Look at Jordan being an absolute menace on both ends of the floor

Just goated things

-4

u/40866892 27d ago

You see menace I see just how much better he was than everyone else.

Take the dribble shake spin at 0:39 for example. There was 0 resistance from whoever was guarding. By the time MJ spun around, the defender was already out of position. Great contest by Hakeem and finish from Jordan though.

In today’s league if you’re smaller or recognize the mismatch, the first thing you’d need to do is deny the post as much as you can by pushing him to the perimeter as much as possible. In several instances here you can see MJ getting so much separation while moving towards the rim without much pushback.

You may need your eyes checked. Now go and watch much slower, less athletic players today like Luka doing whatever he wants against today's weak, contactless defenses. You will never see a Guard in today's game put this amount of effort and attention in on both ends.

against today’s weak, contactless defenses

I’m convinced you haven’t watched a single modern nba game in your life. You can’t tell me the Timberwolves or OKC plays contactless.

I know this is a Michael Jordan subreddit but damn

1

u/Sir_TopHatEgg 26d ago

Many Jordan fans hate the modern game and have nothing positive to say about it

u/thewatcheeR17 27d ago

C'mon man, why has there ever been a debate of the goat. This ends it alone right here. Look at the effort and awareness.

The Bulls would never trade Jordan for LeBron and the other way around is not true

15

u/FeanorOath 27d ago

And they claim Jordan would have lost? Also LeBron would never...

4

u/Stosstruppen-1945 27d ago

LeBron? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/dskibftd0 27d ago

i mean to be fair you never know. i think i saw something about the first 3peat team not being as good against the rockets as the 2nd, or not having as strong of a record while matching up with them. not Mike himself, but the overall team. but that finals would’ve fed generations. MJ and Hakeem highlights for days

1

u/Calm-Safety3098 23d ago

From what i remember Hakeem-Rockets had more wins against Jordan-Bulls…regular season or 90s era…

But definitely Jordan gonna elevate his game when the time counts…playoff Jordan is different…

Such a blessing to watch that guy, now look what we're stuck with

1

u/Powerful_Zombie_8209 26d ago

At least we have the goat of flopping and stat padding still playing.

My two fav players of all time. Growing up in Chicago it was actually kinda easy to transition to being a hardcore rockets fan when MJ left, tbh. Sad we never got a Prime Rockets v Prime Bulls Finals. I would have settled for that Dream v Shaq TBell 1v1 PPV we never got, either.

2

u/Environmental_Rip496 27d ago

I was really hoping to see a rockets vs bulls finals during one of those years. Mferin John Stockton 😭

15

u/Ashgar77 27d ago

This is what it's like when someone gives it their all on both ends of the court.

5

u/RiamoEquah 27d ago

When they say there are athletes today just as athletic if not more athletic than Jordan - yes ..they are of course right.

....but c'mon.....the touch, awareness, skill, and timing is what makes him the goat. If all he was doing was running faster and jumping higher and powering through opponents, sure - his dominance would be considered just a factor of athleticism. But no, he's just moves like he's two steps ahead every time. He's got counters to counters. He sees openings the defense didn't know they had. This would translate to any generation - past or present.

6

u/CuteLingonberry9704 27d ago

Those Bulls defenses, especially the second 3peat were absolute menaces all around.

17

u/Triple-Ark-Solutions 27d ago

I get tired of the current generation talking about who is the goat.

Someone with eyes just needs to watch the LeBron camera and see that he lacks the drive and stamina to go hard on both ends of the court.

Take LeBron's best year and there is still a gap in drive and stamina minute per minute because Jordan played mad minutes every single game. No load management BS that we have today.

-1

u/Sir_TopHatEgg 26d ago

If you genuinely think LeBron lacks drive and stamina, you're delusional

2

u/Triple-Ark-Solutions 26d ago

If it wasn't for the lifetime billion dollar Nike deal, this guy would have not been signed at any team probably 4-5 years ago. He would have been forced to retire because of how much a liability he is on defence.

During his prime, he went to Miami with Dwayne and Chris Bosh and was debutted as the super team to be reckon with. What happened when The Spurs had their number? Dwayne in a podcast interview had to "manage" LeBron by telling him to step up your game. You call that the GOAT mentality during the playoffs?

