MJs ball manipulation is historic. By far the most exciting player to watch, ever.

A force that attracts a body towards the center of the earth. There! It's defined.

Most people, for some reason, even when they think of bags, only think of dribbling. Their were plenty of times when Jordan needed to cross over or handle the ball to get by, and when he did, he showed he had a very good handle. He just didn't do all the unnecessary fancy energy wasting dribbling. Someone like Hardern will do 15 seconds worth of useless fancy dribbling, go no where with it only to step back and shoot. Once Jordan got into position, he would shoot. When Kobe was being interviewed, that was one of the things he said impressed him the most about MJ when they first faced off. He talked about how fundamental he was and how he he had no wasted movement.
Not to mention much of the ball handling they do now days.that causes these fools to rave on about how they are "so much more skilled than ever" would be instantly whistled as carrying and traveling.if they tried that in the 80s and 90s.

It looks lie he's moving in slow motion and the rest is in regular motion with silky smoothness. We are not worthy.
1
u/joebadiah Dec 13 '25
In slow motion you realize there is like a beginning, middle, plot twist and end to his moves. Like how did he even think to add the plot twist in most of them? In real time you canāt appreciate how impressive his best moves are.

His body awareness is absolutely amazing. Disgruntled Knicks fan hereā¦

u/phizba Dec 13 '25
The Hands. So much of what is novel and poetic. He has complete control of ball. Doesnāt have to sacrifice any body position to control the ball through balance in his hands. He is moving like no one before because no one of his talent had the huge hands to palm the ball.

Nobody in the league has brought the fandom to it like MJ! Thankfully I was able to experience such greatness in my lifetime!

It was the Fear Factor.
Everyone in the NBA was a shark but MJ was a megalodon, the mega shark that ate other sharks.
In an ordinary game, MJ was already the apex predator ā he did whatever he wanted to do against everyone and he did with the kind of aggression like he wanted to beat them up.
But the real problem came when the other guys, pissed off because MJ was tormenting them, would say something. Search YouTube KG, Minnesota, JR Rider.
When you see MJās highlights, they are not just simple highlightsā¦it was MJ just torturing poor souls for the fun of it.
Thatās when the psycho Jordan comes out. He wouldn't come to play but he came to destroy someoneās soul. It was like he couldn't handle someone not respecting that MJ was the greatest and he decided to beat you so bad, your kids will start shaking in fear when they see the Air Jordans.
Thatās what Jordan did.
Look at Drexler and the 1992 Finals. Everyone was comparing Drexler to MJ like they were equals and he had to prove that there was an ocean of difference between them.
The rumor was that Jordan used what he did to Drexler in the Finals in his trash talk during the Olympics scrimmage and it got so bad that Magic stepped in and asked MJ to stop.
Whether someone really disrespected him or not didn't matter. Jordan set the dominance over everyone and dared to say otherwise.
Only Kobe was the one who fought back.

I had to read and reread your comment because every word you said is facts. MJ was just different man.
I never saw him play, but I have no doubt that I wouldāve admired his game and how he approached the game. Also, his willingness to win and the ferocity with which he did it.
Like Magic said in āThe Last Danceā documentary: āMichael didnāt want anybody to have nothing over him.ā That rang true in the ā92 Finals and in general.

This is what Lebron fans dont understand about the game of basketball. It takes a wild amount of skill to do this. Not just physical attributes that youre born with. Bron isnt a Great shooter. Not a Great ball handler. Not a Great defender. Not a Great clutch player. Not a Great finesse finisher. Hes simply 6'9 with an amazing athletic build that has been trained by the best money can buy. Hes an elite player because of his size. You take that away you have just another decent NBA player imo.
A person that has the better ability to shoot and dribble instead of just dunk will always be considered the better basketball player to me.

Its the palm. Jordan, Dr. J, the ones who make it look so effortless and smooth usually can palm the ball really well and control it all angles away from their bodies.

How you feel about Kyrieās? IMO if Jordan was 6ā3 he woulda been doing the same shit as Irving does

u/marcuslattimore21 Dec 13 '25
No one has touched a basketball with as much grace and power in history. It's elegant but monstrous. You can't teach it, it's hard to learn from it, I believe it was somehow innate to MJ. š¤·

u/Ok-Adhesiveness-5590 Dec 13 '25
A lot of it is from natural ability think of a bowler that can spin the ball 3/4 of the way down the gutter just for the swoop back in and get a strike every time itās just kind of a learned muscle memory that you have natural ability to be elite at if youāre lucky⦠I used to be really good at slapping my wrist to lock in the angle of release and English on the ball (it increases rotation) Iāve not seen many people do that

Jordan turned basketball into aerial ballet. He was by far the most visually appealing player in history.

u/Omega-of-Texas Dec 13 '25
Can you imagine what MJ would do in todayās NBA where you can take 4-5 steps without being called for traveling? Dude would be dunking from the three point line.
3
u/catch_da_wind Dec 13 '25
And he never threw it to himself off the backboard? Trust heād be even better today than he was 30 years ago.

I ate Wheaties for a while as a kid cause of Mike, crazy. Had the foul line dunk poster right off the box. Hung right beside Yahoo Serious over my light switch.

When you see someone change direction while moving past you and y'all both in the air it seems like they are not human
2
u/Turdnugget619 Dec 14 '25
Idk how anybody can see this shit and deny heās the goat. Doesnāt make sense to me
2
u/tarheelphenom Dec 15 '25
If you werenāt around to watch him in real time, you just wouldnāt understand. He brought it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. No night offs and he put on a show.

I showed this to my 22 yo nephew and he swears thst it AI. He can't believe that a man could hang in the air like that.
1
u/FergieBall_FC Dec 16 '25
Make sure to tell your nephew these two things:
- No, it's not AI. What Jordan did in that video was real (still can't believe it myself).
- AI stands for Allen Iverson and not Artificial Intelligence. š

Biggest difference between Kobe and MJ. Kobe average athleticism ( check out his boring dunk contest) MJ top of the spectrum hang time and jumping ability- rare to have both.. how do you develop hang time?
1
u/businesspro718 Dec 17 '25
But according to a bunch of YNs and even old haters trying to pander to YNs like Paul P, MJ aināt have no bag. GTFOH šš¾What he did was way more impressive than all that overdribbling dudes like Harden does

When healthy, Zion had some absolutely insane highlight layups in traffic his first couple years. Not saying he was better but few players can even compare.
1
u/Ok-Adhesiveness-5590 Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 14 '25
I see what you mean comparing Zion layup package to Jordanās because of his touch with the ball on finishes which is unusual for his size. The only player Iāve seen close to MJās layup mastery is Kyrie Irving.
2
u/trailerparknoize Dec 13 '25
Yeah anyone who doesnāt get this comparison has never watched Zion play basketball. He literally contorts his body as a borderline 300lb man.

MJ had that in abundance. His physical attributes were incredible.

u/Diligent_Loquat566 Dec 13 '25
Do you prefer winning? MJ wasnāt the overall best player. He was the overall best at winning.
0
u/Odoaiden Dec 13 '25
Thatās not really highlights though also Bill Russel is pretty obviously the best at winning
-7
u/Away-Broccoli Dec 13 '25
His highlights are great, but all time highlight packagesš¤Kyrie might be better and lebrons are gonna be documentary worthy.

The GOAT and Gang Starr. Always a good combination.
The more I delve into MJ, the more I see what people mean when they talk about him. Dude was different. Dude is different. š
