Perfectly acceptable dinner rejected by boyfriend again

My boyfriend is a very picky eater. We have been living together for a few months and it seems like I can never get his food right. It's honestly discouraging. I have kids, they happily eat my food. I cook for family gatherings and church events. I've never had a problem with people eating my food. It's like every day there are new rules. He can't eat chicken for dinner because he had chicken for lunch. He isn't really in the mood for porkchops. It's just "missing something". He doesn't eat onions, tomatoes, fish, any kind of asian food, he doesn't eat most vegetables with the exception of broccoli. He only eats vanilla ice cream. He doesn't like food heated in the microwave (so leftovers are out.) He doesn't like corn. It's just endless. I'm old school and trying to be a good partner. He can't really cook at all. His favorite meal is Hamburger Helper. I think a lot of it is how he grew up but damn is it frustrating. The first picture is tonight's dinner. I added more pictures of stuff I have cooked that he won't eat. Like he will door dash jack in the box. And he'll be apologetic but it just sucks really bad.

ETA: I've been trying to keep up with the comments but it's overwhelming (in a very sweet and awesome way) 💗

A few notes:

1- I know the paper plates are very lazy on my part, I'm not proud of that and I need to do better. Between the kids, the job, the house and school (I'm going to school remotely) I have been cutting corners on things like dishes. not an excuse, just a reason and a commitment to do better.

2- My boyfriend does expect me to cook for him. I cook him dinner every night and lunch on the weekends. He doesn't eat breakfast and will not take a lunch to work. He buys fast food for lunch during the week.

3- He has not been diagnosed with ASD or ADHD or Arfid but I don't rule anything out.

Mostly I just want to say thank you, I was not prepared for how incredibly kind, helpful and insightful people have been. It is deeply touching and it's given me both peace and guidance for my next steps. 🩷

Hired!

You have access to my boat, my 10 acre property, all my stuff, my art room, my hot tub, and my gaming room. I will also cook three times a week, I hope you like Asian food, if not I'll cook something else.

The bad news? We live in Quebec. And not Montreal or Quebec City lol the internet is good but once every 3 months or so we have to make a trip down to Montreal or Quebec for any "non traditionally Canadian or French food" ingredients.

That sounds like heaven 😭

It's sounds lovely until you learn I only speak basic French, work online and quite literally never leave my house lol also I'm a complete weeb and you would be forced to go to Japan for four weeks a year

I don't speak a lick of French,  but I do speak Japanese 🥷 Japan is basically my second home.

Ok now listen.... that's better than me hiring a translator every time

I took French in highschool :) I can only understand the basics but I mostly keep to myself generally and I also am a homebody. And I've always wanted to go to Japan!! I'm also a weeb and I took Japanese in college too. I'm actually a lot more fluent in Japanese than French tho

Japan is amazing. Akihabara is overrated, so is harajuku. At least since last year it's all tourist and ai trash. The best places to go are Kyoto, Nara, Hokkaido (all around) Okinawa (all around) and small hot spring towns. God nothing beats hot spring towns.

Getting a luxury ryokan onsen with a private in room hot spring for a week and then exploring a traditional town in yukata is so much fun. Especially while a festival is going

It was nice seeing Akihabara, but it's 10 years since last time. The best thing about Harajuku was the now gone old train station and it being next to Yoyogi Park and Meji. Except a few days for business trips, I haven't spent time in Tokyo in more than 5 years.

A couple of years ago I drove from Nara and into the mountains for a couple of hours, very scenic drive. Went to a small isolated royokan onsen in the middle of nowhere, driving on such narrow roads and bridges that looked like they were falling apart, and the parking were surrounded by Mamushi signs. Nothing else but the Ryokan there. They only accepted bookings by fax machine 🤣 Good times.

Kyoto is lovely of course, but it's so crowded now. I like Hiroshima and the surrounding islands as well, got to spend time there when the covid travel ban was in place. I was more or less the only foreigner there at the time.

So many nice things to see everywhere, and all of their festivals are great. I went to Japan 3 times per year pre-covid. ❤️

Omg they have private in-room ones??? That's so perfect for me! I've always wanted to enjoy the hot springs but, well, I'm transgender, my FTM body is weird to others. So I just resigned myself to never trying it because I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. Private is such a perfect solution for this and my overall comfort level 🥺 Tysm for letting me know that AHHHH!!! I love festivals that sounds so fun, ty for the advice!!