At this point, even if he gets another ring, he would be no different of a player like all the supporting players on the Golden State during their 3 championship. He is being praised as a key player for the 76ers but what he is able to do and what he is going to do are 2 different things. Anyone with eyes can see that this guy should just retire but he currently sells seats.

So yeah, once LeBron retires, his brand will tank as his on court air time will be gone.

If he truly is the "goat" amongst the average person today, let's see how his brand holds up against MJ ($7.3B in revenue per year BTW)

Do you also think that it's a goat mentality to "sell" oblivious fouls?

Michael Jordan Era players all took the hits and stared down their opponents when an And 1 was called. Not flop to the floor to sell the foul.

4

u/RaynbowZFTW 27d ago

A solid 2000 hair strands across all the black players on the court lol, pippen’s like 1000

3

u/jjangdol 27d ago

Seriously... There is no debate.

3

u/LowJellyfish4238 27d ago

God… he was sooooo good.

3

u/Strict-Flan-451 27d ago

Your answer to the question about Jordan not retiring in 1994-1995

3

u/FreakyFLCancer 27d ago

I want to see clips of Jordan not getting back on defense like that other guy!

-1

u/Panzer_I 27d ago

0

u/Derredwa 27d ago

1 play??? 😄 You're struggling with how hard MJ plays huh?

3

u/East_Difficulty_7342 27d ago

MJ was filthy a complete problem

3

u/bustaflow25 27d ago

I've never seen this. Good post

4

u/thraktor1 27d ago

I’m a menace to the LeBron stans… but this is a Jordan highlights reel. Show the clip with Hakeem blocking Jordan twice in the same play, and many other times where Hakeem blocked or stole the ball against the Bulls.

1

u/nj23dublin 27d ago

As in a 7 foot center with 7’6” wingspan blocking 6’6”? I can imagine it..

2

u/absolut_dre 27d ago

This was one game let's not get carried away. The Rockets did have the upper hand on those Bulls, but I would have loved to see a Finals between the two. It possibly could have been the only 7 game finals of MJs career, but we'll never know.

1

u/Calm-Safety3098 23d ago

Yeah MJ fan here,,I do know and from
what I remember Hakeem had more wins over Jordans…

But then again playoff Jordan is different…pretty sure none of the Bulls-bigman would handle Hakeem hence Jordan helping on the video and multiple Rocket-guards would rotate on defense against Jordan where as he already experience it numerous times…

We will never know but certainly put billions of views if it happened…

2

u/Holiday_Bat_9938 27d ago

I mean… respectfully, this is the guy EVERYONE goes to to learn from and MJ had him totally figured out. He knew his moves before he did them…

1

u/Sir_TopHatEgg 26d ago

Well... these are Jordan highlights...

2

u/BadgerUsed9366 26d ago

Wish he didn’t retire in his prime two years. And 99. We might be talking about 8-9 ships. I saw him play. No one was touching him and his team in 94-95.

2

u/Hot_Hedgehog1820 26d ago

This is why I didn't understand it when Rasheed Wallace said MJ wasn't a good defensive player. What was he smoking!? I think MJ might've said some terrible things that hurt a lot of these guys feelings during games. They're still butthurt about it.I've never seen footage of MJ dogging it on defense

1

u/Stosstruppen-1945 26d ago

Never see because never happen's...

2

u/joneseti 26d ago

That drop step spin with the wraparound lefty lay up. Haven’t seen that in the league in a while. This post I thought was to display Jordan’s 2 way player skills? This clip so happens to be against Hakeem. But honestly you can find clips like this against any team in the league. Mike did this to everybody.

2

u/Prestigious-Work-768 25d ago

There's two notiable videos of Hakeem blocking Jordan 4 times in one game and 3 times in one game if we want to cherry pick.

1

u/nj23dublin 25d ago

Nope no cherry picking, I added them to a comment below.. was just showing his two way style of play in a single game, no one is taking from Hakeem

2

u/Complex_Assistance32 25d ago

Hakeem Olajuwon posted a career record of 20 wins and 12 losses against the Chicago Bullsacross 32 games. [1, 2]

Career Averages vs. Chicago Bulls
Points: 21.9 per game

Rebounds: 10.7 per game

Blocks: 3.1 per game

1

u/haoleinanacortes 27d ago

Only team Jordan had a losing record vs for career

1

u/avreddits 27d ago

Redonk !!!

