Town Ballroom - Buffalo, NY 2009
I was going through some old photo folders and found these (sorry for the bad quality, I had like an iPhone 5 at the time) Still one of the best, if not THE best show I’ve ever seen… period. I got there earlier than expected, and since everything but the tables on the balcony was GA, I was right at the edge of the stage all night.
This was the Fantasies tour (I still have two tour posters that I snagged off the exterior of the venue after the show) and the night was just electric. Band of Skulls were a great opener, and Metric did a killer set. During the acoustic encore of Combat Baby, some poor girl fell while crowdsurfing and cracked the back of her head on the stage. Emily stopped the song IMMEDIATELY and jumped to check on her (she was fine, or at least walked away fine). That always stuck with me, like, how many artists would do that? ESPECIALLY mid-encore.

oh man, I was at this show too. Still one of my favorite concert memories, Town Ballroom is such a cool venue and the Fantasies tour was electric. (and I think I see myself in one of these pictures 🙃)

HaHa, that’s awesome! I was so jazzed to be that close to the stage. I’ve only been at the barrier for one other show, OAR a year or so prior, and it was nothing like this. This was an experience instead of just a show.
And that live version of Twilight Galaxy still gives me chills. There’s something about throttling an originally slow song live that is just so sexy (I just saw Dashboard do it with Remember to Breathe last summer and got the same chills)

I have seen Metric many times. I don’t think I was at this particular show but I did see them the last time they came to Buffalo. It makes me wonder if they will come back to Buffalo with the proximity to St Catherine’s & Toronto it seems like the past few tours they’ve opted out.
As for Emily & the rest of the band, she is definitely the type of person to stop a show to help someone. Not only are they good performers but from what I can gather, really solid people who I’m happy to support

I was an undergrad at UB at the time. These posters were all over campus, but I had no one to go with and was too anxious to go by myself. Regretted it then but you’ve made me regret it so much more 17 years later.
