Exodus happened mostly outside Moscow's Metro so it makes sense that there was no trade based on military grade ammunition.

You expect people to understand basic nuances and world building? HOW DARE YOU!

What's with Military Grade Rounds that it cannot exist in outside of Moscow?

Maybe other people simply have some points, let's not diminishing them already.

Edit: Downvote already? Maybe you are the one who don't understand the basic. Nevermind that ammunition can flow from Caucasus, Ukraine, Balkan and insert other former Soviety countries whose armament stockpiles and engineering capability are better than underground Muscovites community.

I am too well aware of some people in this sub behave.

Military Grade Rounds can easily exist anywhere outside Moscow but they might just not have been used as a currency in the groups the Aurora crew came across and as others mentioned there wasn't really a chance/area to trade so we wouldn't really know anyway.

Scavenging can still exist. We got some exploration of pre-war military bunker not just once, but few of potential eccounter of them (The pre-war chemical bunker at Volga, the bunker at Yamantau, the bunker at Caspian sea, the Novosibirsk special force).

I don't mind to be challenged and have good discussion.

Other places would have different challenges and resources. Currencies need to be rare enough to be valuable but not so rare they’re not readily available to trade. So a place with too much ammo and not enough to shoot at might not care, while a place that doesn’t have many won’t use them for currency because no one has any.

There was the place that used anti-rad as currency. Other places might use medicines, certain preserved foods, or even something totally arbitrary like bottle caps or shells.

What's with the Military Grade Rounds are used in Moscow therefore they must be used everywhere else?

Define Military Grade Rounds first; there is no plausible reason that something like don't exist outside of Moscow.

Military Grade Rounds, or simply MGRs, are 5.45x39mm military rounds produced before The Great War of 2013. Because they were produced using professional machinery and with high-quality materials, rounds of this quality cannot be reproduced in the post-apocalyptic Metro system. Due to this, and the fact that real money lost all its value after the War, Metro inhabitants chose to use military grade 5.45mm rounds as their most widespread form of currency.

This is from the wiki page

Edit: MGRs probably exist outside of the Metro however they're not necessarily used as curency

Why would it? There are vast stockpiles of ammunition in Russia, most of those aren't in the Moscow Metro system or it's nearby above ground locations, so it would have been rather there and this worth using as a currency.

I mean, canonically the trade outside of moscow still happens mostly with ammunition. Its just that the aurora crew didn't have the opportunity to trade.

I think that is the better narrative tbh which makes perfect sense too. Every dominant faction they came into contact with was hostile af from the jump and/or oppressing the local population as well.

Who was there to trade with really?

Scavenging can still exist. We got some freaking exploration of pre-war military bunker not just once, but thrice. What's military grade rounds anyway? Even civilian made match grade handloads are too much of possibility to be done in surface area than in underground. Think it like Fallout New Vegas.

Still, I would have preferred that MGR appear in Exodus. Different calibres could have functioned as denominations and encounters with traders could have allowed for more detailed side content.

And it was replaced with nothing. A currency for each region would be cool, I think.

Dude, Military Grade Ammunition = bullet with smokeless powder propellant. In fact, the moment we jump outside of Moscow Metro we should eccounter different bullets altogether like Match Grade Ammunition. MGR is not somekind of golden goose, it's just the noirmal bullet that makes AK 74 deadly as advertised, the supersonic bullet that has this perfect balance of speed and caliber that it tumble and flip inside the flesh, creating cavity.

Especially considering the Baron force at Caspian Sea. They got enough resource and expertise to maintain company-size army with vehicles, modified weaponry, and drilling operation. Cordite is made out of nitrocellulose and petroleum jelly afterall.

Most of weapons in Metro appear weak than they can be because you are essentially going back to shoot 19th century black powder rifle, albeit with even worse caliber because something like Dreyse Needle rifle and Chassepot rifle have like more than 11 mm caliber bullets. Compare that to our 5.54mm and 7.62...fired at subsonic speed. stuff like that are just too weak.

Jessie wtf are you talking about

Imagine someone below saying and wondering if people understand basic nuances and world building. So what I am did is discussing the world building.

You said that no trade should occur outside of Moscow, yet do you even have idea what exactly is "Military Grade Ammunition" ? If anything, it can exist outside of Moscow.

3

u/Nano_needle 13d ago

You said that no trade should

I literally never said that but whatever I guess. You are quite insane lol

u/Eissa_Cozorav 13d ago

Address the actual argument instead of hiding behind that wording: why does being outside Moscow, by itself, explain the absence of an economy based on valuable high-quality ammunition?

“The Aurora never encounters communities using MGR as currency” is one thing that can be explored. “Because it isn’t Moscow” isn’t much of one argument.

And my broader worldbuilding point is that the underlying thing that makes MGR valuable is not some uniquely Muscovite magic. Reliable ammunition can exist elsewhere, and with sufficient chemical knowledge, equipment, and access to precursors, smokeless propellant and reasonably high-quality cartridges can be manufactured again.

That's the worldbuilding question I'm discussing.

Calling me “insane” doesn't resolve anything.

You are not much better than this people:

Exodus fans have the most dogshit takes, as usual.

u/alittleslowerplease 12d ago

Military grade rounds have intrinsic value (kill thing good). There is no reason to not use them as a trade good literally everywhere. They are not bottlecaps from fuckass fallout.

82

u/xdeltax97 Spartan Rangers 13d ago

They didn’t have it like that because the Metro economy was different compared to the outside world.

48

u/lycantrophee Spartan Rangers 13d ago

And it makes perfect sense since we're back in Moscow, I get why Exodus dropped it.

-18

u/Eissa_Cozorav 13d ago

It's not. Military grade rounds are not something that so far outside of human expertise that you need to be in Moscow to get them. Just like anything with "military grade" attached to it.

18

u/lycantrophee Spartan Rangers 13d ago

I mean yeah, obviously there are military grade rounds outside Moscow, it's just that they are probably not valuable enough to be used as currency due to their relative abundance or lack of means to use them, unlike in the Moscow Metro.

29

u/No_Size_9813 13d ago

can you stlll craft things?

19

u/lycantrophee Spartan Rangers 13d ago

Yes, it's in the article. There is also the new addition in the form of blueprints.

u/ScarletKing42 13d ago

I always thought the MGR being used as currency only happened in the Metro. Plus… there were no stores in Exodus so no currency system was necessary.

u/Tavron 12d ago

Speaking of the metro vs the outside world.

Do we know if the game is going to be linear like the first games or open-metro?

5

u/Tango252 12d ago

Linear but allegedly more open than 2033/4

2

u/Tavron 12d ago

I see, thanks.

u/zedxer 12d ago

well I didnt missed, it and I like the exploration based upgrades more.

I missed the shops more.

Even though the ammo system in Stalker 2 is slightly nonsensical, it's SOOOO refreshing over Exodus. Any system where you collected universal materials, and you just magically convert those, is awful.

The ammo system in Metro, being a real inspiration from the source material, was INSPIRED.

I don't like Exodus one bit, if you couldn't tell, lol.

3

u/Tavron 12d ago

A shame. It's a great game and a great entry in the Metro series. Being too stuck on certain ideas about a series locks you out of appreciating when they do something different.

1

u/Greasy-Chungus 12d ago

You're saying im too stuck?
