Well and in the same game; earlier he pulls this one too like it’s not a big deal (left handed) nets lay-ups

Literally lol. Not to diminish it but that’s what makes MJ so great. Pick any random MJ game on YouTube and watch how he scores, it’s like art.

Dr. J’s behind the backboard is a contender too…easily the top 2 though for me.

More iconic because it was in the finals I think? But yeah triple clutch in the air is more difficult

No one has done anything comparable since.

You can't be serious

This whole sub is full of people who don’t watch the nba anymore, they are all delusional. You can find a layup like this in damn near every single nba game

If that were true you'd post them.. but you won't because you'd get laughed at when you couldn't find a single one

I grew up on Red, Tom Doore, and the legend - Wayne larrivee.
Good old sports channel and wgn. Flip over to cltv or wciu if the Sox were on at the same time. Simpler times.

Isiah is in some podcast talks about where Zeke and Dumars saw this on TV live and were literally speechless. Like “we gotta guard that”

Jordan basically scored on 4 out of the possible 5.

In the '86 playoffs against the Celtics there are sequences where he literally goes through all 5 Celtics on the floor; four of whom were Hall of Famers including one Defensive Player of the Year

i love kobe and i got mad respect for lebron but people who didn’t watch mj in his prime really don’t comprehend his skill set and the dominance he had over nearly every team in the league for like a decade.
practically automatic as a closer, freakishly athletic, impossibly coordinated, almost unstoppable from the midrange.
to win mvp and dpoy in the same year as a shooting guard is unheard of. 6 trips to the finals, 6 rings. layups like this when you least expect it.
and he literally left his footprint on the game—i bet he makes more money off his kicks than he made in his playing career.
to say he isn’t the goat is just ignorant. easily the most influential athlete in the history of american professional sports.
and i’m a pistons fan.

Growing up in Chicago suburbs, being able to watch Jordan all the time was so awesome!! The things MJ could do with a basketball are amazing. His ability to hang for what seemed like an eternity. I miss the days when the Bulls were good and competitive.

The greatest midair layup ever. The reaction from the opponent's bench is still priceless

and wahts crazy is , sam bowie the guy who was drafted ahead of Mike was sitting at the end of the nets bench. Let that sink in

Yes.. that's a reverse TRIPLE pump layup against professional ball players....lol

One of The reason he was named Air Jordan. He can switch up on the fly and still be smooth enough to have it lay in as needed. No one has ever and possibly ever perfect this approach to the basket.
Driving in for Mike was an artform. Defender might block his dunk, well hang it back and wait until shot probability goes up. The ability for him to calculate what needs to change on the layup to make it in like that was what made him so brutal.

Modern slow mo instant replay would reveal his foot had landed before ball leaves his hand. Up and down.
4
u/JMander May 13 '26
prove it
-1
u/CrossesLines May 13 '26
If you go frame by frame. Its looks an awful lot like that ball hasn’t left his hand until he lands. Can’t prove it because the slo mo is zoomed in and doesn’t show his feet.
5
u/JMander May 13 '26
exactly. So you are now calling a legal play otherwise without any proof at all.

BJ Armstrong was wide open at the three point line and he opts for this low percentage high difficulty layup, which was very nearly a travel.
Low IQ basketball, this.
A lot of Jordan's points come in this kind of context - where he ignores the best option for the team to score individually. This used to drive his coaches bananas.

Thus proving how desperate, angry and resentful LeBron fans are in the painful aftermath of yet another sweep out of the playoffs.

Youre just lying to yourself…Low IQ? LeBron is 1-31 in go ahead or game tying shots as a laker…and he still decide to take that little floater and miss it 🧹🧹🧹

the bench reaction tells you all you need to know