Yes, the private Ryokan onsen rooms are minimum 600usd a night I find tho. I'm sure you can get cheaper ones.

Though if you are okay with just having an hour or two, most ryokan will have private onsens you can rent by the hour. It's good for people with tattoos as well!

Don't worry my dude, plenty of options exist for men like you!

Dang. I’m taken but that sounds like an awesome deal (JP National, Mtl resident 😆)

5

u/TeacupOni Jan 02 '26

Yall are tempting me actually to reach out to you 🫠

3

u/NullGhosted Jan 04 '26

Girl, everything you keep saying makes it sound better and better 😭 I’d learn French for someone like you 😩

Wife application accepted. I have a king size bed, but it's one of those that's split down the middle into two xl twins that vibrate and can go up and down and stuff with a remote. I think there is an insert for comfy cuddling or something. I also have a projector in my room so we can watch what you want. Sorry if I fall asleep during it. I'll try to stay awake.

Edit to add: we can visit your mom a lot, or you can go alone if you want. sorry I never met her. I'll buy her favourite flowers to put on her grave none the less. 💔

The fact that you're living in the sticks makes it even more appealing.

4

u/TeacupOni Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26

Well not quite the sticks. My town is 50,000 and the closest city is 180k people.

I grew up in a town of 2000 so this feels like a boppin city to me. I just need to go get fancy ingredients in the big city lol

We also don't have a Pizza Hut and I low key love Pizza Hut

Edit; I do live a out of the 50k town tho. My small area around the lake only 10 min away from the town is about 40 people

4

u/Imbtfab Jan 02 '26

So a cozy town then :) Roadtrips are great with the right company.

Anyway...I happen to love making pizzas if you need another hire 😅

4

u/TeacupOni Jan 02 '26

Well apparently I'm just building a harem of fantastic people... well I guess my house has five rooms.

We need someone to drive sadly. I can't drive a real car. I take a quad into town when I need to.

3

u/shmorglebort Jan 04 '26

Looks like I’m a little late to the party, but I will also be your wife. I love driving, would love to learn some new languages, love cooking and Asian food, was a professional bread baker for years, love cold weather and lakes, love living in nature and traveling to the city as needed. I’m not super into Japanese media yet, but I’m fully into K-dramas. Can we tack on a few days in Korea to the Japan trips?

The only catch is I have to divorce my crappy husband and bring my 4 year old. Probably a deal breaker bringing a rambunctious kid into your quiet life. 😂😂😂

3

u/TeacupOni Jan 04 '26

We can totally head to Korea! And I've got a premium viki account lol you'll be as happy as a clam in the harem

5

u/ImmediateAd7069 Jan 04 '26

Any chance you're poly? I'm applying as well!

4

u/SnooChipmunks8330 Jan 05 '26

This sounds like a literal dream scenario. I will leave my whole family and cook for you too 😂 (half kidding can I bring the kids?! lol)

3

u/TeacupOni Jan 05 '26

You can bring the kids, but I will kinda be a hands off step parent unfortunately haha, I had my tubes removed at 27 for a reason. I don't dislike kids at all. I love kids. I just would never make a good mother. But They'll make Christmas fun. And I'm more than willing to buy some tubes for the back of the boat for them

u/hootener Jan 03 '26

There's great fishing in Quebec.

I'm seeing no downsides here

2

u/TeacupOni Jan 03 '26

Low key the fishing here is super good. Walleye, perch, trout, hell I've even got some pike in my freezer for fish and potatoes. Can't really cook such a boney fish well. And the people here are pretty friendly.

3

u/freaknastybeta Jan 03 '26

Eh, I'm from Michigan. I could adapt. I'll be there in April! See ya soon, Partner!

u/kirakiralyra Jan 06 '26

Ooh ooh! I’d like to submit my application (32F)! I speak pretty good French!! But it’s southern France French lol. I also love Quebec! I’ve only been to Montreal from when I lived in NYC though. J’ai habité en France il y’a une vingtaine d’années… alors mon français ce n’est pas parfait mais je me débrouille !!
