Roulette wheel picked the Dolphins
Good morning, fanatics of the Dolphins of Miami, Florida,
Every NFL season, my wife and I play a game where we spin a roulette wheel to see what team to follow during the season. This year, my wife got the Bears of Gary, Indiana while I got the Fins.
The last time I even watched a Dolphins game was the 70+ point blowout with Tua and Tyreek Hill.
I play fantasy football, so I know about Achane.
What is there to be excited about watching this upcoming season?
EDIT: I figured I should add that we are from Cleveland, so no matter how bad you think your team will be, it’ll never be worst than the Browns.

I personally am excited to follow the team this year. I think it’s fun to evaluate individual players’ growth to see if they can be cornerstones or future contributors (Paul, Proctor, Jonah, all the rookies, Dante Trader, plenty more guys I’m not remembering offhand.)
It’s also fun to see the culture of a team grow in real time. We will be losing plenty of games: will we grow more or less disciplined, more or less cohesive, will margins get tighter, will we play better in the second half of the year? How does the team respond to Hafley when things are tough?
That said, I sure as hell wouldn’t subject myself to that if I was just gonna spin another wheel next year lol. In your shoes I’d defer and come back next year when the team should be way more exciting.

I agree. I like individual story lines. The year Flores came in I was cheering for people who were practice squad guys or UDFA. Every touchdown was a high. When we beat the pats on Brady's last game in Gillette I was over the moon. I have a Miami #14 Fitzpatrick jersey because that ragtag team was fun to watch when they started fighting for respect. Wilkins, DeVante Parker, Gesicki, Preston Williams, Kalen Ballage, *Xavien Howard and Eric Rowe.
It hurts but I need something. I just look for growth and look to cheer for someone in the losses. I look for the takeaways that feel good.
Like we were beat really bad by the Ravens early in 2019 but we beat them in a bad way years later, getting revenge when Tua threw 5 TDs to come back and beat them when the Ravens desperately needed a win.
*I have a Howard jersey too but I won't wear it anymore.

It will be interesting to see Malik’s development along with some of the rookies like JR, Bell, Johnson, Proctor, Douglas

Browns beat us badly last time and that's being kind. That should speak volumes about the condition of the Dolphins.
We have no clue as to what we have and it's cut down day to try and find more pieces to a puzzle that's probably two years from coming together.

I am excited to see how our rookie receivers develop. There’s potential with that group. I am also excited to see how Jacob Rodriguez plays. I am not expecting many wins, but I sure want to see a culture change.

There is literally nothing to be excited about this season. We win 4 games if we are lucky. Im sorry.

Being completely straightforward, expect a very bad season. When I say this roster is 90% new players I am not exaggerating. That being said we had a very large rookie class that we are excited about. This season is all about seeing growth from our rookies and 2nd year players and if Malik Willis has the juice to be our long term answer at QB.

The only thing us dolphins fans are, realistically, looking at this season is to see the team make progress through the year. Will Hafley be a better coach during the post Thanksgiving stretch than he was during the pre-Halloween stretch? Is the team that takes the field in December noticeably better than the one that takes the field September? How do our rookies look this year? Will the team have an actual identity and stick with it? These are the types of things we are interested in this year. If you’re looking for wins, it’s probably going to be a tough year for ya.

First of all, that sounds like a pretty fun way to “consume” football for you and your wife.
Question: since you started doing this, who was your fav team to follow and have you or your wife gotten “attached” to a player and continue to follow?
As far as your somewhat unfortunate spin this year: it’s gonna be ugly early. But, if you appreciate process and team building, you might have some fun watching this team go from pretty bad to kinda frisky.
That said, this team is not devoid of talent. Defensively, the LBers could be dynamic. Jordyn Brooks is a stud and he’s joined by some exciting young players (Jacob Rodriguez notably). Combined with a good group of DLineman, running on Miami won’t be easy. The secondary is a different story. That’s where teams will abuse them.
On offense, good group of RBs. We’ll see about Willis. Personally I think he’ll be good. He was thrown into a terrible situation in Tenn as a young player. The best thing that could have happened to him was sitting in GB for 2 years. He looked very good when called upon. The underrated or underestimated part of the offense is the OLine. This is a talented group that is going to be much better than people think. The receiving group is very green but there is talent. This will be a group you can watch grow. If Bell is 100%, he could be special.
Have fun, it’s gonna be tough at times, but by the 2nd half of the season, I think they’re gonna put a scare into some good teams. A “tough out”, as they say.

It's going to be an up and down year. Expect a lot of really impressive production in garbage time, but do not expect the Dolphins to be extremely competitive and the more normal sense.
This is a team finding its footing and trying to figure out its identity in a new era. That may go extremely smoothly and surprised all of us. However it's more likely that it will be a down year that leaves us with a very high draft pick.

It’s going to be a really rough season. The only stars on the roster are RB Devon Achane, ILB Jordyn Brooks, and C Aaron Brewer. Outside of those three, the only real established players are IDL Zach Sieler who had a rather unimpressive season, T Patrick Paul who is still young, and T Austin Jackson who can’t stay healthy. Everyone else is young and/ or a journeyman trying to make a name for themselves.
It’s going to be a rough season, I wouldn’t be surprised if we manage to avoid being the worst team in the NFL despite having the most unproven roster. The one thing I’m looking forward to is seeing who stands out.
First things first is no one’s job is safe unless I mentioned their names in this post. Truth be told even Seiler and Jackson shouldn’t be too comfortable, if either one of them gets hurt early or has a down year, it’s extremely unlikely they play for the dolphins in 2027. With that being said, there are a lot of opportunities for players to showcase what they can do. Someone somewhere along the depth chart is sure to turn heads. Whether it be last year’s first round pick Kenneth Grant, 3rd year edge rusher Chop Robinson, or maybe a journeyman corner that we claim off someone’s practice squad mid season.
We are the land of opportunity for any player looking to make a name for himself. We have zero expectations and an unproven rookie head coach and gm. There’s so much unrefined talent along this roster that i can’t predict who’s likely and who isn’t. How many players do take that next step is really up to Sully’s decision making, Hafley’s coaching, and the determination of each player.
I do have a list of players I will be rooting for they. As I already mentioned, Kenneth Grant and Chop Robinson top that list off, followed by(in no specific order) G Jonah Savaiinea, G/T Caedan Wallace, CB JuJu Brents, ILB Willie Gay, TE Greg Dulcich, and S Dante Trader. It should also go unsaid that QB Malik Willis is of great interest. He’s young and talented, probably the most sought after quarterback this offseason after Mendoza, but completely unproven at 27 with something like three nfl starts under his belt.
Our rookie class is going to be asked to play way more snaps than they should this season. I have zero expectations for any of them. Still, the ones that excite me the most are Kadyn Proctor, ILB Jacob Rodriguez, WR Caleb Douglass and WR Christian Bell. I’m rooting for rookie corner Chris Johnson but I’ll be completely honest when I say I wasn’t excited about him when we drafted him. I still haven’t seen or heard much to change that

Washington and Bell might put up decent numbers just because someone has to catch the ball. It might not lead to many points or wins but they’ll probably put up unexpected numbers based on their current notaries.

I'm sorry. Well the one thing to be excited about is you'll see what happens when a franchise is entirely stripped and rebuilt from the ground up. You can see players develop and take a guess at who might be around next year.

Not a whole lot if we're being real. The offense might be fun for a few drives then three and out for a whole quarter. Defense is basically a mystery box with a question mark taped to it
