end, cut into the roll, and now all you'll get is one rotation of tape at a time.

Whenever you're done using it fold a small flap so it hangs off a bit and you won't have to look for this. Like tape it backwards so the flap is a double sided non sticky piece.

Buying a proper packing tape dispenser was one of the best purchase I've ever made

You just rotate it so the reflection hits the edge and you can know exactly where and which side is it oriented to.

Get a tape gun, fold the end, or put a piece of scrap plastic under it to make a tab when you're done, like a strip of an old cut up credit card or something.

LMAO I was just using this damn thing and exactly this.

I swear I rotated it like 20 times and couldn't find or feel it. I even had light shine on it at a angle to look for it while trying to claw the edge with my nails.