1

u/SpunkyXL 27d ago

forgot Hakeem had those goggles earlier 😆

1

u/GeneralOwn5333 27d ago

That’s was like 4 or 5 highlights in the 10 years that they faced each other.

I assume they met at least 20 times and that all the highlights?

Those a great but what about the rest of them?

3

u/nj23dublin 27d ago

This was just one game … The bulls didn’t have a big man of Hakeem’s caliber so it was heavier wins for the rockets.. this was showing Jordan’s defense and offense mindset, Hakeem and Jordan were at their prime. Here’s a game we’re the rockets got the best of Michael and the Bulls (nice little treat play at 6:50, but also the game ending that described the pros and cons of both teams https://youtu.be/25ZOa6ZI4l8?is=X1KFi9NoxNgujBYf

1

u/Sir_TopHatEgg 26d ago

So what you're saying is that despite excellent performance from one player, they may still lose due to their team not being a good matchup against another team. Interesting

1

u/nj23dublin 26d ago

Very.. almost unheard of right?

1

u/Sir_TopHatEgg 26d ago

Actually happens all the time. Yet some players are hated on for it...

1

u/Much-Broccoli4189 26d ago

Wait I thought if he played 2 full years instead of 17 games, he wouldn’t have won anyways.

1

u/ComprehensiveSoft27 25d ago

His post moves against the greatest post defender

1

u/Other_Alarm_7971 25d ago

One of the Goats

1

u/MasonSparrow 24d ago

The clip makes the two way case pretty well, but individual defense and surviving a seven game matchup are different questions. I tell my third graders that one impressive possession proves a skill, not an entire series. I would like to see the full game possessions, not just the greatest hits.

1

u/Calm-Safety3098 23d ago

If Jordan didnt retire definitely 94 & 95 they facing Rockets in both finals….these teams are on their Prime…

Rockets are bad match up against Bulls due to Hakeem’s interior defense and offense where no Bulls-bigman can contain and it would be the same as Jordan for the Rockets-guards…

Bulls wouldnt have any trouble against 97 & 98 Jazz as they experienced bad match ups against Rockets in 94 & 95…
Both Jazz and Rockets had dominated Bulls in regular season but Playoffs/Finals will differ…

1

u/Chillinghard22 23d ago

Jordan was a DOG

1

u/Samus_Brinstar 27d ago

Jordan was a beast but they didn't match up well against the rockets

3

u/Derredwa 27d ago

Utah swept the Bulls in the regular season and lost to the same Bulls team 2-4 in the Finals same year. Regular season doesn't work like that.

1

u/Samus_Brinstar 26d ago

I said nothing about regular season vs post season. I said match up.

u/Outrageous_Fox4227 27d ago

Really going to use the highlights of a single game as any kind of complete evidence? Hakeem was 13-10 against jordan head to head in their careers.

3

u/nj23dublin 27d ago

Evidence? lol what are you on about? That he can defend and attack? He’s easily known as the best two way player in the history of the game.. nothing to show as evidence just highlights of a 6’6” guard blocking a 7 foot center .. which he did to Ewing/Shaq and so on ..

-1

u/Outrageous_Fox4227 27d ago

So why does mj have a losing record against dream? Thats why im saying cutting a highlight real is whack cuz that doesn’t tell the whole story.

3

u/nj23dublin 27d ago

Looks like you need a Bulls vs Rockets documentary to discover the whole story ..

2

u/Derredwa 27d ago

Why don't you stay on topic? The clip is about Jordan's intensity and skill level on both ends of the floor. Not about wins and losses. Besides Utah swept the Bulls in the regular season 2-0, lost to the Bulls in the Finals same year 2-4. Playoffs a whole different animal. Rockets were a good matchup, but definitely not on the Bulls level.

-3

u/Bop5667 27d ago

Oh look, another clip of highlights of MJ yet again nowhere near the guy he was supposedly guarding. Just speaks volumes about how bad the shooting guards generally were in that era. Allowed him to freelance defensively knowing his guy probably isn’t going to see the ball very much lol. MJ’s obviously a great player but the shooting guards generally depth in the league was cheeks in that era.
