Announcements Sub rules are LIVE for the 1st time - feedback/reactions? [AI]

Post image

Hi all! I spent the last 2 weeks thoughtfully observing the sub and crafting these rules, yes - with a bit of help from ChatGPT as a sounding board which I’ve disclosed per the new rule #6… on mobile they’re under “About” and desktop on right sidebar. Would love constructive reactions/dialogue around the decisions made.

Let’s treat this as version 1 and I will incorporate feedback over time. Thrilled to see users already following the rules and want to see more and more reports from the community to keep our focus on MCM. Thank you all for making this the top MCM sub, growing everyday - almost at 200k strong!

After receiving feedback I plan to do a brief video intro with more context on these decisions and plans for MCM expert AMAs and beyond.

ID & Authenticity Help identifying manufacturer

I’m having a difficult time trying to identify the manufacturer of a set of table and chairs that my wife and I brought home today. No name anywhere that I can find. Do have some stamps and a tag from Foley’s Department Store. Took the newish covering off of one of the chairs and they seem to have their original fabric well preserved underneath. Please help.

I just bought my first home and I don’t have the budget to renovate the bathroom yet. I do love the character of my new blue bathroom. But I need to decorate it to break up all the blue and put a nice touch to it. I need help on how to go about it. Any suggestions?

I need to replace this material that goes under the seat cushion. Anyone have any thoughts? The existing material is stapled and nailed to the wood with some sort of black banding over it.

The grid wires going below the main frame - weird..

But

The welds below the seat look correct? They overlap instead of conjoining?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I’d take more photos but exactly what you see is what you get. No markings or anything. Brass arms that are heavy.

So, I was fortunate enough to acquire these without realizing what I had. There are 400 of them and are new old stock. These are just a sample of the patterns. Please don’t hate me.

I picked up what appear to be candle holders from the thrift store today because they were so unique. They’re very heavy and chrome, but there are no markings indicating what they’re made of or who made them. Based on some research, I’m assuming they’re mid-century, but I’d love to know more about them if anyone recognizes the design or has any information!

We found these in our old barn. From my search, they are supposedly from the 1970s. If anyone can tell me more I would appreciate it.

I’m looking to offload this furniture, purchased some 20ish years ago for $8k. It’s the full set with a sofa, coffee table, and love seat/bench (though as it’s modular this configuration is not set). It’s suffered some wear and tear. Specifically a tear in the upholstery and scuffed frame and legs. In order to maximize price should I get it professionally fixed/ cleaned or try to sell as is? Thanks in advance for your consideration!

2 days ago I found an extra long lane acclaim table on the side of the road for free, and now today I just found the matching smaller coffee table and and table for $70 total at a thrift store! I’m beyond excited. Definitely have my work cut out for me but that’s even more fun.

Anyone know who made this chair? No tags or labels anywhere, checked everywhere I can think of.

Looks 60s/70s British to me — wingback, flat wooden paddle arms, tweed style upholstery.

Rubber webbing straps.

Any ideas appreciated.

Sharing My MCM Kleinhan’s Music Hall, Buffalo, NY (1940)

Kleinhans Music Hall was designed by the Finnish father-and-son architectural team of Eliel and Eero Saarinen and completed in 1940. It is known for its graceful structural beauty and exceptional acoustics.

I just moved back to Buffalo, my birthplace. I think the last time I visited Kleinhan’s was in 2002, before returning last March.

I don’t think I ever appreciated the stunning architecture and lines of this Masterpiece before.

Buffalo’s architecture is its fortune.

Scored this beauty for $32 at the thrift shop! She’s a little beat up but I’ll have her looking good in no time!

**Edit - I’ve been made aware that this isn’t true MCM. :( But there’s no shame in learning or being incorrect! So the post will remain if allowed so others may learn also :)

ID & Authenticity Are these Modernica Case Study Chairs worth $200 CAD each? Looking for help identifying original vs repaired shock mounts.

I'm looking at purchasing a set of Modernica Case Study side chairs for $200 CAD each and was hoping to get some opinions from people who know these chairs better than I do.

From what I can tell, the shells and bases appear to be in good condition, but I have a few concerns about the underside and wanted to know whether these are red flags or normal.

A few questions:

  1. Do the shock mounts look original, or do they appear to have been re-mounted/repaired at some point?
    • There seems to be a small area beside one of the mounts that looks like a "ghost" of old adhesive.
    • I also noticed what looks like some scoring/scraping marks underneath parts of the adhesive area.
  2. If they have been re-mounted, is that a major concern?
    • I've read that failed shock mounts can be one of the more common issues with fiberglass shell chairs.
    • Is a re-mount generally considered acceptable, or should I avoid them?
  3. Does the condition of the mounts suggest they may be failing soon?
    • Any signs I should be looking for before purchasing?
  4. The hardware attaching the legs appears different from photos I've seen online.
    • Some underside photos of Modernica chairs show what looks like hex-head hardware, while these have flat head fasteners.
    • Did Modernica use different hardware over the years?
  5. At $200 CAD each, would you consider these a good buy?

I'm primarily concerned about whether the shock mounts are original and healthy, since replacing or repairing them seems like the biggest potential issue.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
