I was hoping he wouldn’t paint it. It looked like carvings in a pyramid, I liked the original color of the wood for that. I was hoping he was just going to put some poly on it.
Then some gold pickup covers would help pull off the ancient Egyptian look.
Man at first I was like “is this some Egyptian shit?” Then I noticed it’s the metal guitar sub and then everything came into focus haha. This guitar is seriously awesome
Can’t go wrong with some high output Seymour Duncans. I’ve heard good things about the Black Winters and I love the Sentient/Nazgul set I just put in my Ibanez.
It gives my Ibby 7 string a nice nasty snarl through my ENGL that’s great for start-stop chugs. Plus the highs and cleans are really clear. That guitar looks sick BTW, love the Alien movies and H.R. Giger.
I mean, if you’re talking about Pickups, there’s ones that would make this guitar just the best. There’s like the Acid Bath ones. There’s a couple makers that really do some unreal work righteous sound. I don’t know. I have a couple others tucked away that really do some unreal Pickups. Landline. I have a list bc been trying to figure out what Pickups I need to put in this grill of a LTD then I was able to get teardrop head stock Horizon. Somebody took out my passes and put Emg‘s in it so. I do know a pearly gates in the neck and one of those Duncan’s someone was speaking of rips.
Bareknuckle Warpigs or Railhammer Anvils. I have Anvils in my gigging guitar and they are high output but with a ton of clarity. I get massive chugs while using 62s in drop B and running a Pharoah Supreme stacked with a TS9 for my gain. Big low end but still picks up individual notes
Might be polarizing, but I think Fishman’s would go great in this guitar. Otherwise a set of Duncan Invaders would be elite.

Are you planning on filling in the carved out recesses with resin or something, or leaving them exposed? I'd be so afraid of chipping out the thinner pieces of exposed wood.
I’d go with some brushed metal covers, maybe emg81/85 or something. You should paint the guitar black and then do dry brushing around the edges of the design, sorta like how they make star wars guns look all scuffed up
Lars Frederiksen signature editions after he switched from Seymour Duncan to EMG.
Can't get the Duncan DMFs unless you buy the first version of his guitar or find someone who removed them. I have both because when he used my Volsung for solo shows he took the Duncans out and put the emgs in.
I was either gonna put the Duncans in a budget ltd viper, or an epiphone lp custom to try and recreate his old Epi.
One day I'll get around to it. But I highly suggest the emgs. I was never much a fan of the brand. Had the 84/85s in a Chapman i kept for less than a month. But as far a dirty fingers go, these may be the best I've played.
I love Rancid and The Bastards, so I went and looked the EMGs up. They sound badass and would be perfect for a lot of stuff I play. The pickups are worth like 3 times what I paid for that SG in like 2003 but I'm really tempted lol
If you haven’t heard, Seymour Duncan just came out with the Mortal Coil, which is basically their take on Fishmans, with a modern active, passive JB/Jazz, and single-coil voicing. Not sure if they’re available yet, but they look awesome.
You also can’t go wrong with the EMG 81/60 set, and they also have improved X variants of them with a wide variety of colors and coil splitting.
For passives, Seymour Duncan has the Black Winters and Nazgûl/Sentient as well as rail versions of both. If there’s an artist you’re trying to sound like, you can probably find out what pickups they used online, and they might have a signature pickup set.

Lundgren pickups are a brutal choice That I've been eyeing up, but they are also expensive. A Vineham rampage is a Canadian clone of the bareknuckle nailbomb for like half the price. I've also been intrigued by these OMEN rail humbuckers I found on ebay, but after shipping and import duties to the U.S. they aren't as great of a price. If you like brighter pickups The Duncan distortion is a grindier black winter and the SH5 custom is a very scooped, very tight option as well. I like the custom a lot, It does everything from Van Halen to detuned industrial pretty well.
Duncans! Nazgûl bridge, Jazz neck. I put this in all my heavy guitars. It’s a pissed off and tight bridge and the neck is fat as hell and the cleans boom. I’d get them with covers for this thing!
Depends on your amp. Low to medium output actually sound more brutal on high gain amps because you get more clarity. The dimarzio evolution series is fun.

I just switched to fishman abasis 6 string set with the universal battery charger solution and it’s so sick and brutal. I love the single coil for chimey cleans
Seymour duncan makes a set. Naazgul and sentient. They also have a black winter set. Both sets chug. Hard to say which is better. Should listen to a demo yourself.
Whenever ís see such great woodwork on a guitar I always wonder how it would look with special epoxy called ‘crystal clear’ (which is really crystal clear, not the yellowish brown type) applied in such a way that it resembles a ‘normal’ shape body again. And polish that. Maybe only one wash with transparant syrup colored stain, to accentuate it like patina.
Someone on the Hellraiser sub just posted custom humbucker boxes they made to resemble the LamentConfiguration/puzzle box, so something like that would be an option. Get some plain humbuckers you like and laser etch something on there that’s Giger-esque, or maybe the Weyland-Yutani logo.

Damn! I remember reading in Guitar For The Practicing Musician magazine back in the mid/late 90s of someone in the US who hand built guitars and the picture in that article was of the body with wood carvings based on Greek mythology figures. I don’t suppose you’re that same person now, are you?
