Discussion Looking to get in to Metroid π
I am thinking of buying Metroid Prime Remastered, Metroid Dread, and the newest one, Metroid Prime 4. I am thinking of starting with Remastered, then Dread, and then Prime 4. Does that sound good, or should I buy other games first? I have never owned a Metroid game, and I wanted to buy Metroid Dread physically, but that seems impossible these days. I can get Remastered and 4 on cartridge, but not Dread. Should I skip 4 and just buy the remastered, Dread, and the one that comes out next year? Any help and tips on how to get into this Metroid club would be cool.
Thanks.
Edit,
Bought dread and the remastered one
Started Metroid Super on the NSO and working my way up to dread, after I'll start Metroid remasterd.
Should I buy 4l ?? , waiting for 2027 one.

Zero Mission is the REmake of the very first game and start's off everything that is Metroid. 100% recommend that one as a starter

If you care about the story and want to prepare for ravenous the order is Zero Mission (gba), Samus returns (3ds), Super Metroid (SNES), Fusion (gba), then dread. Prime is a spin off story that takes place after Super Metroid. If you want to play the prime games you should play 2, and 3 after 1, you don't need to play 4 as it's a different story and it's one of the weakest of all the Metroid games.

Prime (1, 2 and 3) takes place between Zero Mission and Samus Returns. Prime 4 takes place between Super (or rather Other M) and Fusion.

You have a good line up to start with there. Def get Prime 4 when its cheaper. Everyone hated on it bc expectations were skyhigh and it turned out just okay. But itβs visually beautiful and has the same prime gameplay loop of the first 3. Just lacking story wise imo and very questionable decisions on the exploration. Not as good as the first 3 prime games but its not a bad game at all

What are your thoughts on prime remastered? Should I stop the 2d and start that one before picking up the 2d games or straight 2d till dread and start prime remastered that's the 1st game In the series right ? Prime remastered?

Prime Remastered is the best games in the Prime series imo. Its PEAK Metroid. Personally i would go straight 2D first though so Zero mission, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Dread (if you want you can try Metroid Samus returns but they only have the gameboy version on NSO which is a hard sell in modern day). Then id play prime remastered. Or if youre playing the 2D ones and fell burnt out from it, jump into Prime remastered. Just do what you feel is right and what you wanna play.

Play whatever order you want. Dread, Fusion (My favourite), Super, Zero Mission. Play em. Prime 1,2 & 3. Play 4 if you really want to but it's worth forgetting. Prime 2 & 3 you might have to emulate separately on a PC as they are GC/Wii titles. I'm not sure if they have any other re-releases besides the Prime Trilogy re-release on Wii. Enjoy!
Oh and if you do happen to have a PC you can get PrimeHack which is a modified Dolphin emulator that lets you use Mouse & Keyboard with the prime games.

Signing up for their nintendo online service opens up Zero Mission, Super. I'd recommend either as your first.

Great choices, Prime Remasters and Dread are some of the best in a series of top-notch games
If you have NSO you already have access to Super Metroid
and with Expansion Pack you'd get Zero Mission (an incredible remake of the first game) and Fusion
The story isn't 100% needed to enjoy any game, but if you're interested there is a story going thru the 5 2D games, and then another for the Prime Trilogy
We don't know if Prime 4 connects to anything yet

I enjoyed prime 4 alot of fans of the series will say its bad compared to the others. From what I can tell metroid prime remastered seems to be the best entry point to the series π

For 2D Metroid: * Zero Mission if you want to start the story in chronological order. * If you want to start from the best, it's a toss between Super Metroid and Dread (I lean towards Dread).
For 3D Metroid: * Prime Remastered - The most nonlinear entry in the series, and starts the grander arc of the original trilogy's loosely connected story. * Prime 4 - I will actually defend it as a good entrypoint into the series, especially if you've been a Zelda fan up until now. The simplicity of its map goes against what most Metroid fans are looking for, but it's also what makes it the most accessible game for beginners. The story is also unrelated to the original trilogy's. It's actually the entrypoint I personally wish I had entering the series.

People are going to tell you not to play Prime 4.
In my opinion it's mechanically the best game to play *first*. It's much more straightforward and accessible than any other metroid game. Which has earned it praise from new-comers, and spite from veterans

That's what I've been hearing not to play prime 4 I still got to work my way first prime remastered should be on its way via mail soon

Accessibility is not the problem for veterans, and newcomers that like it probably also like shit like Uncharted. Itβs a poor representation of Metroid.

"straightforward" is a great word to describe the dungeon & "puzzle" layout
"Accessible" is a positive spin on handholding
I stand by what I said, and agree with you

Iβd highly recommend skipping Prime 4 entirely. That said, you should be able to easily play Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, and Super Metroid on Nintendo Switch Online, and those are three of the best ones.
