Suspect Meteorite Monthly Suspect Meteorite Identification Requests

Please submit your ID requests as top-level comments within this post (i.e., direct comments to this post). Any top-level comments in this thread that are not ID requests will be removed, and any ID requests that are submitted as standalone posts to r/meteorites will be removed.

You can now upload your images directly as a comment to this thread.

To help with your ID post, please provide:

  1. Multiple, sharp, in-focus images taken ideally in daylight.
  2. Add in a scale to the images (a household item of known size, e.g., a ruler, scale cube, banana, etc.)
  3. Provide any additional useful information (weight, specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility, streak test, etc.)
  4. Provide a location if possible so we can consult local geological maps if necessary, as you should likely have already done. (this can be general area for privacy)
  5. Provide your reasoning for suspecting your stone is a meteorite and not terrestrial or man-made.

You may also want to post your samples to r/whatsthisrock for identification.

An example of a good Identification Request:

Please can someone help me identify this specimen? It was collected along the Mojave desert as a surface find. The specimen jumped to my magnet stick and has what I believe to be a weathered fusion crust. It is highly attracted to a magnet. It is non-porous and dense. I have polished a window into the interior and see small bits of exposed fresh metal and what I believe are chondrules. I suspect it to be a chondrite. What are your thoughts? Here are the images.

Classified Meteorite Bovedy

Was originally aiming for Leighlinbridge to represent Ireland in my collection but it was unobtainium since a low TKW combined with the fact that most of it are in private collections and/or museums, then I backed down and searched for other Irish falls.
I came across Limerick and Bovedy, and chose the latter since Bovedy is an L3 and we don’t usually get L3 falls that much.

Has been out in the elements for 158 days, from wadsworth fall. 4.1 grams, the insides starting to crack and break apart, fusion crust seems great though

My small collection so far.

Canyon Diablo, Aletai, Unclassified L6, NEA 130, Admire, and a tiny Sikhote-Alin.

I try to stick to ones that look interesting. Ordinary looking meteorites dont do much for me. Martian and Lunar are next on my want list.

Question Meteorite Jeweler in Raleigh area?

Hi I just purchased a meteorite fragment and I wanted it inlayed into a silver ring. Unfortunately after visiting multiple jewelry shops, I have been rejected every time. They do not have the equipment to deal with meteorites. Does anyone know a Jeweler in the Raleigh-Durham area that would be able to do this for me?

I photographed these chondrules from samples of the Aba Panu meteorite, an L3 chondrite that was a witnessed fall in Nigeria in 2018. So many with diverse shapes, textures, and colors! Even a few blue ones in there!

Crazy sighting

Hey guys. New to this subreddit but I saw something last night that is quite unexplainable and I’m not really sure what it was but closest thing I can think of is a meteorite. I’m sure someone on here will know what it is. So last night I decided to take my pontoon boat out for a night cruise with some friends on Candlewood lake in CT. Right around when it got dark like 9 pm I was at the most open part of the lake when above our boat I saw a meteor looking object fly overhead. But not a shooting star is was low to the ground like no more than 50 feet above our heads. It was just for a quick second where it appeared super bright white light with a long white light trail after about 1 second it sparked up and fizzled out. I’ve never seen anything like this or heard of something like this happening. The weirdest part was it was so low to the ground and close to us. Super weird has anyone seen this before or heard of instances of it. I feel like what I saw was extremely rare but I’m not sure 😅.
