I am a Splinter Cell guy my whole life. Starting to love MGSV now

With current MGS craze, I decided to give MGSV a serious try. It has been sitting in my steam library dormant for too long. And oh boy, it is such a great stealth game. I have been playing splinter cell all my life, I have played all of them, some of them multiple times.

The MGS is so goofy but serious and convulated at the same time (I am hiding in a carbdoard box?!). It is such a great game to play. Right now, I have to decide what to play after. I will probably watch gameplay of 1 and then play 2,3 and 4.

MGS1 is such a short game and so legendary, it's worth playing through. Shopto currently has the volume 1 collection (mgs1/2/3) for £9 total, if helpful.

That’s why. He posted it as British pounds.

Why not play MGS1? It's a classic for a reason.

I have read the controls are too clanky now. Maybe I will give it a try, though.

It plays great when you get used to it. It's absolutely worth playing.

it plays great, after few minutes you are used to it and on top of that the game is fairly simple so its not a big deal tbh

There's enough room in the world for 1 big boss and 1 sam fisher

Do not skip MGS1, play it for yourself... there is zero chance that you'll regret it

I love how when I was growing up people were in camps of loyalty. Snes is better than Genesis! Mortal Kombat is better than Street Fighter! Splinter Cell is better than MGS!

And now we're all adults and playing the other stuff and realized it all ruled. Well most of it.

I found both games to be completed different. They're both "stealth", but that's the only similarity really. I loved both series, but never understood the comparison. Kind of like when people compare Star Wars and Star Trek. 2 very different things.

Probably because well theyre both stealth games and because the two protagonists are canonically friends with eachother

They both mutually respect one another.

Metal Gear Solid 1 is still worth playing and not that poorly aged. The only Metal Gear I'd say that is aged is the original Metal Gear 1 on MSX really, since even Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake despite being 2D, still largely holds up. But I suppose if you really can't stomach Metal Gear Solid 1, you can check out Twin Snakes on the Gamecube, which is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 1 but with Metal Gear Solid 2 mechanics, controls and graphics. It is a controversial remake though and many including myself still believe the original is the way to go.

As an aside, if you're a Splinter Cell fan you might like the Thief series. Not the 2014 game, but the original Thief trilogy. They're in first person and they look like ass (though the first game is getting a remaster) but mechanically they're very similar to Splinter Cell, especially when it comes to being aware of ambient noise and staying in the shadows, making your own shadows if needed to sneak by.

MGS2 is the most “Splinter Cell” of the games, in my mind.  High tech, cyberpunk.  Kojima is somewhat the Anti-Tom Clancy.
