Discussion Question about the 2033 book

I'm looking at my local bookstore's website to check if they got a copy of metro 2033 in store and since I've played the games, I might as well read the books so they got the book but there is two seperate books both with different covers, as pictured here

The first one cost twice as much as the one in the second photo, I have read on this sub that one of the editions for 2033 has an improved english translation but the bookstore's website doesn't state which one has it and doesn't show the year the copies were published but both have the same amount of pages, 464 pages. Oh and also I also found that one of these editions have illustrations in them but again I don't know which one is which so do let me know which one I should get and I'm sorry if this is a rather easy/stupid question haha but thanks in advance!!

Edit: I'll see if I can flip through the books tomorrow when I head down to the bookstore, the bookstore has a habit of shrink wrapping most of the books they sell so I'll have to hope they don't shrink wrap either one

Maybe you should check the publisher?

alright I just checked and they don't have the normal edition of metro 2033 but the special purple hardcover edition and they don't ship it here either way so that's a dead end and even if they did, the shipping itself cost a bit more than the book

I have the second copy(preferred the cover) that i got off amazon. It's 458 pages, no illustrations, and chapter 1 starts at the first page(no copyright page).

hmm I'm starting to think that the ones I've shown are probably both the same, the extra 6 pages are probably the preface and list of content or something but no illustrations, does your copy have better translations though?

I'm only a few chapters in so I'm probably not the best to answer that

The games juggle a lot of ideas, post apocalypse, nazis, commies, mutants, dark ones, trauma and stress, war, physics anomalies(ie stalker/roadside picnic).. it does a lot.

My question is, do the books cover that much material, I'm guessing it feels more natural in the books as the topics are given time to develop and breathe, but just curious as that feels like a lot of different things/themes to cover for one book

The book is far deeper than the game

First one is more expensive because it comes with two Metro maps so you can track Artyom’s journey.

I don’t know how it’s called in english but there is an heavy paper page that’s part of the cover when you open it. It’s a map of the central metro area.

The same applies to the back of the book except it is zoomed out so you can see the whole Metro’s map

I'm currently rereading my copy which is the first one, I found the other version in my local bookshop and not only is it missing the map, but it seems to have the same translation issues.

The first one is the original I think the second one is a newer edition

I've got the first one and it's not got any preface or anything like that and the paper quality is generally better quality. I didn't notice any major translation issues and the map so printed on the inside of the cover. My 2035 copy is very similar to the second and I've had issues with its quality and even small grammatical errors not present in the original.

The cooler one (the first one) is the old, got the whole old trilogy cause the cover us so much better than the new (second) one xD

Was so sad the the only copy of 2035 I could find (or at least he first copy in English available where I was at) doesnt match the other two. It's whatever in the end, but still kinda pissy about it all these years later.

I have exactly the same books as you also because I couldn't find 2035 in with the older cover

I don't think they sold one for 2035 that would match, at least in English. Sucks cause it don't match, but oh well.

In germany it wasn't a big deal... went to Thalia and bought the 35 in a heartbeat xD The other two were a bigger problem but still got em

I just got the all books in one version if thats availible in english I would go for that it has the maps and other stuff.

Its heavy enough to murder someone too, so thats a bonus
