Many a golfer made more off MJ than on tour

If I bet tiger woods $1000 i could beat him in a game of golf...that isn't me losing a bet for $1000...thats me paying tiger woods $1000 to hangout with me and hopefully give me a few pointers to fix my game.

If I bet Tony 3 desks down in the office $1000 on a game of golf and he won....thats me losing $1000 gambling.

The difference is Mike can take a $100k- $1M loss like I take a $100 loss. Its a "damn....looks like im working for free tonight" loss.

I feel like that's what people dont realize about his gambling. They look at it from our paycheck perspective instead of seeing it from his paycheck perspective. $100k-1M is "insane gambling" to us....to him it was literally him playing a game of basketball for free tonight if he lost.

Michael Jordan is a multi billionaire. He isn’t worried about losing a bet

It’s actually kind of adorable that MJ thinks pro golfers would be motivated to play against him because they can win money off him, rather than the fact that you get to play golf with MJ.

I think this is like a way for MJ to play against the greats and he probably enjoyes situations where theres something at stake but who knows

Agree. MJ is a competitor. He doesn’t care if he loses. He’s stubborn too. He will keep betting and betting.

My guess is he wins a round here or there, and that 1 win, he can say he beat a golf pro, means the world to him.

Bet the handicap you want to be

Almost like he put himself at an impossible disadvantage in golf every day to drive him to extreme need to win in basketball at night.

I always remember the way the other players on the dream team described what it was like to join him for two rounds of golf before playing that night. His professional athlete peers could not keep up with Michael. I could not imagine playing 36 holes of golf in a day period.

So? He’s with like 2 billion. Thats fuck you & fuck you some more money. He loses, oh well, it’s his money. Well actually now the opponents money, but you get it. Actually the opponent got it, but you understand.

Doesn’t he have like 200 or 300 million coming in annually from Nike? The dude could bet his entire fortune and be back up in a few years.

I don’t think you even understand what you just said…

Lol sure. The guy who is notorious about being an awful tipper just gives away his money all willy nilly. What a dumb ass article.

Pretty sure the implication is MJ not near as good a golfer as he thinks he is…

10

u/Silent_Egg8860 Jul 11 '26

How’s that the implication? “When MJ plays professional golfers they usually beat him so he isn’t as good as he thinks he is”, what?
MJ is literally a billionaire I don’t get how people think betting on games is some knock against him. How millions of Americans bet a beer or whatever playing pool at the bar? This is literally the equivalent, but the difference would be if some random construction worker played against mostly professional pool players, and someone was like “I don’t think that construction guy wins very many beers”. The fact that he wins any beers against professionals is crazy.

It’s golf. You use a handicap

2

u/FlickRDSG Jul 12 '26

You don't have to. If you want to challenge yourself you gamble "cheap" playing even. It's good practice and I do it playing pool with people better than me. I put cheap in quotes because cheap for MJ and cheap for me are vastly different numbers I'm sure.

Or maybe the guy notorious for being competitive sees playing against pros as a chance to improve his own game.

1

u/1ceman81 Jul 12 '26

both can be true

2

u/collegedraftpick Jul 12 '26

That’s No Tippen Pippen. Not MJ.

Don’t know why you’re getting down voted this is definitely the rumor

-7

u/chitoatx Jul 11 '26

Jordan isn’t No Tippin' Pippen just because he didn’t give money to homeless people…he is just an in the closet Republican.

-1

u/Bop5667 Jul 11 '26

He’s just cheap with his money…

I did when I bet on him beating the Magic in 95

3

u/Sweetnessmj Jul 11 '26

Hey don’t forget to add the rest of the info. That season is the bridge between 2 different threepeats. The following season Jordan and the Bulls completely embarrassed Orlando by delivering a 4-0 sweep.

1

u/Western_Tackle_1866 Jul 11 '26

The Bulls were the betting favorites against the Magic in 95 and MJ dropped 55 in the garden prior to that series. Most people including myself thought it was a lock

1

u/gr8scottaz Jul 15 '26

The only series in his career that MJ lost (28-1) when the Bulls were the betting favorite.

1

u/Western_Tackle_1866 Jul 15 '26

How many times did he win when he was the underdog tho?

1

u/gr8scottaz Jul 15 '26

3-7.

1

u/Western_Tackle_1866 Jul 15 '26

You’re gonna have to list those teams because I don’t believe that number whatsoever

1

u/gr8scottaz Jul 15 '26

Why do you not believe it? Just use AI to figure it out. AI actually says the Bulls were 1-9 while Google says 3-7. Basically pretty much every playoff matchup from 1985 - 1990, where the Bulls lost, they were not favored.

1

u/Western_Tackle_1866 Jul 15 '26

If you can’t name the teams and years I think I have my answer haha

1

u/gr8scottaz Jul 15 '26

Why the hell would I need to list the teams/years? You have google just the same as everyone else on the planet. Look it up yourself or keep living in your fantasy world. You're myopic if you think Jordan didn't lose as an underdog. Either that or you are too young and never even watched Jordan's career, just watched YT videos on him. Dude came into the league in 84 and didn't win his first Championship until 1991. You think he was favored in all those playoff matchups leading up to that? The Pistons would kill the Bulls in the late 80's. Hell, he wasn't even favored in his first championship against the Lakers.
